Popis

Oceanographic station data were collected from the DUANE, INGHAM, and SOUTHWIND within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station B (5630N 05100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 14 August 1969 to 18 December 1969. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/sd2.html. The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

These data represent data collected from the Shipboard Environmental (data) Acquisition System (SEAS), a program developed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide accurate meteorological and oceanographic data in real time from ships at sea through the use of satellite data transmission techniques. The system transmits data through either the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) or the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT C) satellites to NOAA for use in weather, climatological and ocean models. NOAA is actively participating in an international effort to increase the number of subsurface temperature observations in support of global oceanographic and climate studies. NOAA's Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) program, SEAS, currently supports about 80 Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS). SEAS XBT data are archived by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) on a weekly basis.

Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident.ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. Most often, this information is plotted on 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles, although in the Alaska ESI maps, USGS topographic maps at scales of 1:63,360 and 1:250,000 are used, and in other ESI maps, NOAA charts have been used as the base map. Collections of these maps, grouped by state or a logical geographic area, are published as ESI atlases. Digital data have been published for most of the U.S. shoreline, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

Bathythermograph data were collected from the MCCULLOCH within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station E (3500N 04800W), H (3800N 07100W), and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 08 August 1969 to 09 September 1969. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

Observer Fixed Gear Data collected during 2002-2006 off West Coast of US. This data product originates from data collected by fishery observers in the West Coast Groundfish Observer Program (WCGOP), Fishery Resource Analysis and Monitoring Division (FRAM) at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center, NOAA Fisheries. The WCGOP's goal is to improve total catch estimates by collecting information on the discarded catch (fish returned overboard at-sea) of west coast groundfish species. All data were collected according to standard protocols and data quality control established by the WCGOP. The observed portion of overall catch or landings in a fishery varies by coverage level. Since all fishing operations are not observed, neither the maps nor the data can be used to characterize the fishery completely. This is especially true for rarely-occurring species and when observed sample sizes are small. We urge caution when utilizing these data due to the complexity of groundfish management and fleet harvest dynamics. Grid cells representing less than 3 vessels and less than 10 hauls or sets are not shown due to confidentiality and to ensure adequate sample size. In the limited-entry fixed gear fishery, species discard rates (species discard weight / groundfish total catch (discard + retained weight)) are categorized by approximate quartile ranges and geo-referenced to 20 x 20 kilometer grid cells. The observed fixed gear set location (start location of fishing) was used to allocate data to 20 x 20 kilometer grid cells for calculation. Sixteen species were represented based on combined observer data from 2002-2006. The species included in this data product are dover sole (Microstomus pacificus), sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria), longspine thornyhead (Sebastolobus altivelis), shortspine thornyhead (Sebastolobus alascanus), lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus), arrowtooth flounder (Atheresthes stomias), petrale sole (Eopsetta jordani), and the rockfishes (genus Sebastes), darkblotched rockfish (S. crameri), Pacific ocean perch (S. alutus), chilipepper (S. goodei), cowcod (S. levis), bocaccio (S. paucispinis), canary rockfish (S. pinniger), widow rockfish (S. entomelas), yelloweye rockfish (S. ruberrimus), and yellowtail rockfish (S. flavidus). Purpose: This data product was developed to provide basic groundfish discard distribution information for a wide variety of audiences. The West Coast Groundfish Observer Program conducts sampling of groundfish discarded by commercial fisheries along the entire continental U.S. West Coast. The seventeen species included in this data product are among those of most interest to the fisheries management and commercial fishing communities. This 2' surface deflection of the vertical grid for the conterminous United States is the DEFLEC96 model. The computationused about 1.8 million terrestrial and marine gravity data held in the National Geodetic Survey gravity data base in July 1996. These data were augmented by gravity data contributions from NGA (former National Imagery and Mapping Agency (former Defence Mapping Agency)). The deflections were obtained by numerical differentiation of cubic spline models along the meridians of the GEOID96 grid. The gravity values are based on theInternational Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN71). The deflections are referred to the Geodetic Reference System 1980 (GRS80) ellipsoidal normals. The deflections of the vertical incorporate the reference system relationship between NAD 83(86) and ITRF94(1996.0), the datum offset of NAVD 88, and thecontributions from 2951 GPS on leveled benchmarks. Gridded (10 m cell size) bathymetry of the slope environment of Swains Island, American Samoa, South Pacific. Almost complete bottom coverage was achieved in depths between 7 and 4800 meters (10 m grid includes data to 300 m). The bathymetry dataset includes Simrad EM300 and Reson 8101ER multibeam data collected from the 10th - 13th of February 2006.

This data set documents locations and location codes used in monk seal data collection as part of the ongoing monk seal population assessment efforts. Information includes atolls, islets within each atoll, sectors valid for each islet, and GPS coordinates. Sectors for the six main breeding locations in the NWHI were established in 1982 at the beginning of concerted data collection by this project, and have remained fairly constant with the exception of boundary changes at Lisianski and Midway in 1992, and islet coding changes at Kure in 1994. In recent years sectors have also been established for the main Hawaiian islands.

TerraPoint surveyed and created this data for the Puget Sound LiDAR Consortium under contract. The area surveyed is approximately 77 square miles and covers a portion of Yakima County, WA. All data was collected during ideal conditions (leaf-off). The LAS files were derived from all returns ASCII files contain the X,Y,Z values of all the LiDAR returns collected during the survey mission. The GPS time, scan angle, intensity classification and return numbers of each point were preserved in the conversion from ASCII to LAS. ASPRS Classifications were used: Class 1 (Unclassified) and Class 2 (Ground). Futher details are available in the Process Steps below. The NOAA Office for Coastal Management noticed that some intensity values are 0, so be aware before using the intensity information. This dataset was flown in 2003 with a 50% overlap between flight lines. Due to the overlap the nominal point spacing of the dataset is 1.0 meter.
