MBT data were collected from the USS EDMONDS and Other Platforms in support of the Fleet Observations of Oceanographic Data (FLOOD) project. Data were collected by US Navy; Ships of Opportunity and other institutions from 20 April 1962 to 02 November 1968. Platforms were equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

The data in this accession was collected in South China Sea (Nan Hai) from ship Reeves between October 1-23, 1990. The real time data of water temperature at varying depth bathythermograph (XBT) was recorded in stripcharts by the US Navy. Sixty three stripcharts and radio logs were submitted to NODC. The XBT data from these stripcharts have been digitized and is present in the current NODC data storage system in C116 file format.

In support of CAMEX-3, numerous Radiosonde and Rawinsondes were launched from Andros Island. These consisted of instruments manufactured by VIS and Vaisala. Some sondes were GPS or LORAN located so that winds aloft could be determined without ground based tracking systems. Data from the sondes was used to verify several ground based instruments observing the lower troposphere.

PALMER during cruises NBP0103, NBP0202 and NBP0204 in the South Atlantic Ocean and South Pacific Ocean from 2001-04-29 to 2002-09-07. These data include FLUORESCENCE and PHOTOSYNTHETIC ACTIVE RADIATION (PAR). The instruments used to collect these data include Fast Repetition Rate Fluorometer. These data were collected by Maria Vernet of University of California-San Diego as part of Southern Ocean GLOBEC. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NODC on 2013-07-24. The following is the text of the abstract provided by BCO-DMO: none provided.

These data support the general geospatial needs of the USGS and other federal agencies. LiDAR data is remotely sensed high-resolution elevation data collected by an airborne collection platform. By positioning laser range finding with the use of 1 second GPS with 200hz inertial measurement unit corrections, Airborne 1's LiDAR instruments are able to make highly detailed geospatial elevation products of the ground, man-made structures and vegetation. The LiDAR flightlines for this project were planned for a 50% acquisition overlap. The nominal resolution of this project without overlap is 1.203m, with a 0.90m resolution with the 50% overlap, assuming a normal distribution. Two returns were recorded for each pulse in addition to an intensity value. GPS Week Time, Intensity, Flightline and number attributes were recorded for each LiDAR point. Positional values were recorded to the centimeter level, while GPS is recorded to a 10th of a millisecond. Scan angle was recorded to the nearest angle, Intensity is recorded as a 12 Bit dynamic range value and echo is recorded as a numeric value from 0 to 256. The data was originally provided as random points, in LAS v1.1 format, classified according to the following codes: Class 1 Non-ground/Extracted Features Last Pulse Class 2 Bare Earth Ground Features Last Pulse Class 3 Extracted Features First Pulse Class 4 Bare Earth Ground Features First Pulse It should be noted that Class 3 and 4 are not ASPRS classes but since this data is a two pulse system, this is the most efficient format to separate the pulses and classification process. The data was reclassified into 2 distinct classifications: Class 1 Non-ground/Extracted Features First and Last Pulse Class 2 Bare Earth Ground Features First and Last Pulse

The project area is composed of 16 counties in the State of South Carolina - Cherokee, Union, Laurens, Greenwood, Newberry, Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Darlington, Dillon, Marion, Williamsburg, Clarendon, and Orangeburg. The project area consists of approximately 10,194 square miles including a buffer of 50 feet along the edges of the project area and an additional buffer in some areas. The project design of the lidar data acquisition was developed to support a nominal post spacing of 1.4 meters. The Fugro EarthData, Inc. acquisition team of Fugro Horizons, Inc. and North West Group acquired 721 flight lines in 44 lifts from January 15, 2008 through February 10, 2008. The data was divided into 5000' by 5000' foot cells that serve as the tiling scheme. Lidar data collection was performed with a Cessna 310 aircraft, utilizing a Leica ALS50-II MPiA sensor, collecting multiple return x, y, and z data as well as intensity data. Lidar data was processed to achieve a bare ground surface (Classes 2 and 8). Lidar data is remotely sensed high-resolution elevation data collected by an airborne collection platform. Using a combination of laser range finding, GPS positioning and inertial measurement technologies, lidar instruments are able to make highly detailed Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of the earth's terrain, man-made structures, and vegetation.
