Description

This dataset consists of digital still images taken during CRAMP Rapid Assessment Transect surveys taken in 2006 and includes images of substrate type and species. Eight sites near Maui were surveyed in 2006. Surveys typically consist of shallow (~3m) and deep (~10m) lines. Substrate types, coverages and species identifications were derived objectively from photographic images using PhotoGrid, a software package which analyzes random points on images of coral reefs and substrate. This dataset does not include quantitative estimates of substrate or species identification data. Quantitative estimates of substrate and species identification data related to the still images in this data collection are accessible in NODC Accession 0039383 at http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/accession/0039383. Purpose: To understand the ecology of Hawaiian coral reefs in relation to other geographic areas and to monitor change at each given site.
