Description

These datasets each consist of a folder containing a personal geodatabase of the NHD, and shapefiles used in the HydroDEM process. These files are provided as a means to document exactly which lines were used to develop the HydroDEMs. Each folder contains a line shapefile named for the 8-digit HUC code, containing the NHD flowlines that comprise the coastline for that island. The “hydrolines.shp” shapefile contains the lines that were burned into the DEM. These lines were selected from the NHD flowlines, with some minor editing in places. The “wbpolys.shp” shapefile contains the water-body polygons that were selected from the NHD and used in the bathymetric gradient process. The folders for HUCs 20010000 (Hawaii) and 20020000 (Maui) also contain a “walls.shp” shapefile, which contains the lines that were superimposed on the surface as “walls.”

The Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is entirely contained within Wisconsin Deer Management Unit 56, except for a few small parcels in Unit 53 east of State Highway 80. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources WIDNR predicts a generally expanded deer population statewide due to several mild winters and abundant quality habitat. In an effort to control this expanding deer population, the Wisconsin DNR has proposed an expanded deer season for the Fall 2000 Hunting Season in 97 ofthe 129 Deer Management Units. This includes both Units 53 and 56. This Hunting Plan Amendment will examine each of these proposals and their implications for the Refuge in terms of harvest, hunter safety, disturbance to other nontarget species, impacts to other recreational users and whether participation is desired.

The SEATA consists of six test rooms which contain mounting provisions for at least two concurrent test setups and a supply of high-pressure/high-temperature compressed air, hydraulic and electrical power and cooling water for heat and power absorption. Each room has its own dedicated control room which supports remote operation, control devices, instrumentation and monitoring of all parameters and real-time data recording (automated data acquisition). The rooms can be used for testing air turbine starters, air turbine starter/accessory drives, air turbine starter control valves, hydraulic starters, electric starters, auxiliary power units, gas turbine starter/auxiliary power units, gas turbine starters and small turboshaft and piston engine with horsepower ranges to 8000 HP. Recorded data is tailored to requirements and may include cell environmental conditions, shaft power and electrical loads, fluid flows, critical system temperatures, pressures and vibrations. Performance calculations and diagnostics are performed online during testing. The test article control system allows either fully automated unattended operations or fully automated operations with minimal operator support. The facility supports qualification, performance and experimental testing. Test stands and piping exist to test most starting system components in the U.S. Navy inventory. The rooms are designed to accommodate complete aircraft starting systems. Auxiliary power units, air turbine starters and air turbine starter control valves can all be tested together as a complete system.

Description

As solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) approach commercialization, interest in broader applications of this technology is mounting. While the first commercialized systems are being designed to provide 3-5 kW in stationary and automotive auxiliary power unit (APU) applications, aerospace and military users are considering integrating SOFCs into larger, airborne systems with considerable commercial payback. SOFCs are aligned to displace inefficient, noisy, and polluting technologies such as diesel generators that will provide both economic and environmental motivation to prospective users. NexTech Materials will develop a solid oxide fuel cells that demonstrate high power density, targeting 2W/cm2, a level of performance that will enable the compact, lightweight systems required for aerospace applications to become a reality. Such high power density SOFCs will provide the bridge from stationary residential power systems to airborne auxiliary power units. The fuel cells that result from these applications will lead the way to efficient and clean aircraft. This Phase I work will focus on processing and evaluating highly conductive electrolyte and electrode materials and the incorporation of these materials into high power density, SOFC cells suitable for commercial stack fabrication in Phase II.

Description

This data set is a polygon coverage created in ARC/INFO that represents the generalized thickness of the Minnelusa Formation, Black Hills, South Dakota. The thickness of the Minnelusa Formation was determined by substracting the elevation of the top of the Madison Limestone from the elevation of the top of the Minnelusa Formation. The elevations for the tops of the formations were determined from geologic logs for wells drilled as of 1998. The thickness coverage contains polygons that have single integer values representing a range of thickness.

This is an ongoing Bonneville Power Administration funded project to annually collect, PIT tag, and release wild Chinook salmon parr in up to 17 streams of the Salmon River drainage in Idaho and subsequently monitor these fish (and fish tagged by ODFW) through in-stream monitors and downstream dams. The overall study objectives are as follows: 1) Assess the migrational characteristics and estimate parr-to-smolt survival rates for wild spring/summer Chinook salmon smolts at Lower Granite Dam. 2) Characterize the survival and movement of parr and smolts as they leave natal rearing areas of selected streams. 3) Examine the relationships between fish movement, environmental conditions within the streams, and weather and climate data. 4) Monitor parr-to-smolt growth rates on previously PIT tagged wild parr at Little Goose or Lower Granite Dam each spring. Regional fisheries managers use data generated by this project to make real-time management decisions for operation of the hydropower system (FCRPS) to better protect these ESA-listed fish during smolt migrations. Baseline data from this study provide a foundation for understanding the biocomplexity of these populations, which is critical to effective recovery efforts for these threatened wild fish populations. Up to 6 water quality parameters collected hourly in 16 streams of the Salmon River basin in Idaho.

Description

The Drainage_Basin polygon feature class was created as a digital representation of drainage basins for more than 1,650 continuous-record streamflow-gaging stations, partial record streamflow-gaging stations of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other watercourse locations of interest. The Drainage_Basin polygon feature class replaces the drainage basins previously derived through planimetric methods on paper maps, and provides a digital representation that previously was unavailable. The dataset will be used for the update and publication of drainage areas to all USGS stations in Virginia. This dataset represents historical flow patterns and avoids anthropogenic changes to flow when possible. The Drainage_Basin polygon feature class has a unique format with cascading, or stacked, polygons. In a coverage format, to calculate the drainage area of a large basin containing multiple sub-basins, the area from multiple polygons would be summed. However, within the Drainage_Basin polygon feature class, one polygon is used to store the entire drainage area to each USGS station. Because geodatabases and shapefiles are able to store multiple copies of the same geometry, the Drainage_Basin polygon feature class can hold polygons that are stacked. During the digitizing and editing phases topology rules were utilized to ensure that stacked linework was identical. Each polygon in Drainage_Basin has a value within the Station_number field. Most values represent USGS station number found in the National Water Information System (NWIS) database http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis. The station locations stored within NWIS represent the locations of monitoring equipment maintained by the USGS. During the delineation process, these locations were used as reference points to the downstream end of a drainage basin, but usually were not the outlet point. For this reason, the point locations are not contained in this dataset. Most are available through NWIS by searching for the station number.

Description

Low-Frequency, All Digital Radar (ADR) can be a key component for NASA Phased-array and tomographic Radar systems spanning multiple earth-science measurement objectives. One of the key attractions of ADR is hardware re-use for different scenarios. Intelligent Automation Inc. (IAI) proposes the design of an ADR system to meet the technology requirements listed in this solicitation. State-of-the-art technologies in the design of data conversion devices like Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC), Digital-to-Analog Converters (DAC), Direct Digital Synthesizers (DDS) and reconfigurable logic devices like Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) MMIC make it possible to realize the concept of ADR with low SWaP and low-cost goals. The proposed ADR will build upon IAI's Software Defined Radio/ Radar (SDR) design expertise. Our proposed approach is modular, scalable and meets the NASA goals of multi-channel, coherent altimeters along the cross track to obtain high resolution in the cross track direction.
