The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) was a partnership between NASA and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Flown aboard the NASA Space Shuttle Endeavour (11-22 February 2000), SRTM fulfilled its mission to map the world in three dimensions. The USGS is under agreement with NGA and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to distribute SRTM elevation products derived from the C-band radar data. SRTM utilized interferomic C-band Spaceborne Imaging Radar to generate elevation data over 80 percent of the Earth's land surface. The SRTM collection has been edited to delineate and flatten water bodies, better define coastlines, remove spikes and wells, and fill small voids.

Data from Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED), NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) Subsurface Temperature Recorders (STR) provide a time series of water temperature at coral reef sites. Data is typically collected at 1800 second intervals for a duration of 2 years using a SBE39 Temperature Recorder (Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com). When a STR is recovered, a new one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Oceanographic station data were collected from the INGHAM within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station H (3800N 07100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 07 March 1975 to 22 March 1975. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/sd2.html. The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issues 6 to 10 day probabilistic precipitation outlooks for the United States. The 6-10 day Outlook gives the confidence that a forecaster has, given as a probability, that the observed precipitation, totaled over upcoming days 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 will be in the range of one of three possible categories: below median (B), near median (N), or above median (A). For any calendar 5-day period, these categories can be defined by fitting a Gamma distribution to the 30 years of the climatology period, 1981-2010, and dividing this distribution into equally likely partitions (below median, near median, and above median). Note that the base period for the thirty year climatology (currently beginning in 1981 and ending in 2010) is updated once per decade. Because each of these categories occurs 1/3 of the time for any particular calendar 5-day period, the probability of any category being selected at random from the 1981-2010 set of 30 observations is one in three (1/3), or 33.33%. This is also called the climatological probability. The sum of the climatological probabilities of the three categories is 100%.

Bathythermograph data were collected from the CHINCOTEAGUE within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station B (56305N 05100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 30 July 1963 to 26 August 1963. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

This data set reports the results of a rainfall exclusion experiment in the Tapajos National Forest (Flona-Tapajos) at km 67 along the Santarem-Cuiaba BR-163 highway. From December 1999 through April 2005, following a one-year pre-treatment phase, rainfall was excluded from one of two 1-hectare plots of seasonally dry humid tropical forest. Soil emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitric oxide (NO), nitrous oxide (N2O), and methane (CH4) were monitored in order to determine the likely effect of increasingly frequent El Nino drought episodes in the Amazon basin. Soil trace gas flux data are provided in one comma-separated data file.

Bathythermograph data were collected from the DUANE within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station C (5245N 03530W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 24 November 1973 to 17 December 1973. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instrument. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.

NODC accession 0104332 includes physical and underway data collected aboard the OCEANUS during cruise OC468-01 in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean from 2010-08-11 to 2010-08-18. These data include CURRENT SPEED - EAST/WEST COMPONENT (U) and CURRENT SPEED - NORTH/SOUTH COMPONENT (V). The instruments used to collect these data include ADCP and GPS. These data were collected by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of Transit. The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) submitted these data to NODC as part of the NSF sponsored Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program. The ADCP data represent the raw and automated processed data set. Post processed quality assessed data are not available in this accession.
