An investigation into raptor migration along the southern coast of Alaska was initiated in 1982. Spring and fall counts of migrant raptors were recorded in the Malaspina Glacier area west of Yakutat Bay. Biologists determined that there was a sizable flight of raptors following the coast of Alaska in both the spring and fall. However, the land forms at Malaspina Glacier did not concentrate the flight sufficiently for the biologists to accurately assess the magnitude of the flight. In conclusion, two areas have been located which hold promise for us. The geographic structures at both locations would concentrate birds both in the spring and fall. This is obviously a bonus, as any equipment that was flown in at considerable expense could possibly be left at the same location and used twice yearly. The Yakataga area is more accessible and would provide the potential for better accommodations. The Grand Plateau Glacier area holds the best hope for great concentration.

These ESRI shape files are of National Park Service tract and boundary data that was created by the Land Resources Division. Tracts are numbered and created by the regional cartographic staff at the Land Resources Program Centers and are associated to the Land Status Maps. This data should be used to display properties that NPS owns and properties that NPS may have some type of interest such as scenic easements or right of ways.

The Office of Fishery Assistance conducted fish surveys during the week of April 10th, 1989, on Cash Lake and Lake Redington to determine species composition and relative abundance. Fish specimens were collected with a boat mounted electrofishing unit. Water quality parameters were collected with a Hach Model FF2 Portable Chemical Kit. Results of the surveys are presented in this report.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is producing detailed geologic maps of the coastal sea floor. Bathymetric and sidescan-sonar data, originally collected by NOAA for charting purposes, provide a fundamental framework for research and management activities along this part of Block Island Sound, show the composition and terrain of the seabed, and provide information on sediment transport and benthic habitat. During June 2012, bottom photographs and surficial sediment data were acquired as part of a ground-truth reconnaissance survey of this area. Interpretations were derived from the multibeam-echosounder, sidescan-sonar, sedimentary, and photographic data collected in Block Island Sound. For more information on the ground-truth survey see .

The National Research Council's Decadal Study released in July of 2003 recognizes Venus as an important and probable target for a New Frontiers mission within the next decade. NASA's New Frontiers missions are directed towards answering key scientific questions regarding planetary formation and evolution. Specifically, by drilling and taking in-situ measurements on Venus, insight into what global mechanisms affect the evolution of volatiles on planetary bodies, why the terrestrial planets evolved so differently from each other and how these processes operate and interact, will be gained. Honeybee proposes to develop a concept for an arm-deployed high-temperature/pressure (HTP) sampling system capable of drilling to a depth of 30-cm or more and quickly acquiring multiple core and/or unconsolidated samples from selectable depths. A Phase I award and subsequent Phase II award will bring a high-temperature/pressure sampling system to sufficient Technology Readiness Level in time for proposal of a landed Venus mission in the next round of New Frontiers solicitations. Funding under this year's SBIR program would be a critical step in the development of a flight-ready sampling system for inclusion on a Venus landed mission to be launched by 2011.

These are raw data sheets with the results of a survey done at the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge Blue Heron Rookery in June of 1990. The volunteers counted the numbers of birds, nests and also identified the type of tree in which the herons nested.

As a part of PacIOOS, ocean gliders provide very detailed information about the physical and chemical condition of the waters around the Hawaiian Islands. Additionally, these data get used in computer models to make predictions about currents. Ocean gliders are small, free-swimming, unmanned vehicles that can cruise the ocean for several months gathering information about the temperature, salinity, and other water properties between the surface and 1000 m depth. A pressure sensor on the glider is able to record the depth throughout the dive. Because gliders are unmanned, they communicate with scientists on land when they are at the surface using an antenna on the end of the glider. The SeaGlider autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) was designed at the University of Washington (UW) Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). These data are taken from Mission 9 of SeaGlider 139.

The Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS) is a weather forecast model made up of 21 separate forecasts, or ensemble members. The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) started the GEFS to address the nature of uncertainty in weather observations, which are used to initialize weather forecast models. The proverbial butterfly flapping her wings can have a cascading effect leading to wind gusts thousands of miles away. This extreme example illustrates that tiny, unnoticeable differences between reality and what is actually measured can, over time, lead to noticeable differences between what a weather model forecast predicts and reality itself. The GEFS attempts to quantify the amount of uncertainty in a forecast by generating an ensemble of multiple forecasts, each minutely different, or perturbed, from the original observations. With global coverage, GEFS is produced four times a day with weather forecasts going out to 16 days and a 6 hour temporal resolution. This dataset has 2.5 degree horizontal resolution.

The proposed PAVE propulsion system technology demonstration combines an innovative high-speed aero-diesel engine with a novel ducted fan assembly resulting in a low noise/cost and high performance propulsion system. The core engine makes extensive use of a novel self-injection, compression ignition/combustion system capable of high-speed operation on kerosene-based fuels without degradation due to variations in fuel viscosity, lubricity and cetane value. Propulsion system safety is greatly enhanced by inherent single lever control, the employment of high flash point fuel, and the absence of fuel injection system degradation when operating on variable viscosity/lubricity Jet-A fuel having unregulated cetane values. Competing aero-diesel developments are dependant on OEM fuel system manufactures that are not willing to sell their system intended for aviation use due to the low lubricity of Jet fuel and the high product liability of General Aviation industry. The preferred self-injection system does not require any specialized equipment to produce and is comparable in cost to a carburetor. The controlled combustion is characterized by having modest pressure rise and virtually absent combustion noise thus eliminating the classic "diesel knock" and greatly improving the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).
