The Unsatisfied Basic Needs dataset consists of measures of household level wellbeing and access to basic needs (such as adequate housing conditions, water, electricity, sanitation, education, and employment) for subnational administrative units of numerous countries in Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. The data products include shapefiles (vector data) and tabular datasets (csv format). Additionally, a data catalog (xls format) containing detailed information and documentation is provided. This dataset is produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT). (Suggested Usage: To provide high spatial resolution subnational estimates of unsatisfied basic needs for use by a wide community for interdisciplinary studies of poverty, inequality and the environment.)

Honeybee Robotics therefore proposed to develop a software tool for facilitating prospecting and excavation system trades in support of selecting an optimal architecture for the Moon. The tool could serve as a starting platform for excavation software for Mars or asteroids. The tool will provide engineers with the ability to quickly examine "What if?" scenarios within a trade space by specifying a surface system architecture (e.g. lander or rover based, digging for ice or building burms) and receiving reliable data and graphs evaluating that architecture's performance in terms relevant metrics, such as total energy used or total duration. The proposed software aims to be (a) user friendly, (b) relevant to NASA excavation priorities (xPRP: digging icy regolith for ISRU or LSS: outpost preparation), and (c) accurate for lunar excavation (equations verified by testing in relevant environment and scaled for gravity).

These data present a ground-water inventory of existing geospatial data and other information needed to determine the extent and characteristics of the aquifers in the Tahoe Basin. Geospatial and other data include geologic maps and soil surveys of the entire basin and for specific watersheds within the basin at the best available scales; vegetation remote-sensing datasets; well information from various local, state, and federal agencies; geophysical surveys; and results of available ground-water studies. The compilation and development of a ground-water inventory geospatial database will assist the United States Forest Service in better assessing the present and future impacts on ground-water resources within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The National Marine Sanctuary Program (NMSP) updates and revises the management plans for each of its 13 sanctuaries. This process, which is open to the public, enables each site to revisit the reasons for sanctuary designation and assess whether they are meeting their goals, as well as to set new goals consistent with the mandates of the National Marine Sanctuaries Act. Issues raised by the public during this process are evaluated and a determination is made as to whether they will be incorporated into the updated plan. Many of these issues focus on topics such as the implementation of marine zoning or sanctuary boundary adjustments, both of which require information on the distribution of resources within and around the sanctuary. Recognizing this, NMSP and NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) formalized an agreement to collaborate in the revision process by developing such information through a series of biogeographic assessments conducted in selected sanctuaries. The resulting products are then supplied to sanctuary managers and staff for use in the policy and decision making process. This collaborative effort began along the west coast of the U.S. with the Cordell Bank, Gulf of Farallones, and Monterey Bay national marine sanctuaries, and is herein centered on the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS).

The color conterminous United States shaded relief data were derived from National Elevation Dataset (NED) data, and show the terrain of the conterminous United States at a resolution of 200 meters. The NED is a raster product assembled by the U.S. Geological Survey, designed to provide national elevation data in a seamless form with a consistent datum, elevation unit, and projection. Data corrections made in the NED assembly process minimize artifacts, permit edge matching, and fill sliver areas of missing data. The National Atlas also includes a Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area projection shaded relief file; this file is the same data in an Albers projection.

The Glacier Photograph Collection is a database of photographs of glaciers from around the world, some dating back to the mid-1850's, that provide an historical reference for glacier extent. As of June 2015, the database contains over 15,000 photographs.NSIDC houses thousands of photographic prints of glaciers taken from the ground, the air, and from space. These photographs constitute an important historical record, as well as a data collection of interest to those studying the response of glaciers to climate change. NSIDC partnered with the NOAA Climate Database Modernization Program (CDMP) and the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) to digitize selected photographs and make them available through a searchable interface.Most of the photographs are of glaciers in the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Greenland. However, the collection does include a smaller number of photos of glaciers in Europe, South America, the Himalayas, and Antarctica. The photos are available online via a searchable interface and are retrievable by glacier name, photographer name, date, country, state, and geographic coordinates.

This is a simplified (aka generalized or smoothed) version of the detailed Large Scale International Boundaries (LSIB) dataset. This dataset included simplified LSIB polygons for Africa & the Americas. Another dataset covers Eurasia & Oceania. This dataset also matches the simplified LSIB lines. The simplified boundary lines reflect all current US government policies on boundaries, boundary disputes, and sovereignty. This dataset excludes medium and smaller islands. These islands, plus two and three-digit ISO codes, can be found in the full resolution LSIB polygon dataset. These files utilize the World Vector Shoreline (WVS) coastline data from NGA. WVS is outdated and often shifted by several hundred meters to over a km. There are no restrictions on use of this public domain data. This dataset will be updated as needed and is current as of January 23, 2015. <p>Gesture commanding can be applied and evaluated with NASA robot systems. Application of this input modality can improve the way crewmembers interact with robots during EVA.</p><p>Gestures commands allow a human operator to directly interact with a robot without the use of intermediary hand controllers.  There are two main types of hand gesture interfaces: data glove-based devices and computer vision techniques. Data glove-based devices are worn by the human and capture hand movements through embedded sensors. Computer vision techniques interpret hand movements by using the video feed from cameras. There is a need to assess the feasibility of using both approaches when the person commanding a robot is wearing EVA gloves. This is because EVA gloves can restrict movements of the hand and affect gesture recognition accuracy and recognition speed.</p>

Scientists within the ACCRETE (Acidification, Climate, and Coral Reef Ecosystems Team) Lab of AOML_s Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystems Division (OCED) have constructed a tool to monitor ocean acidification over the wider Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. This tool utilizes satellite data and a data-assimilative hybrid model to map the components of the carbonate system of surface water. This effort represents an update to the experimental Ocean Acidification Product Suite (OAPS) developed by Coral Reef Watch (http://coralreefwatch.noaa.gov/satellite/oa/index.php). To resolve the seawater carbonic acid system, we use the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) and pH. Surface pCO2 is approximated by taking total tropospheric column CO2 from the AIRS mid-tropospheric CO2 and AMSU instruments on board the Aqua satellite (http://disc.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/AIRS/data-holdings/by-data-product-v5/AIRX3C2M) and adjusting it for the marine boundary layer by replacing the annual cycle of the observed AIRS data with that from the NOAA Marine Boundary Layer (http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/ccgg/mbl/). Following this adjustment, seawater pCO2 is estimated using an empirical model relating the differential between sea surface and atmospheric CO2 partial pressure to changes in CO2 gas solubility (K0). Total alkalinity (TA) is calculated using the Subtropical/Tropical algorithm from Lee et al. (2006). Sea surface temperature is derived from an optimal interpolated product at 9km resolution (http://www.remss.com/measurements/sea-surface-temperature/oisst-description) and salinity is obtained from a data-assimilative hybrid model (HYCOM https://hycom.org/). These measurements, together with pCO2 and TA, allow calculation the complete carbonate system. Data are updated monthly at a 9km resolution. Initial results indicate good agreement with observed values from cruises and MAPCO2 buoys, but further testing and refinement of algorithms is planned.

This dataset contains geochemical data for soils collected in the United States and analyzed in the analytical laboratories of the Geologic Division of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). These data represent analyses of soil samples collected in support of various USGS programs. The data were originally entered into the in-house PLUTO database which was used by the Geologic Division from the mid- 1970's through the mid-1990's to archive geochemical data.
