Description

An assessment of the design quality of 100 schemes in the East Midlands, West Midlands and South West. The assessment was carried out in 2006. Assessments were based on the Building for Life criteria. Schemes that were eligible for auditing included those that were larger than 20 units in size; completed between January 2003 and August 2006 (the date of the audit); and built by one of the top 10 housebuilders in the region, based on the number of units completed within the same period. Data on each scheme includes scheme name, location, developer, scores for individual Building for Life criteria and total scores. Six out of the 20 criteria which could not be assessed on site are incomplete, due to the poor response to a survey by developers.

Description

An assessment of the design quality of 100 new housing schemes in London, the South East and the East of England. The assessment was carried out in 2004. The assessment is based on the Building for Life criteria. For each of the three Government Office regions, the top 10 house builders by volume were selected (based on most recent available data). For each top 10 house builder all schemes were completed between 1 Jan 2001 and 1 Jan 2004, over 20 units in size and of ‘Average’ Sales price. The attainable scores for each housing scheme varied from -48 (a ‘Poor’ standard scheme) to +48 (a ‘Very Good’ standard scheme). Each of the 16 audit criteria could receive a score of +3 to -3, which were added together to make up the total. Data for each housing scheme includes the housing scheme name, completion date, scores for individual criteria and total scores.

Description

The June survey of Agriculture and Horticulture is an annual survey which collects detailed information on arable and horticultural cropping activities, land usage, livestock populations and labour force figures. This is a compulsory survey conducted under EU legislation and helps provide hard evidence on the condition of the agricultural industry. The survey data has many uses, from assisting with animal disease control processes to providing information which is used for management of the EU cereals markets. It is also used heavily by environmental policy makers who assess the impact of CAP reform on the agricultural industry and the landscape. As it is such a large survey, the data can be used to provide low level statistics i.e. at county level, which makes it a powerful tool for researchers and anyone interested in local features. There is a SPARQL Endpoint where this data can be queried and retrieved in RDF, XML or JSON at http://services.data.gov.uk/environment/sparql

Description

An assessment of the design quality of 41 planned housing schemes in the Thames Gateway. The assessment was carried out during 2007/2008 and was based on the Building for Life criteria. The criteria were applied to residential planning applications for major housing or mixed use schemes delivering significant additional homes to the area, and with a minimum of 50 dwellings in each scheme. Data includes local authority, scheme name, number of units, planning application date, planning approval date, scores for all twenty Building for Life criteria, and total scheme scores. There is also incomplete data on whether the scheme had a development brief, design standards, a master plan, a design & access statement, was built on private or public land, designated or otherwise, whether the local authority had design policies in place and the existence of design skills in the local authority.
