The GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) program is the Navy's initiative to develop an operational series of radar altimeter satellites to maintain continuous ocean observation from the GEOSAT Exact Repeat Orbit. GFO was launched in February 1998. On 29 November 2000 the Navy accepted the satellite as operational. GFO officially ended on October 22, 2008. This accession contains the housekeeping telemetry, radiometer and altimeter calibration and full waveform data (when available) for the altimeter calibration.

NOAA worked together with the Naval Oceanographic Office to process the altimeter data and provides the NOAA version of the Geophysical Data Record (GDR) to the scientific research community. All data are unclassified. The GDR is generated from GFO Sensor Data Records (SDRs), precise laser orbit ephemerides provided by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Raytheon ITSS, environmental corrections, and ancillary geophysical variables.

Popis

This data set represents the benthic community information gathered from grab sampling in 2002 (56 stations). In Fall/Winter 2002, researchers from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) and the NOAA Office for Coastal Management conducted a project to map benthic habitats by Catlett and Goodwin Islands on the York River, Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. Sediment grab samples were collected at 56 stations and sediment profile images were collected at 200 stations. Sampling areas were also surveyed using side scan sonar and multibeam bathymetry sensors. Scientists from the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences returned to sample a subset of the 2002 sediment grab data in 2003 and then again in 2004. A subset of SPI stations (79) were revisited in 2004.

NODC Accession 0081046 includes chemical, meteorological, physical and underway - surface data collected from Ryofu Maru II in the Bismarck Sea, East China Sea (Tung Hai), North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, Sea of Japan and South Pacific Ocean from 1989-11-17 to 2011-03-14 and retrieved during cruise 49RY19891117. These data include BAROMETRIC PRESSURE, CARBON DIOXIDE - AIR, Partial pressure (or fugacity) of carbon dioxide, SALINITY and SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE. The instruments used to collect these data include Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas analyzer and Shower head chamber equilibrator for autonomous carbon dioxide (CO2) measurement. These data were collected by Akira Nakadate and Shu Saito of Japan Meteorological Agency; Pollutants Chemical Analysis Center; Marine Division; Global Environment and Marine Depertment as part of the VOS R/V Ryofu Maru Lines data set. The Global Volunteer Observing Ship (VOS) Program is coordinated by the UNESCO International Ocean Carbon Coordination Project (IOCCP). International groups from 14 countries have been outfitting research ships and commercial vessels with automated CO2 sampling equipment to analyze the carbon exchange between the ocean and atmosphere.

MODIS data is used to develop an index of the amount of chromophoric dissolved organic material (CDOM) in the surface waters. CDOM absorbs heavily in the blue wavelengths and thus can skew many derived products, especially in coastal waters. THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL PRODUCT: intended strictly for scientific evaluation by professional marine scientists.
