This map layer portrays the 2000 State and county boundaries of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The map layer was created by extracting county polygon features from the individual 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. These files were then merged into a single file. This is a revised version of the November 2004 map layer.

The global land surface temperature databank contains monthly timescale mean, max, and min temperature for approximately 40,000 stations globally. It was developed as part of the International Surface Temperature Initiative. This is the global repository for all monthly timescale land surface observations from the 1800s to present and uses data deriving from sub-daily, daily, and monthly observations. It brings together data from more than 45 sources and is used in the creation of various integrated global temperature resources, most notably Global Historical Climatology Network Monthly (GHCN-M) v4. “Stage 1” Daily Data is purposefully provided as raw, non-homogenized observations with no integrated quality control performed. Data are submitted as-is from the data provider to ensure absolute data integrity and visibility of the data.

Popis

County subdivisions are the primary divisions of counties and their equivalent entities for the reporting of Census Bureau data. They include legally-recognized minor civil divisions (MCDs) and statistical census county divisions (CCDs), and unorganized territories. For the 2010 Census, the MCDs are the primary governmental and/or administrative divisions of counties in 29 States and Puerto Rico; Tennessee changed from having CCDs for Census 2000 to having MCDs for the 2010 Census. In MCD States where no MCD exists or is not defined, the Census Bureau creates statistical unorganized territories to complete coverage. The entire area of the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas are covered by county subdivisions. The boundaries of most legal MCDs are as of January 1, 2013, as reported through the Census Bureau's Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS). The boundaries of all CCDs, delineated in 21 states, are those as reported as part of the Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for the 2010 Census. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation.

This SBIR Phase II effort involves the development of a novel rodent spaceflight habitat, focusing on care and monitoring of mice for gravitational physiology studies. The effort is tightly linked with the Mars Gravity Biosatellite (MGB) program, a university-led initiative developing a partial gravity free-flyer research platform. It leverages both the Murine Automated Urine Sampler (MAUS) accomplished by Payload Systems, Inc. and MIT during Phase I, including demonstrating biochemical preservation of key analytes for up to five weeks, and further hardware design and prototyping conducted under separately-funded MGB activities. MAUS extends earlier NASA and other laboratory waste management and preservation techniques in a novel manner, enabling solid-state storage and quantitative analysis of small animal urine. In Phase II, we will further refine both the hardware and biochemical techniques developed for the MAUS under Phase I, and integrate these elements into a fully-functional Animal Support Module (ASM). Along with the MAUS, the ASM will include air circulation, cage lighting, video collection, food provision, water supply and additive injection, instrumented floor, and contingency euthanasia systems. This Phase II project will result in critical hardware for the MGB program and important innovations for other rodent-based flight and ground research.

Inventory and Monitoring Plan for Washita National Wildlife Refuge and Optima National Wildlife Refuge This Inventory and Monitoring Plan IMP documents the inventory and monitoring surveys that will or could be conducted at Washita and Optima NWRs from 2015 through 2030, or until the refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan CCP is revised. The majority of priority surveys considered in this plan address resource management objectives identified in the 2009 CCP. The two refuges are considered together in this IMP because they share administrative staff NWR complex; all management and staff for the complex are stationed at Washita NWR. Following the IMP development process, 6 surveys were selected for the complex see Tables 1 2. Of these surveys, 5 were selected as current and can be conducted given the existing capacity of the complex andor regional staff. One surveys was selected as expected and will move forward after a protocol is written; staff and operating costs needed to implement this survey are available from existing resources. Two surveys were designated as future, and will only move forward after protocols are identified, and staff and funds are obtained.

The Tillamook Bay subbasins and Nehalem River basins encompass 1,369 and 2,207 respective square kilometers of northwestern Oregon and drain to the Pacific Ocean. The Tillamook, Trask, Wilson, Kilchis, and Miami Rivers flow into Tillamook Bay near the towns of Tillamook and Garibaldi. The Wilson and Trask River basins cover the largest areas (500 and 451 square kilometers, respectively) whereas the Tillamook and Kilchis Rivers encompass similar sized areas (156 and 169 square kilometers, respectively) and the Miami River the smallest area (94 square kilometers). In cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Geological Survey completed a reconnaissance-level assessment of channel condition and bed-material transport relevant to the permitting of in-stream gravel extraction along the the major alluvial portions of six river systems, including the lowermost 14.1 km of the Tillamook River, 16.3 km of the Trask River, 15.2 km of the Wilson River, 7.8 km of the Kilchis River, 11.6 km of the Miami River, and 31.4 km of the Nehalem River. To support these analyses, digital channel maps were produced to depict channel and floodplain conditions in the Tillamook Bay sub-basins and Nehalem River basin from different time periods. GIS layers defining the wetted channel and bar features and channel centerline in the study area were developed for four time periods: 1939, 1967, 2005, and 2009. For this project, the active channel was defined as area typically inundated during annual high flows, and includes the low-flow channel as well as side channels, islands, and channel-flanking gravel bars. The wetted channel and bar feature datasets were developed by digitizing from aerial photographs. Aerial photographs from 1939 and 1967 were scanned, rectified, and mosaicked for this project (See metadata for each photograph set for more information on the rectification process and resolution of each dataset). Digital orthophotographs from 2005 and 2009 are publicly available.

Our proposed innovation is to design and fabricate a diode pumped Er:YAG micro-chip laser capable of varied repetition rates and high pulse energies using the single emitter-based high brightness pump developed in the Phase I. Future NASA missions will require high-pulse power with variable repetition rate flash and scanning LIDAR systems. Such LIDAR systems offer the advantages of excellent spatial resolution, high efficiency, and high beam quality. We propose to design and fabricate a resonantly pumped, passively Q-switched Er:YAG laser for eye-safe wavelength operation. We will incorporate the Er:YAG crystal and saturable absorber into the pump module, creating a compact, robust, and efficient Q-switched solid-state microchip laser. The development of long wavelength, high power, highly efficient, fiber coupled pump modules will be continued. The basic pump unit, known as Pearl, has already proven itself robust in rigorous environmental testing. The performance of these devices will be enhanced by the addition of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) for improved temperature stability and narrowed spectral line width for enhanced pump absorption. The development of these fiber coupled pump modules will be of great use to NASA for the pumping of future Er:YAG and Er-doped fiber laser systems, enabling high pulse energy eye-safe LIDAR systems.

The National Status and Trends Program is comprised of three nationwide programs: Benthic Surveillance, Mussel Watch, and Bioeffects. These programs are in place to observe estuarine and coastal waters nationwide to describe the current status and detect changes in the environmental quality using long-term, continuous monitoring. Special Studies is another program which assesses the environmental impacts of different events, such as Hurricane Katrina. Mussel Watch is the longest continuous, nationwide contaminant monitoring program, running from 1986 to present, analyzing sediment and bivalve tissue for organic contaminants and trace metals. Bioeffects Assessment Program has completed over 30 regional studies since 1991, studying sediment contaminants, toxicity, and the condition of benthic communities. Benthic Surveillance monitored chemical concentrations of bottom-swelling fish and sediments, as well as biological effects of contaminant exposure. This project was discontinued in 1993.
