The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Popis
The investigators propose to take annual springtime, large-scale airborne surveys of the Arctic Ocean. These surveys will be in two regions: the central Arctic Ocean (annual surveys), and the southern Beaufort Sea (biannual surveys). They will thus sample the two main circulation features of the Arctic Ocean, the Transpolar Drift Stream and the Beaufort Gyre. In both cases, the researchers will leverage existing operational capabilities when possible, such as the North Pole Environmental Observatory (NPEO) in the central Arctic and US Navy Ice Camps in the Beaufort Sea. The proposed surveys have two main goals: (a) observe Arctic Ocean change by taking sea ice and ocean sections across frontal features, and (b) advance the understanding of seasonal variability in the sea ice upper ocean system to map the growth and melt of ice and to reduce seasonal bias in comparisons of past and future hydrographic records.

NOAA ESRI Grid - 3m Bathymetric Rugosity around Isla de Mona, Puerto Rico, Project NF-07-06, 2007, UTM 19 NAD 83

Popis
This dataset contains an ESRI Grid representing the rugosity of a 3 m bathymetric grid for selected portions of seafloor around Isla De Mona in Puerto Rico, derived from data collected in 2007. Rugosity is defined as the ratio of surface area to planar area and is used as a measure of benthic terrain complexity or "roughness". Rugosity values near 1 represent flat, smooth terrain, while higher values reflect increasing rugosity or terrain roughness. For rugosity grid interpretation, it is recommended that the grid be reclassified according to standard deviation divisions. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in Puerto Rico from 4/14/07 to 4/24/07. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 (95 kHz) multibeam echosounder. It was processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 19 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. An ASCII XYZ file was exported from the BASE surface and opened in ESRI ArcMap 9.x using the XYZ to raster tool. The Benthic Terrain Modeller (BTM) tool, a collection of ArcGIS terrain visualization tools developed by the Oregon State University (OSU) Department of Geosciences and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center, was used to calculate the rugosity of that bathymetric grid. More information on the specific algorithms used can be found in the BTM's documentation. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

This data set contains color (RGB) and Near Infrared ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20100907 - 20110918. The images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). Ortho-rectified mosaic tiles are an ancillary product of NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program (CMP), created through a wider Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping initiative to increase support for multiple uses of the data. The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 0.50 m. Data are in Geotiff (.tif) format with associated browse graphics and metadata in Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) format.

The World Ocean Database 1998 (WOD98) is comprised of five CD-ROMs containing profile and plankton/biomass data in compressed format. WOD98-01 through WOD98-04 contain observed level data, WOD98-05 contains all the standard level data. World Ocean Database 1998 (WOD98) expands on World Ocean Atlas 1994 (WOA94) by including the additional variables nitrite, pH, alkalinity, chlorophyll, and plankton, as well as all available metadata and meteorology. WOD98 is an International Year of the Ocean product. WOD98-01 Observed Level Data; North Atlantic 30ð N-90ð N; WOD98-02 Observed Level Data; North Atlantic 0ð-30ð N, South Atlantic; WOD98-03 Observed Level Data; North Pacific 20ð N-90ð N; WOD98-01 Observed Level Data; North Pacific 0ð-20ð N; South Pacific, Indian; WOD98-01 Standard Level Data for all Ocean Basins. Copies of the World Ocean Atlas 1998 (WOA98) version 1 CD-ROMs are no longer available from the NODC Online Store. Duplicate discs may be created by burning the appropriate .iso file(s) in the data/0-data/disc_image/ directory to blank CD-ROM media using standard CD-ROM authoring software. Software that was developed or provided with this NODC Standard Product may be included in the disc_image/ directory as part of a disc image, but executable software that was developed or provided with this NODC Standard Product has been excluded from the disc_contents/ directory.
