Summary
Description
The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is one of the leading teleconnection patterns in the Northern Hemisphere circulation. It is calculated as a Rotated Principal Component Analysis (RPCA) for height anomalies poleward of 20 degrees latitude for the Northern Hemisphere. The goal of the RPCA procedure is to capture regional-scale teleconnection patterns in the circulation fields.
