Description

This dataset contains information sent to the Gambling Commission from licensing authorities detailing their gambling related licensing activity. Licensing authorities (LAs) have a statutory duty to provide specific information to the Commission about aspects of gambling regulation – for example, the grant of premises licences. The Commission collates and analyses the information it receives from LAs to help it, LAs and the Government understand the local and national landscape of gambling regulation. The Commission continues to work with licensing authorities in order to maximise the efficiency of data collection. As this is the third year of reporting we are able to provide year-on-year analysis of the data. This includes data provided by LAs who submitted previous returns late after the established deadline. As a consequence, the data provided in this report may differ from that published previously.

Description

This report presents information on the number of people who are helped to live more independently in their own homes as a result of schemes provided by voluntary and other organisations in the independent sector, through grants from Councils with Adult Social Services Responsibilities (CASSRs) in England. The schemes included in the Grant Funded Services return (GFS1) provide services that do not form part of a formal care package agreed by the council, but which are nevertheless funded with grants from social services and other council budgets. The information was collected during a survey week between the start of October and the end of November 2009. Organisations were requested to return information on all adults aged 18 and over who had received person-centred services during the survey week. They were also asked to provide details of the funding given to schemes during the financial year 2009-10, and whether it was sourced from social services budgets or other council budgets. The reported estimates of people helped are derived from the actual numbers of people helped by each scheme in the survey week, the proportion of each scheme's cost that is provided by the council and the proportion of this money that originates from social services budgets. These data are the fourth set collected since the inauguration of GFS1 in 2006/07 and the first year for which comparisons can be made against the previous year. However, due to changes in the inclusion criteria for grant funded schemes provided by organisations that occurred in the 2008-09 collection year, comparisons have not and should not be made with GFS1 data from years prior to this period.

Description

This is the second and final bi-annual analysis of the Mental Capacity Act ('The Act') Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA DoLS) Assessments in England report, covering the period October 2011 to March 2012. Future MCA DoLS data will be published on an annual basis only . An annual publication for the year 2011/12 is expected to be published in July 2012. These statistics provide official information about authorisation requests under The Act to deprive adults of their liberty and the outcome of such assessments. Data is presented by Region (former Government Office Region (GOR)) and Strategic Health Authority (SHA) and includes demographic information about people on whose behalf authorisation requests were made. The Health and Social Care Information Centre has moved from quarterly to bi-annual publications, plus an annual publication, in line with the Department of Health's DoLS publication strategy for 2011/12. This will be further reduced to one annual publication from 2012/13. About the publication DoLS were introduced in April 2009 as an amendment to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (“The Act”). The Safeguards provide a framework for approving the deprivation of liberty for people who lack the capacity to consent to treatment or care in either a hospital or care home that, in their own best interests, can only be provided in circumstances that amount to a deprivation of liberty. The safeguards legislation provides for an assessment process that must be undertaken before deprivation of liberty may be authorised . These statistics provide official information about authorisation requests under The Act to deprive adults of their liberty and the outcome of such assessments. The DoLS collection is a statutory collection. All 151 Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and 152 Local Authorities (LAs) in England are required to submit a return even if they are only submitting a nil return to inform of no use of the safeguards. Footnotes [i] One person can have multiple authorisations. [ii] Supervisory bodies (PCTs or LAs) receive authorisation requests made by managing authorities (hospitals or care homes). A hospital must gain authorisation from a PCT and a care home must gain authorisation from a LA. [iii] The length of an authorisation can be any period of up to a year for a single authorisation. A requirement to extend beyond a year requires a further authorisation

Description

This report contains results from an annual survey of secondary school pupils in England in years 7 to 11 (mostly aged 11 to 15). 6,519 pupils in 219 schools completed questionnaires in the autumn term of 2011. NatCen Social Research (NatCen) and the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) carried out the survey on behalf of the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). The Home Office and the Department for Education also have an interest in the statistics. This is the most recent survey in a series that began in 1982. Each survey since 1998 has included a core set of questions on smoking, drinking and drug use and, since 2000 the remainder of the questions have focused in alternate years on smoking and drinking or on drug use. The emphasis of the 2011 survey is on drug taking whilst still containing some information on smoking and drinking. The survey report presents information on the percentage of pupils who have ever smoked, tried alcohol or taken drugs. The report also explores the attitudes and beliefs of school children towards drug taking and from where and from whom children obtain drugs. Relationships between smoking, drinking and drug use are explored along with the links between smoking, drinking and drug use and other factors such as age, gender, ethnicity and previous truancy or exclusion. Regional data (combined for 2010 and 2011) have been included for key estimates of smoking, drinking and drug use among young people.

Description

This release presents some preliminary results from the 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey, covering Northern Ireland, England and Wales. A series of more detailed reports are due to be published in March 2011. The 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is the fifth in a series of national dental surveys that have been carried out every ten years since 1968. The 2009 survey was commissioned by the NHS Information Centre for health and social care and was conducted on behalf of the Department of Health in England, the Welsh Assembly Health Department, and the Department of Health and Personal Social Services in Northern Ireland. The survey was carried out in England, Wales and Northern Ireland only: Scotland decided not to participate in the 2009 survey. The survey consisted of a questionnaire interview with all adults aged over 16 years at all sampled households, and an oral examination of the mouth and teeth of all those adults who had at least one natural tooth. The survey was managed by the Office for National Statistics working in consortium with the National Centre for Social Research, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, and dental experts from the Universities of Birmingham, Cardiff, Dundee, Newcastle, and University College London. The sample size for the survey was 13,400 households (1,150 in each English Strategic Health Authority and Wales, and 750 households in Northern Ireland). Data collection for the survey took place between October 2009 and April 2010, and the final household interview response rate was 60 per cent. A total of 11,380 individuals were interviewed, and 6,469 dentate adults were examined, making this the largest ever epidemiological survey of adult dental health in the United Kingdom.

The 2009 Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) is the fifth in a series of national dental surveys that have been carried out every decade since 1968. The main purpose of these surveys has been to get a picture of the dental health of the adult population and how this has changed over time.
