The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Popis

NOAA's polar-orbiting satellites measure SST around the globe in near-real-time, and Coral Reef Watch produces a suite of products derived from this set of satellite SST and uses them to pinpoint areas around the world where corals are at risk for bleaching. This is a suite of operational products produced at 0.5 degree (approximately 50 km) spatial resolution twice-weekly. The products include nighttime sea surface temperature, nighttime sea surface temperature anomaly, coral bleaching HotSpots, and Degree Heating Weeks for the global oceans.

Popis

Terrapoint collected Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data to complete the 2005 project for Yakima County. This project has partial coverage of Yakima County, totaling 4757 sq km in southern Washington. The Airborne LiDAR survey was conducted using Terrapoint?s 40 kHz ALTMS (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapping System), flying at an optimum height of 3500 ft AGL at 140 knots. The system consists of a 36-degree full angle laser, a Trimble 4700 GPS receiver and a Honeywell H764 IMU unit. This metadata is a collaboration of ancillary reports.

Popis

Chemical, physical, profile, imagery, laboratory analysis and sediment analysis oceanographic data were collected aboard the RYAN CHOUEST in the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-10-07 to 2010-10-17 in response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill event on April 20, 2010, by the Subsurface Monitoring Unit (SMU), which consisted of multiple government and corporate agencies. These data include CDOM fluorescence, Carbon - Total Organic, Metals, Semivolatile Organic Compounds, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), Volatile Organic Compounds, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hydrostatic pressure, salinity, sediment properties, sound velocity, temperature and water density. The instruments used to collect these data included CTD, bottle, fluorometer, oxygen meter and sediment sampler - corer along with other physical sampling devices. More specific information about each data set is located in their individual metadata records. Sediment cores were analyzed for physical characteristics, and recorded in photos and data files. This data set also contains products created for use in real time analysis and decision support. These products may include charts, graphs, maps, plots, and GIS formatted data files. The CTD data underwent preliminary quality assurance and control procedures at the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC). The analytical chemistry data are provisional and provide results of onshore laboratory analysis of water and sediment samples. Cruise level information consisting of data management documents, cruise reports and plans, videos and pictures, and other miscellaneous documentation were gathered by the data managers. Popis

These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

Popis

Absolute U- and V-component ocean current vectors from Shipboard Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (SADCP), as both a high frequency sampling (nominally 5 minutes with 8 m depth bins) and an averaged subset (hourly time and 10 m depth means), are provided for the global oceans. The depth range is typically from 20 to 300 m although recent technology has allowed penetration to over 1 km. The high frequency samples along with ancillary parameters are provided in the Common Oceanographic Data Access System (CODAS) binary format. The standard (averaged) subset is stored in ASCII. This dataset represents the cruises acquired from 8 October 1993 to 16 March 2008 at the Joint Archive for SADCP, a collaboration of NOAA and the E.Firing ADCP Laboratory at the University of Hawaii. The data have been contributed by both US and international organizations. A total of 125 cruises on 13 ships (1.2 gigabytes) are included.

Popis

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The source imagery was acquired on November 23, 2009 and March 12, 2010. The true color images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 0.35 m. The original images were acquired at a higher resolution than the final ortho-rectified mosaic. Ortho-rectified mosaic tiles are an ancillary product of NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program (CMP), created through a wider Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping initiative to increase support for multiple uses of the data. These data are .tif files with associated files and Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata. Infrared (IR) orthoimagery for this region is archived at the NODC under accession number 0100232.

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative of Mississippi River - LaPlace to Venice. The source imagery was acquired on March 13, 2010, March 14, 2010 and March 15, 2010. The true color images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution than the final ortho-rectified mosaic. The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 0.35 m. Ortho-rectified mosaic tiles are not intended for mapping, charting or navigation. Ortho-rectified mosaic tiles are an ancillary product of NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program (CMP), created through a wider Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping initiative to increase support for multiple uses of the data. Additional ortho-rectified images from other regions are filed under separate NODC accession numbers.

Popis

This data set contains sensitive biological resource data for nesting birds in Northwest Arctic, Alaska. Vector points in this data set represent locations of nesting birds. Species-specific abundance, seasonality, status, life history, and source information are stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer. See also the BIRDS (Bird Polygons) data layer, part of the larger Northwest Arctic database, for additional bird information. This data set comprises a portion of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for Northwest Arctic, Alaska. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.
