Description

The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The file is georeferenced to earth's surface using the State Plane projection and coordinate system. The specifications for the horizontal control of DFIRM data files are consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12000.

Description

This dataset is comprised of a single aerial image of a single area on Alaska's Arctic Coastal Plain taken on 21 June 1955 by the U.S. Air Force and obtained from the USGS EROS data center via the EarthExplorer website in 2013. The image represents an historical snapshot of the landscape from that time. The image was scanned and geo-referenced to various contemporary (2002-2010) satellite imagery using tie-point methods and splines for interpolation.

Description

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) is responsible for typhoon forecasts and warnings for the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean basins. After each storm, the JTWC stores its records in accordion-style folders, or “wallets.” Facing prohibitive storage costs and space constraints for historical wallets, the JTWC contacted CDMP to inquire about storage of this one-of-a-kind data. There are 1,523 wallets in the collection, spanning four cyclone basins in the period 1966-1994. NCDC received these wallets in August of 2009, and ingested them into their physical archives. Around 70 wallets were scanned and uploaded to the library.

Description

The Color Shaded Relief of the Conterminous United States map layer is a 100-meter resolution color-sliced elevation image of the United States, with relief shading added to accentuate terrain features, in an Albers Equal-Area Conic projection. The image was produced by combining the 100-meter resolution color-sliced elevation and the grayscale shaded relief data sets that are distributed by the National Atlas of the United States. The color shaded relief data were derived from the National Atlas 100-meter resolution elevation data. The elevation data were derived from National Elevation Dataset (NED) data and show the terrain of the conterminous United States at a resolution of 100 meters. The NED is a raster product assembled by the U.S. Geological Survey, designed to provide national elevation data in a seamless form with a consistent datum, elevation unit, and projection. Data corrections made in the NED assembly process minimize artifacts, permit edge matching, and fill sliver areas of missing data. More information on NED can be found at http://ned.usgs.gov.

Terrain data, as defined in FEMA Guidelines and Specifications, Appendix M: Data Capture Standards, describe the digital topographical data that were used to create the elevation data representing the terrain environment of a watershed and/or floodplain. Terrain data requirements allow for flexibility in the types of information provided as sources used to produce the final terrain deliverables. Once this type of data is provided, FEMA will be able to account for the origins of the flood study elevation data (Source: FEMA Guidelines and Specifications, Appendix M, Section N.1.2)

This dataset has been developed for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management (OCM) as a collaborative and cooperative project with the California State Coastal Conservancy (SCC) on behalf of the Ocean Protection Council (OPC) to collect and delineate habitat data in the San Francisco Bay area. Data is intended for use in coastal management decision making, including applications such as sea level rise. The mission of the Center is to support the environmental, social, and economic well-being of the coast by linking people, information, and technology.

WEVRS was a Voting Rights Database that contained the names and addresses of voters listed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) between 1965 and 1983 under the Voting Rights Act. This application was discontinued and removed as OPM no longer uses it nor has authority to maintain these lists. It contains information protected by the Privacy Act and personally identifiable information (PII) and currently only consists of two CDs located in Merit System Accountability & Compliance (MSAC) as the paper version of these documents are now in the possession of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). WEVRS was a Web-Enabled database of the records in those paper documents.

Description

This data set consists of digitized water-level elevation contours for the Rush Springs aquifer in western Oklahoma. This area encompasses all or part of Blaine, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Grady, Stephens, and Washita Counties. The water-level elevation data set was created to be used as input into a computer model to simulate the ground-water flow in the Rush Springs aquifer. In the ground-water flow model, Mark F. Becker (U.S. Geological Survey, written commun., 1997) defined the Rush Springs aquifer to include the Rush Springs Formation, alluvial and terrace deposits along major streams, and parts of the Marlow Formations, particularly in the eastern part of the aquifer boundary area. The Permian-age Rush Springs Formation consists of highly cross-bedded sandstone with some interbedded dolomite and gypsum. The Rush Springs Formation is overlain by Quaternary-age alluvial and terrace deposits that consist of unconsolidated clay, silt, sand, and gravel. The Rush Springs Formation is underlain by the Permian-age Marlow Formation that consists of interbedded sandstones, siltstones, mudstones, gypsum-anhydrite, and dolomite beds. The parts of the Marlow Formation that have high permeability and porosity are where the Marlow Formation is included as part of the Rush Springs aquifer (Mark F. Becker, written commun., 1997). The Rush Springs aquifer underlies about 2,400 square miles of western Oklahoma and is an important source of water for irrigation, livestock, industrial, municipal, and domestic use. Irrigation wells are reported to have well yields greater than 1,000 gallons per minute (Mark F. Becker, written commun., 1997). The water-level elevation data set was prepared at a scale of 1:250,000 by Mark F. Becker (written commun., 1997) from water levels measured in wells prior to the year 1950 that represented "pre-development" water-level conditions. Pre-development is a term used to indicate a time before many irrigation wells were constructed in the Rush Springs aquifer. The digital data set contains water-level elevations that range from 1,200 to 1,850 feet above sea level or the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) (Mark F. Becker, written commun., 1997).

Description

This dataset consists of CRAMP surveys taken in 1999-2001 and includes quantitative estimates of substrate type, species type, and percent coverage. Fish data are included in a separate submission. The types and coverages were derived objectively from photographic images using PointCount99, a software package which analyzes random points on images of coral reefs and substrate. This dataset does not include the images from video transects however these have been provided to NOAA separately. Photoquadrats are not included in this set. There are 32 survey sites, with 27 of these having both a shallow and deep transect. These sites are located on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Kahoolawe, and Hawaii. Typically, one sampling date was made for each site per year. Annual surveys are scheduled at these sites and additional sites through at least 2002. This dataset replaces datasets previously given to NODC with NODC Accessions Numbers 0000757 and 0000513.
