NOAA CoastWatch distributes science quality wind stress data in zonal, meridional, modulus, and wind stress curl sets. This data begins with wind velocity measurements from the SeaWinds instrument onboard NASA's QuikSCAT satellite. SeaWinds is a microwave scatterometer designed to measure surface winds over the global ocean. NOAA CoastWatch processes wind velocity to wind stress and wind stress curl.

The source imagery was acquired from 20110217 - 20110217. The images were acquired with an Applanix Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution than the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Brown during the "Expedition to the Deep Slope 2007" expedition sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Ocean Exploration and the Minerals Management Service (MMS), June 4 through July 6, 2007. This track was based on the hourly ship's position from the Shipboard Computer System (SCS) navigation system.

The data was collected between January 7, 1979 and December 11, 1979 by Brazilian Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation. Original data was submitted by Capt. Frenando Baumeier. Ocean Station Data has been processed by NODC and is available as C116 Bathythermograph data.
