NOAA's National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) is building high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for select U.S. coastal regions in the Gulf of Mexico. These integrated bathymetric-topographic DEMs were developed for NOAA Coastal Survey Development Laboratory (CSDL) through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 to evaluate the utility of the Vertical Datum Transformation tool (VDatum), developed jointly by NOAA's Office of Coast Survey (OCS), National Geodetic Survey (NGS), and Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS). Bathymetric, topographic, and shoreline data used in DEM compilation are obtained from various sources, including NGDC, the U.S. Coastal Services Center (CSC), the U.S. Office of Coast Survey (OCS), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and other federal, state, and local government agencies, academic institutions, and private companies. DEMs are referenced to the vertical tidal datum of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (MHW), Mean High Water (MHW) or Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) and horizontal datum of North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83). Cell size ranges from 1/3 arc-second (~10 meters) to 1 arc-second (~30 meters). The DEMs are part of the tsunami forecast system SIFT (Short-term Inundation Forecasting for Tsunamis) currently being developed by PMEL for the NOAA Tsunami Warning Centers, and are used in the MOST (Method of Splitting Tsunami) model developed by PMEL to simulate tsunami generation, propagation, and inundation. Bathymetric, topographic, and shoreline data used in DEM compilation are obtained from various sources, including NGDC, the U.S. National Ocean Service (NOS), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other federal, state, and local government agencies, academic institutions, and private companies. DEMs are referenced to the vertical tidal datum of Mean High Water (MHW) and horizontal datum of World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84). Grid spacings for the DEMs range from 1/3 arc-second (~10 meters) to 3 arc-seconds (~90 meters).

The 2011 Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) dataset contains the most current TRI data available and reflects toxic chemical releases and pollution prevention activities that occurred at TRI facilities during the 2011 calendar year. You can use this dataset to find out what TRI-covered toxic chemicals are being produced and used at industrial facilities in your local area and how they are being managed. Please note that this dataset will change as the TRI Program continues to process TRI submissions. The TRI Program provides this dataset annually in late July to give the public an opportunity to see the most recent TRI information prior to the publication of the TRI National Analysis report in December. The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The file is georeferenced to earth's surface using the UTM projection and coordinate system. The specifications for the horizontal control of DFIRM data files are consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000.

The drainage known as the Cayo Atascosa transports irrigation return flow water through a cattail marsh and into Laguna Atascosa Lake located in Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. Sediment and water samples were collected to determine the effectiveness of the marsh as a filter for contaminants. Results demonstrate that although organochlorines and metals are present in low concentrations in the sediment, the Cayo Atascosa acts as a sink for these contaminants. In addition, the cattail Typha spp. marsh behaves as a biofilter for excess nutrients from upstream, thus protecting water quality in the Laguna Atascosa.

Luna Innovations Incorporated proposes to develop a high performance Ge quantum dots-based infrared (IR) imaging camera on Si substrate. The high sensitivity, large format imaging camera with a spectral response in the 1-4um region is extremely important for many NASA space and Earth programs. Luna's approach will allow significant reduction in price of the infrared imaging camera, increase pixel count and radiation hardness, reduction of dark current, increase of operation temperature while keeping all other performance metrics competitive with current state of the art technologies. Furthermore, Si substrates is very attractive in IR FPA technology, not only because it is less expensive and available in large area wafers but also because the coupling of the Si substrates with Si readout circuitry in an FPA structure allows fabrication of very large arrays exhibiting long-term thermal cycle reliability.

This can also be used to aid medical personnel allowing them to prioritize triage and evacuation in multiple casualty contingencies. </p><p>The goal for this project is to design, develop and advance technology for a near-instantaneous, non-invasive radio frequency-based method for measuring heart and lung function without invasive probes, cuffs, electrodes and without patient contact.</p>

The instruments used to collect these data include thermosalinographs, CTD, radiometer and trawl. These data were collected by Alex C Wertheimer, Emily A Fergusson, Joseph A Orsi and Molly V Sturdevant of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - Alaska Fisheries Science Center as part of NEP. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NODC on 2013-10-31. The following is the text of the abstract provided by BCO-DMO: This coastal monitoring study in the northern region of southeastern Alaska, known as the Southeast Coastal Monitoring Project (SECM), was initiated in 1997 and repeated from 1998 to 2006 (Orsi et al. 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002) to develop our understanding of the relationships between annual time series of biophysical data and stock-specific information. Data was collected in conjunction with juvenile salmon studies in the Gulf of Alaska from 1997-2006 by the Southeast Coastal Monitoring Project.

Traditional design methods for aircraft turbine engine control systems have relied on the use of linearized models and linear control theory. While these controllers can provide satisfactory performance, they do not exploit all the available knowledge about the nonlinear engine dynamics. Recent advances in computer-aided nonlinear control system design technology have made it feasible to design control systems using a detailed model of the engine. These nonlinear engine control systems have the potential to deliver a more precise control of the engine dynamics while satisfying multiple operational requirements. Using a NASA-supplied engine model, Phase I research will develop a nonlinear engine control system that can deliver uniform performance over the entire operating region. Operation at multiple operating points and transitions between them will be demonstrated during the Phase I research. Phase II work will develop a rapid-prototyping design environment for nonlinear engine control systems and real-time controller code generation for implementing the nonlinear control on engine control computer. Advanced engine control concepts such as active clearance control and adaptive engine control will also be demonstrated during the Phase II work. The design software and the control technology developed under the present SBIR will be commercialized during the Phase III research.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issues a probabilistic one-month temperature outlook for the United States twice a month. CPC issues an initial monthly outlook with a lead time of 0.5 months on the third Thursday of every month. CPC issues an updated version of the monthly outlook with a lead time of 0.0 months on the last day of each month. For example, in mid-January, CPC will issue a One-Month Probabilistic Temperature Outlook for February. An updated version of this outlook (valid for February) would then be issued at the end of January. New outlooks, valid for March, would then be released in mid-February and the end of February, respectively. CPC expresses the outlooks in a 3-category probabilistic format as the chance the mean temperature for the period will be above, below, or near normal. CPC bases its definition of above normal, near normal, and below normal by dividing a thirty year climatology into equally likely thirds comprising 10 cases each. Note that the base period for the thirty year climatology (currently beginning in 1981 and ending in 2010) is updated once per decade. The top 10 (warmest) cases of this thirty year climatology define the above normal category, the bottom 10 (coldest) cases define the below normal category, and the middle 10 cases define the near normal category. CPC indicates the probability of the most likely category with shaded contours and labels the centers of maximum probability with the letters "A" (for Above Normal), "B" (for Below Normal), or "N" (for Near Normal). For areas where a favored category cannot be determined, CPC indicates those areas with an "EC" meaning "Equal Chances". CPC also accompanies the outlook maps with a technical discussion of the meteorological and climatological basis for the outlooks. CPC may include analysis of statistical and numerical models, meteorological and sea-surface temperature patterns, trends and past analogs, and confidence factors in this technical discussion.

The Analog Marine Geophysical Underway data file consists primarily of seismic data and some bathymetry, magnetics, and gravity data. Most of the data are released to NGDC in microform packages; microfilm, microfiche exceptions include deep penetration seismic record sections and maps released in full or half scale. The data cover approximately 5 million miles of worldwide oceans and have been collected by various academic institutions, government agencies and foreign governments. Data are quality checked, master and backup copies produced and disseminated upon request. These seismic data include Lease Sale (LS) data which are a collection of marine geophysical data in a particular area and common depth point (CDP) data consisting of multichannel high-resolution underway seismic records. Shot-point navigation and occasionally annotated bathymetry accompany the seismic data. The data were released mainly from the US Geological Survey (USGS), and the Minerals Management Service (MMS). Output Media: sections, maps, 35-mm microfilm, magnetic tapes, text and microfiche. In most cases, the microfilm has been scanned and data available as tiff images.

This data set provides estimates of different forms of naturally occurring soil phosphorus (P) including labile inorganic P, organic P, occluded P, secondary mineral P, apatite P, and total P on a global scale at 0.5-degree resolution. The data were assembled from chronosequence information and global spatial databases to develop a map of total soil P and the distribution among mineral bound, labile, organic, occluded, and secondary P forms in soils. Uncertainty was calculated for the different forms. The data set has no explicit temporal component -- data were nominally for the pre-industrial period ca. 1850.The estimated global spatial variation and distribution of different soil P forms presented in this study will be useful for global biogeochemistry models that include P as a limiting element in biological production by providing initial estimates of the available soil P for plant uptake and microbial utilization (Yang et al., 2013).There is one netCDF data file (.nc) with this data set.
