Description

The first chum salmon was caught on May 25 and were stilling catching them on August 23 three months later. Most of the migrants passed the study area in 2 or 3 weeks following breakup. A small secondary peaks wax noticed near the end of July. Catches per hour for traps by weekly periods ranged from 17.95 chum per hour on June 28 to 02 fish per hour during August 1824. These fish were dispersed throughout the width of the river system including main sloughs and side channels. Their distribution may have been regular in a vertical direction also. Nine hundred thirtyfour chum and 58 chinook were caught during the season by all methods Traps, fyke nets, and tow nets catch young salmon effectively on the Yukon River.
