This paper reports techniques developed to live trap and handle brown bears on the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. The brown bears Ursus middendorffi on the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, Kodiak Island, Alaska have been subject to heavy hunting pressure for the past decade. The refuge still produces the worlds largest bears but in order to continue maximum trophy production, more information is required on movements, growth rates, productivity, survival and other life history data. Presented at the 12th Alaska Science Conference, University of Alaska, College, August 31, 1961.

CCL 2 is a list of contaminants that are currently not subject to any proposed or promulgated national primary drinking water regulations, that are known or anticipated to occur in public water systems, and which may require regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The list includes, among others, pesticides, disinfection byproducts, chemicals used in commerce, waterborne pathogens, pharmaceuticals, and biological toxins. The Agency considered the best available data and information on health effects and occurrence to evaluate thousands of unregulated contaminants.

The Ecotox Program is at the forefront of research to understand the impacts of toxic stormwater runoff on NOAA trust resources, including salmon that spawn in urban and urbanizing watersheds throughout the western United States. This includes high-profile studies on dying coho salmon returning to spawn in urban streams throughout Puget Sound. Ecotox stormwater work has been funded for nearly a decade by the Coastal Services Center, as leads for the ecological resiliency component of the NOAA Coastal Storms Program. In-kind funding has also been provided by the NWR, EPA, the USFWS, and other partners. The science is at the core of the "Water Quality and Sustainable Practices on Land" priority objective for the National Ocean Policy, particularly Action 5. The need for targeted research on toxic runoff is expanding nationally, and Ecotox has recently begun project work with a focus on the Great Lakes.
