Data from Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED), NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) Subsurface Temperature Recorders (STR) provide a time series of water temperature at coral reef sites. Data is typically collected at 1800 second intervals for a duration of 2 years using a SBE39 Temperature Recorder (Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com). When a STR is recovered, a new one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Potential risk to ecological receptors in Heeia Stream and Wetland was characterized through the use of a foodweb model to predict effects to the Hawaiian stilt, chosen as a representative species for all waterbirds. It was assumed that risk estimates for Hawaiian stilt would support management decisions that would be protective enough for other avian receptors as well as native aquatic biota. Risk estimation involved a hazard quotient methodology to calculate critical exposure levels for individual stilt. If an exposure point concentration exceeded the critical exposure level for a particular CPEC, then the potential for adverse ecological effects was indicated. The model predicted that seven of the CPECs total DDT, dieldrin, PCB Aroclors 1254 and 1260, barium, manganese, and vanadium posed some level of ecological risk. The majority of exposure to organic CPECs in this model was obtained through fish consumption. Exposure to riskposing metals was variably partitioned among fish, invertebrate, and sediment consumption. Based on the results of the field study, exposure assessment, ecological effects assessment, foodweb model, and lines of evidence examined, all but five CPECs were eliminated from further consideration in the risk assessment. The five contaminants identified to constitute a risk to ecological receptors in Heeia Stream and Heeia Wetland were total DDT, dieldrin, PCB Aroclor 1254, barium, and manganese. Since indications of potential adverse effects to offsite ecological receptors were not necessarily the result of past practices at the Omega Station, the distribution patterns of these five CPECs in sediments and tissues were closely evaluated for evidence of their relationship to the Omega Station site. Results of this evaluation were as follows: Total DDT and Dieldrin appeared to be attributable to a local source of DDT in the vicinity of lower Heteia Stream. PCB Aroclor 1254 insufficient data to attribute or disqualify the Omega Station as the source. Barium may be attributable to Omega Station activities. Manganese data indicate a depleted source that is equally affecting the lower stream and wetland system at Heeia. It is possible that this source may be the Omega Station. Due to the overall level of uncertainty in the risk assessment and the fact that contaminant hot spots in Heteia Stream and Heeia Wetland have not been delineated, contaminants found offsite of the Omega Station do not warrant cleanup at this time. However, additional studies targeting PCB Aroclor 1254, barium, and manganese are justified since these were shown to pose ecological risk and could potentially have come from the Omega Station. Heeia Wetland is a dynamic environment, affected by intermittent flooding and drying. Therefore, organic contaminants may be widely dispersed. Several followup studies were recommended to help clarify the need for delineation and cleanup of contaminant hot spots caused by past activities at the Omega Station. The following general conclusions were drawn from the ecological risk assessment: The main receiving medium of concern is sediments, which may contain residual levels of contaminants transported from the Omega Station site. The primary exposure pathways are ingestion of contaminated sediment and bioaccumulation along the food web. Dieldrin was the most ubiquitous contaminant found in this study. With the highest hazard quotient and strong lines of evidence, it appeared to pose the greatest relative risk to Heeia Stream and Wetland receptors. However, the Omega Station was not shown to be a source of dieldrin contamination. The lines of evidence presented herein suggested that there is little to no risk of acute or shortterm chronic impacts to ecological receptors in Heeia Stream and Wetland. However, no predictions can be made regarding the longterm survival, growth, and reproduction of native aquatic biota, endangered waterbirds, and migratory birds.

Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident.ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. Most often, this information is plotted on 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles, although in the Alaska ESI maps, USGS topographic maps at scales of 1:63,360 and 1:250,000 are used, and in other ESI maps, NOAA charts have been used as the base map. Collections of these maps, grouped by state or a logical geographic area, are published as ESI atlases. Digital data have been published for most of the U.S. shoreline, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

Towed-diver surveys (aka. Towboard surveys) are conducted by the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED) of the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) as part of biennial Pacific Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruises. These cruises support NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) long-term goals for sustainable management and conservation of coral reef ecosystems. 12 towboard surveys (24.4912 km in length), were conducted at Maui Island in the Main Hawaiian Islands from 24 February - 6 March and 17 July - 7 Augus 2005 as part of RAMP Cruise OES0502 and HI0505. Towboard surveys are a good method for obtaining a general description of large reef areas, assessing the status of low-density populations of large-bodied reef fish, large-scale disturbances (e.g., bleaching), general distribution and abundance patterns of macro-invertebrates (e.g., COT, giant clams), and for assessing trends in these populations and metrics. A pair of scuba divers (1 fish and 1 benthic diver) are towed 60 m behind a small survey launch at a speed of 1-2 knots and a depth of approximately 15m. Each survey is 50 min long, covers about 2 km of habitat, and is divided into ten 5-minute survey segments. The fish diver records, to the lowest possible taxon, all large-bodied reef fishes (>50cmTL) seen within 5m either side and 10m in front of the towboard. Length of each individual is estimated to the nearest cm. The fish towboard is also outfitted with a forward-facing digital video camera to record the survey swath. The benthic diver records percent cover of coral and macroalgae, estimates benthic habitat type and complexity, and censuses a suite of benthic macroinvertebrates including Crown of Thorns sea stars and sea urchins. The benthic towboard is equipped with a downward-facing digital still camera which images the benthos at 15 second intervals. These images are analyzed for percent cover of coral, algae, and other benthic components. Both towboards are equipped with SEABIRD SBE-39 temperature/depth sensors set to record at 5 second intervals. Latitude and longitude of each survey track is recorded at 15 second intervals using a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver onboard the tow boat. A layback algorithm is applied to more accurately map the position of the divers with respect to the reef environment. This algorithm calculates the position of the divers based on the position of the tow boat taking into account the length of the tow rope, the depth of the divers, and the curvature of the survey track. This metadata applies to the fish biomass observations.

In the summer of 2008, the Northwest Florida Water Management District collected lidar data over a portion of Walton County, FL (Eglin Air force Base) to support various projects such as floodplain and hazards mapping, wetlands mitigation and stormwater management. The data collection occured in a portion of the county for which there is no prior collected lidar data. Used in conjunction with previously collected data in Walton County (FDEM Lidar collected in 2006), these data support the creation of a county-wide, high resolution, lidar derived digital elevation model(DEM).

This data set provides the results of analyses of Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) images for selective logging activity in the Brazilian states of Para, Mato Gross, Rondonia, Roraima, and Acre over the years 1999 through 2001. Images were analyzed using the Carnegie Landsat Analysis System (CLAS) to detect and to quantify the amount of damage due to selective logging in the major timber-production states of the Brazilian Amazon. This approach provided automated image analysis using atmospheric modeling for detection of forest canopy openings, surface debris, and bare soil exposed by forest disturbances; and pattern-recognition techniques. CLAS provides detailed measurements of forest-canopy damage at a spatial resolution of 30 x 30m. Fifteen GeoTiff format files are included -- one for each of the three years from 1999-2001 for each of the five states. Each GeoTiff is a single band image where each pixel represents if logging activity was or was not detected. A zero (0) value indicates that no logging was detected, while a value of one (1) indicates that damage from logging was detected. The 15 GeoTiff (*.tif) files have been compressed into one *.zip file.
