Version 1 of the Miocene deals almost entirely with southern Louisiana primarily because of the availability of data, especially the biostratigraphy. Publicly available data have been used wherever possible, however, in the case of proprietary data such as the Tenroc Regional Geologic Database, only derivative products are made available so that, for example, the isopach or structure contour maps show the locations of wells used to construct the contours but do not reveal the precise depths of the micropaleontologic identifications in that well. In addition to the data specific to southern Louisiana, a number of regional geologic coverages that will be applicable to all versions are also included for reference. The Miocene is the most important producing interval in the Gulf of Mexico Basin. Nehring (1991) reported that as of 1987, known recovery from the Miocene was nearly 150 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas, 19 billion barrels of crude oil, and 6 billion barrels of natural gas liquids (NGL) for nearly 49 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). He also noted that only seven other provinces worldwide contain more petroleum and none contained more in large (200-500 million BOE) fields. In its 1995 National Assessment of Oil and Gas Resources, the USGS reported the onshore and state waters component of these production totals to be approximately 37.1 TCF of natural gas, 2.5 billion barrels of oil, and 851 million barrels of NGL (Schenk and Viger, 1995). Known recovery from the Miocene in the northern Gulf of Mexico Basin increases upward and eastward from the Lower to the Upper Miocene (Nehring, 1991). Along the northern Gulf of Mexico Basin the Miocene comprises a series of thick off-lapping sequences of terrigenous clastics dominated by several long-lived deltaic systems and overlain by transgressive shale tongues. The total updip thickness is approximately 3,900 ft (1,200 m) in onshore Texas and 7,800 ft (2,400 m) in Louisiana (Galloway and others, 1991). It thickens to more than 25,000 ft (7,600 m) in offshore Louisiana (Meyerhoff, 1968). Galloway, and others (1991) attributed the tremendous downdip thickening of the Miocene to deposition on and basinward of the underlying unstable Frio Formation and thick salt. The rapid deltaic deposition triggered both growth faulting and movement of salt out of withdrawal basins into nearby diapirs thus providing additional accommodation space and the accumulation of thick, highly expanded sections of sandstone and shale. Eastward thickening is the result of the shift of feeder systems from west to east from early to late Miocene so that the late Miocene deltas occupied the position of the present-day Mississippi Delta (Galloway and others, 1991).

Terrapoint collected Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data to complete the 2005 project for Yakima County. This project has partial coverage of Yakima County, totaling 4757 sq km in southern Washington. The Airborne LiDAR survey was conducted using Terrapoint's 40 kHz ALTMS (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapping System), flying at an optimum height of 3500 ft AGL at 140 knots. The system consists of a 36-degree full angle laser, a Trimble 4700 GPS receiver and a Honeywell H764 IMU unit. This metadata is a collaboration of ancillary reports.

1. The purpose of this project is to collect, report, and analyze catch and biological information from the commercial west coast trawl catch share fishery. This fishery requires 100% observer coverage. 2. The project is a collaboration between NOAA Fisheries and Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC). 3. We place observers on commercial fishing vessels that participate in the catch share fishery to collect data on catch and to collect biological data. After collection, data will be quality controlled and then used to produce reports on fishery specific catch of species and mortality of groundfish species. 4. There are many products of this project, including yearly reporting of fishery catch, GIS maps of effort and catch, mortality of groundfish, bycatch of halibut and protected species, and to write manuscripts. 5. The primary management audience is the Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC). However, this data is highly sought after by researchers. 6. On-going project. 7. Stand-alone project. 8. We have many deadlines throughout the year from management, scientific, regional, industry, and other users of observer data and observer data analyzes. Observer raw data is matched to fish tickets to produce haul specific catch totals.

The National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) established the Coastal-Marine Automated Network (C-MAN) for the National Weather Service in the early 1980's. NDBC has installed approximately 50 C-MAN stations on lighthouses, at capes and beaches, on near shore islands, and on offshore platforms. NDBC has deployed over 100 moored (a.k.a., weather) buoys in coastal and offshore waters from the western Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean around Hawaii, and from the Bering Sea to the South Pacific. C-MAN and moored buoy data typically include barometric pressure, wind direction, speed and gust, and air temperature; however, some C-MAN stations are equipped to also measure seawater temperature, water level, waves, and relative humidity. Moored buoys measure wave energy spectra from which NDBC derives significant wave height, dominant wave period, and average wave period. In addition, many moored buoys measure the direction of wave propagation. In collaboration, NDBC and the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) are archiving these data from C-MAN and moored buoys.

Description

The activity of the erythrocyte enzyme daminolevulinic acid dehydratase ALAD has long been used as a biomarker of lead exposure in humans and waterfowl and, more recently, in fishes. We tested the assay for ALAD activity in fishes from streams affected by lead in combination with other metals from leadzinc mining and related activities. Fishes mostly catostomids were collected from sites affected by historic and current mining activities, and from sites thought to be unaffected by mining reference sites. A suite of elements was measured in blood and carcass samples of individual fish and in grab samples of water and sediment from each site. ALAD activity, total protein IP, and hemoglobin Hb content also were determined in blood. Concentrations of miningrelated metals lead, zinc, and cadmium were significantly greater PO.O5 at sites affected by historic mining activities than at reference and active mining sites. ALAD activity, Hb, and TP accounted for 66 of bloodlead and 69 of carcasslead variability when analyzed by multiple regression. Differences among species were minimal. ALAD activity as a biomarker was able to successfully distinguish sites affected by bioavailable environmental lead and appeared to be unaffected by other metals except for zinc, which tended to arneliorate the inactivation of ALAD by lead. The utility of the biomarker lies in its expedience and its ability to document bioavailability.

South America is part of Region 6 (Central and South America) for the World Energy Assessment. South America was divided into 107 geologic provinces as background for prioritization and assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The boundaries of geologic provinces are required for the assessment as oil and gas. Data must be allocated to a geographic entity so that decisions can be made as to which provinces are priority for the assessment. Many sources of geologic information were used to define the province boundaries in South America, and several versions of the map were reviewed. Of the 107 geologic provinces defined in South America, about 40 have had some oil and gas production to date.

This is a subset of AMSR-E rain rat eproduct along CloudSat field of view track. The goal of the subset is to select and return AMSR-E data that are within +-100 km across the CloudSat track. Thus resultant subset swath is 45 pixels cross-track. Apart from that, all efforts are made to preserve the original HDF-EOS formatting of the source full-sized data. The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer - Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) instrument on the NASA EOS Aqua satellite provides global passive microwave measurements of terrestrial, oceanic, and atmospheric variables for the investigation of water and energy cycles. The original, full-sized, product is Level-2B swath product (AE_Rain), and it contains instantaneous measurements of rain rate and rain type (convective vs. stratiform), generated from Level-2A brightness temperatures (AE_L2A). The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Profiling algorithm determines rain rate and type over ocean areas, and a Modified GSFC Profiling algorithm over land. Data are stored in HDF-EOS format, and are available from 18 June 2002 to present via FTP.

These data were collected under a cooperative agreement with the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Coastal and Marine Geology Program, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC). Initiated in 2003, the primary objective of this program is to develop regional geologic framework information for the management of coastal and marine resources. Accurate data and maps of sea-floor geology are important first steps toward protecting fish habitat, delineating marine resources, and assessing environmental changes due to natural or human impacts. The project is focused on the inshore waters of coastal Massachusetts, primarily in water depths of 3-30 meters deep. Data collected for the mapping cooperative have been released in a series of USGS Open-File Reports (http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/project-pages/coastal_mass/html/current_map.html). The data collected in the study area located in northern Cape Cod Bay Massachusetts includes high-resolution geophysics (bathymetry, backscatter intensity, and seismic reflection), and ground validation (sediment samples, video tracklines, and bottom photographs). The data were collected during five separate surveys conducted between 2006 and 2008 and cover 480 square kilometers of the inner continental shelf. Digital orthographic imagery datasets contain georeferenced images of the Earth's surface, collected by a sensor in which object displacement has been removed for sensor distortions and orientation, and terrain relief. Digital orthoimages have the geometric characteristics of a map, and image qualities of a photograph. (Source: Circular A-16, p. 16) This data set contains imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). The NAIP acquires digital ortho imagery during the agricultural growing seasons in the continental U.S. A primary goal of the NAIP program is to enable availability of ortho imagery within one year of acquisition. The NAIP provides two main products: 1 meter ground sample distance (GSD) ortho imagery rectified to a horizontal accuracy within +/- 5 meters of reference digital ortho quarter quads (DOQQ's) from the National Digital Ortho Program (NDOP) or from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP); 1 meter GSD ortho imagery rectified within +/- 6 meters to true ground. The tiling format of NAIP imagery is based on a 3.75' x 3.75' quarter quadrangle with a 300 meter buffer on all four sides. The NAIP imagery is formatted to the UTM coordinate system using the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The NAIP imagery may contain as much as 10% cloud cover per tile. This file was generated by compressing NAIP imagery that cover the county extent. Two types of compression may be used for NAIP imagery: MrSID and JPEG 2000. Target value for the compression ratio is (15:1).
