NODC Accession 0107469 includes tows - plankton tows and biological data collected aboard the ALBATROSS IV, ENDEAVOR and OCEANUS during cruises AL9506, AL9605, AL9705, AL9801, AL9806, AL9808, AL9901, AL9904, EN261, EN263, EN265, EN276, EN278, EN282, EN320, EN322, OC275, OC298, OC300, OC301, OC302, OC303, OC317 and OC319 in the North Atlantic Ocean from 1995-02-12 to 1999-05-21. These data include SPECIES IDENTIFICATION - LIFE STAGE and TAXONOMIC CODE. The instruments used to collect these data include net. These data were collected by Maria C Casas and Ted Durbin of University of Rhode Island as part of GB. The Biological and Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office (BCO-DMO) submitted these data to NODC on 2013-04-26. The following is the text of the abstract provided by BCO-DMO: Zooplankton Meter2 Data from GSO/URI - Bongo Nets only The Zooplankton Meter2 Database for the Georges Bank GLOBEC project was originally located in the laboratory of Ted Durbin at the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island. It was accessed via the U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank data management system using SQLPlus network access to the data base management system at URI. Data were cached and are served from the local computer. A description of the original URI database is online and includes the design and variable definitions. A version of this document is shown here (http://globec.whoi.edu/globec-dir/data_doc/zoo_square_meter_URI.html). Note: Our program's Data Acknowledgement Policy (http://globec.whoi.edu/globec-dir/data-acknowledgement-policy.html) requires that any person making substantial use of a data set must communicate with the investigators who acquired the data prior to publication and anticipate that the data collectors will be co-authors of published results. The following documentation applies to the data found locally on the WHOI GLOBEC Data Server: The data is served as a hierarchy. The least changing variables are in higher order levels (e.g., cruise id, year, month, etc.), while variables that change the most are in the lower order levels (e.g., time of collection, net number, taxon collected, etc.) There are six levels within the data; variable names and descriptions are given in the metadata. Most column variable names and instrument names were taken from the U.S. GLOBEC Georges Bank data thesaurus; those that were not follow the GLOBEC data protocols. The taxonomic code variable (taxon_code) is from the National Oceanographic Data Center's Taxonomic List, version 8. Taxonomic information is built into these ten-digit codes as they reflect the systematic nomenclature. You may contact BCO-DMO for additional help.

Physical, current, meteorological, and other data were collected from XBT casts, buoys, and other instruments from a World-Wide distribution. Data were collected from 14 June 2003 to 29 August 2003. Data were submitted by the Marine Environmental Data Service (MEDS) in support of the Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography (Argo), the Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity (SOOP), and the Global Temperature-Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP). Physical parameters include profiles of temperature and salinity. Current parameters include current direction and speed. Meteorological parameters include dry bulb temperature, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity, and air pressure.

This data set contains management area data for communities, wildlife refuges, and National, State, and regional parks in Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. Vector polygons in this data set represent management areas. Location-specific type and source information is stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer. See also the SOCECON (Socioeconomic Resource Points and Lines) data layer, part of the larger Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula ESI database, for additional human-use information.This data set comprises a portion of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for Cook Inlet and Kenai Peninsula. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.

To support a long-term NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) for sustainable management and conservation of coral reef ecosystems, from 25 May - 09 June 2007, marine invertebrate quantitative assessments were conducted, as part of Rapid Ecological Assessments (REA), during the Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (RAMP) Cruise HI0703 in the Marianas Archipelago. Such cruises are conducted at biennial intervals by the Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED) at the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC). At specific reef sites, marine invertebrate zoologists along with coral and algal biologists entered the water and conducted a fine-scale (~100 m2) and high degree of taxonomic resolution benthic REA survey for coral, algae, and key invertebrate species. Invertebrate surveys were focused on quantifying key non-coral invertebrate species common to the reef habitats, and were conducted using a combination of different survey techniques to quantify the diverse communities. These methods included belt-transect surveys, roving-swim surveys, and quadrat surveys. In belt-transect surveys, quantitative counts of key invertebrates were recorded along two consecutively-placed 25m long and 2m wide belt transects (total area = 100 m2). For any species that cannot be identified in the field, a photograph and a representative specimen, if possible, is collected for later identification. Roving-swim surveys were conducted in the general area with the goal to collect qualitative data for rare, larger, and cryptic organisms, such as Crown of Thorns Starfish and Triton's Trumpet snails which may not be seen during belt-transect surveys, and to survey any additional habitats present at the site, e.g. sand, sea grass, pavement, etc. This was accomplished by swimming a zig-zag pattern that extends roughly 5 m on either side of the two transect lines (total length = 500 m). Quadrat surveys were used to quantify the smaller, more cryptic invertebrates which were sometimes overlooked or too numerous to count during belt-transect surveys. Ten 0.25-m2 quadrats were laid out at 2-m intervals along two of the 25-m transects (total area = 5 m2). For each quadrat the percent cover of sponges, octocorals and zoanthids was recorded, as well as urchins, hermit crabs of the genus Calcinus, trapezid crabs, and coralliophilid snails. In addition, up to 25 cm diameters of all urchin species are measured. Based on data from previous REA surveys, a group of target invertebrate species was chosen for quantitative counts at 3 REA sites at Guguan Island in the Marianas Archipelago. The species in the list were chosen because they have been shown to be common components of the reef habitats and they are species that are generally visible (i.e.; non-cryptic) and easily enumerated during the course of a single 50-60 minute SCUBA survey.
