Description

From 6 to 26 June, six biologists made 231 observations of geese. Of this number, 43 were banded, 74 unbanded, and 114 undiscernible. From these observations it is estimated that Agattu island has a minimum Aleutian Canada goose population of 52 individuals. Eleven Aleutian Canada goose nests and one brood pair were located. A viable population of Aleutian Canada geese has been established on Agattu through transplanting birds from Buldir. The recolonization of Agattu Island by Aleutian Canada geese has been firmly established, bringing the subspecies one step closer to removal from the endangered species list.
