The water depth and temperature data along with Ocean Station data was collected from ship Xiang Yang Hong 14 in cruises 7 and 8. The data was collected from TOGA (Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere) Area in the Pacific (30 N to 30 S) from October 1989 to July 1990. The originator's bathythermograph (XBT) data was submitted by First Institute of Oceanography, Shandong Province, China. The data has been converted and is now available on line in C116-Bathythermograph-XBT and C100 Ocean-Station-Data file formats of NODC.

Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the EDGAR M. QUEENY and other platforms from 11 June 1979 to 24 October 1979. Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and other institutions as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to be obtained to 1830 m.

Marine mammal specimen and other data were collected from the SURVEYOR and other platforms from 10 February 1977 to 19 November 1977. Data were collected by the Alaska State Department of Fish and Game as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F025 Marine Mammal Specimens format. Full format description ia available from the NODC homepage at www.nodc.noaa.gov/. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F025 format is designed to support studies of biological populations and ecosystems that are subject to impact from oil and gas development, marine pollution and other environmental disturbances. Information on marine animal populations, activities, migratory routes and breeding locales are obtained from either surface ship or aircraft surveys. The F025 format contains data from examinations of marine mammal specimens. The data are collected to define behavior, population dynamics and trophic relationships of marine mammals. In addition to species, position, time and environmental conditions at the collection site, data for each specimen may include weight and body dimensions, sex and reproductive status, age, primary cause of death and analysis of stomach contents. The species of both the specimen and its ingested prey are encoded using the NODC Taxonomic Code. Comments may be reported in a free-text record.

Liquid Robotics Wave Glider, Honey Badger (G3), 2015, C3. C3 board number 8215 (not coated) appears as board_id=32, task_id=23. C3 board number 771 (coated) appears as board_id=3, task_id=3. The MAGI mission is to use the Wave Glider to sample the late summer chlorophyll bloom that develops near 30°N, with the goal of using the camera and LISST-Holo to try to identify species in the blooms and then follow the development of phytoplankton aggregates. These aggregates have recently been shown to be a significant part of the total amount of carbon that sinks to the deep sea. Karl et al (2012) found that in each of the past 13 years, there was a flux of material to 4,000 m (the summer export pulse) that represented ~20% of the total annual flux. Work based on satellite ocean color data over the past decade has revealed the existence of large phytoplankton blooms in the Pacific Ocean that cover thousands of km2, persist for weeks or longer, and are often dominated by nitrogen-fixing diatom symbioses (Wilson et al. 2008). We hope to be able to examine whether this aggregation is occurring in the vast oceanic regions north and east of Hawai'i and provide a basin-scale context for the ALOHA observations. These events have proven difficult to study outside of the time series station ALOHA at Hawai'i.

Current direction, temperature, and salinity data were collected using moored current meter casts in the Gulf of Mexico from June 1, 1983 to September 1, 1983. Data were submitted by Texas A&M University as part of the Brine Disposal project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Current Meter Data (F005) format. Full current meter moorings descriptions are available at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f005.html. The F005 format is used for time series measurements of ocean currents obtained using moored current-measuring instruments, principally Aanderaa current meters (manufactured by Aanderaa Instruments Inc.). These data represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed mooring point and measure flow past the sensor. Position, water depth, and sensor depth are reported for each station. The data record comprises values of current direction and speed at specified date and time. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10-15 minute time intervals. Other environmental parameters may also be reported. These include: water temperature, salinity, conductivity, and transmissivity; wind direction and speed; and dominant wave direction, height, and period. A text field is available for optional comments.
