This project is a cooperative effort between the National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment, the University of Hawaii, BAE Systems Spectral Solutions and Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLC. The goal of the work was to map the coral reef habitats of the Main Eight Hawaiian Islands by visual interpretation and manual delineation of IKONOS and Quick Bird satellite imagery.A two tiered habitat classification system was tested and implemented in this work. It integrates geomorphologic reef structure and biological cover into a single scheme and subsets each into detail. It also includes fourteen zones.

NODC Accession 0116958 includes chemical, optical and other data collected aboard the MELVILLE during cruise MV1105 in the North Pacific Ocean and South Pacific Ocean from 2011-04-29 to 2011-05-28. These data include Attenuation/Transmission, CONDUCTIVITY, CURRENT SPEED - EAST/WEST COMPONENT (U), CURRENT SPEED - NORTH/SOUTH COMPONENT (V), DEPTH - BOTTOM, DEPTH - OBSERVATION, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, SALINITY, WATER TEMPERATURE and surface irradiance. The instruments used to collect these data include ADCP, CTD, GPS, PAR Sensor, echo sounder, oxygen meter and transmissometer. These data were collected by Craig Kohler of US DOC; NOAA; NWS; National Data Buoy Center, and by University of California - San Diego; Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART). The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) submitted these data to NODC as part of the NSF sponsored Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program. The CTD data submitted by the originator represent the raw data suite. Processed versions of the data were generated by NODC. The ADCP data represent the raw and automated processed data set. Post processed quality assessed data are not available in this accession.

XBT data were collected from the NOAA Ship DELAWARE II in support of the Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS). Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) from 04 May 1977 to 30 June 1977. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.

NODC Accession 0114242 includes fish examination and biological data collected aboard the CHARTER/FISHING BOATS during cruises FR0206-01, FR0206-02, FR0208, SE0005 and SE0007 in the North Pacific Ocean from 2000-05-29 to 2002-08-18. These data include INDIVIDUAL FISH EXAMINATION - WEIGHT, SPECIES IDENTIFICATION, SPECIES IDENTIFICATION - LIFE STAGE and SPECIES IDENTIFICATION - SEX. The instruments used to collect these data include trawl. These data were collected by Suzan S Pool of Oregon State University and Richard D Brodeur and Robert L Emmett of Northwest Fisheries Science Center - Newport as part of NEP.
