Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the ALBATROSS IV and other platforms from 23 September 1981 to 29 November 1982. Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and other institutions as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) and WARM CORE RINGS projects. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to be obtained to 1830 m.

The communities in this data collection include coral, seagrass, bare bottom, hard bottom, tidal flat, saltmarsh, and halophila communities. This coverage shows benthic distributions of various organisms for South Florida. The data provider included a metadata file in the FGDC description with the data files in this collection. Geographic Information System (GIS) software is required to fully utilize the contents of this accession.

This dataset contains a unified GeoTiff with 30x30 meter cell size representing the bathymetry of several deep coral priority areas off the South Atlantic Bight, derived from data collected in 2003. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Branch, in collaboration with the College of Charleston, as well as the United State Navy Ship Pathfinder (USNS) , and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data off the South Atlantic Bight from 06/14/03 to 07/6/03. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 multibeam echosounder (95 kHz). It was processed by the College of Charleston Department of Geology using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM Zone 17 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. The CARIS Export option "BASE Surface to Image" was then used to create a GeoTiff of the priority areas.Rugosity was derived from this surface using NOAA's Benthic Terrain Modeler extension.

This georeferenced image represents 10 meter resolution multibeam bathymetry of the Mid Shelf Reef south of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in the US Virgin Islands from 2/1/05 to 2/12/05. Data was acquired with a pole-mounted Reson 8101 ER multibeam echosounder (240 kHz) and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS v5.4 software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface -akin to a DTM- based on swath angle. Within CARIS, an imagery file with associated georeferencing was then exported from the BASE surface.The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

Shallow-water, aggregated cover maps were produced by combining as many as four or more detailed habitat types into general cover categories. The original detailed habitat maps were produced by rule-based, semi- automated image analysis of high-resolution satellite imagery for nine locations in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. This project is a cooperative effort between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to produce benthic habitat maps and georeferenced imagery for the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. This project was conducted in support of the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force.

These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

The Atlas contains metadata and shape files of 18 different species in the Gulf of Mexico as of 1985. The shapefiles display the spatial and temporal distribution of 18 different species in the Gulf of Mexico as of 1985. The species shown include Brown Shrimp, Cobia, Dolphin, Gray Snapper, Greater Amberjack, King Mackerel, Lane Snapper, Pink Shrimp, Red Drum, Red Grouper, Red Snapper, Spanish Mackerel, Spiny Lobster, Stone Crab, Tilefish, Vermilion Snapper, White Shrimp, and Yellowtail Snapper. Data fields include categories for adult, spawning, nursery, commercial fishing and recreational fishing. Data was derived from maps produced for the "Gulf of Mexico Coastal and Ocean Zones Strategic Assessment: Data Atlas" published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Strategic Environmental Assessment Division, Rockville, MD 1985. This coverage was developed as a part of the Gulf of Mexico Ecosystem Pilot Project. This pilot project was designed to improve identification and remote access to habitat data for fishery managers and researchers, and to provide habitat mapping capabilities within the Gulf of Mexico region. To reach this goal, a consortium built on shared expertise and resources from within National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS), and state participants has focused on several tasks, including developing an inventory and clearinghouse for existing habitat-related data and information, continuing developing a searchable FGDC compliant habitat metadata catalog, developing remote internet gateways to life history, habitat, and ecological data sets, and producing geographic information system (GIS) products for habitat mapping.
