Summary
Description
This georeferenced image represents 10 meter resolution bathymetry of a portion of the NPS's Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Reserve, north of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in the US Virgin Islands from 2/1/05 to 2/12/05. Data was acquired with a pole-mounted Reson 8101 ER multibeam echosounder (240 kHz) and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS v5.4 software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface -akin to a DTM- based on swath angle. Within CARIS, an imagery file with associated georeferencing was then exported from the BASE surface. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

Summary
Description
The National Water Level Observation Network (NWLON) is a network of long-term water level stations operated and maintained by CO-OPS. NWLON stations are located on shore-based platforms, and primarily collect real-time water level measurements. As of January 2013, approximately 180 of 210 NWLON stations also collect real-time meteorological data. About 20 CO-OPS Physical Oceanographic Real-Time Systems (PORTS) comprise a group of water level stations, and 65 of these stations also collect real-time meteorological data. Data parameters include barometric pressure, wind direction, speed and gust, air temperature, and water temperature.

POPs in Prey of Killer Whales (Regional patterns of persistent organic pollutants of five Pacific salmon species (Oncorhynchus spp): implications as a food supply to southern resident killer whales (Orcinus orca) and other apex predators)
Published By National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce
Issued mehr als 9 Jahre ago
Summary
Description
The purpose of this project is to assess the extent to which persistent organic pollutants (POPs) accumulate in adult Pacific salmon, with emphasis on Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) and the potential adverse effects these contaminants pose to the health of southern resident killer whales (SRKW). The Ecotoxicology Program, in collaboration with the Environmental Assessment Program and staff from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, is conducting a coast-wide assessment of POPs in five species of Pacific salmon over the geographic range where they would be routinely encountered by resident killer whales. Concentrations of six classes of POPs have been measured in Chinook salmon from six populations originating from streams along the West Coast of North America, ranging from northern British Columbia to Puget Sound and northern California. Additionally, major population-complexes or multiple, geographically-separated population-complexes of sockeye (O. nerka), coho (O. kisutch), pink (O. gorbuscha) and chum salmon (O. keta) were sampled to provide a comparison of POPs among Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.). Major findings will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal. The Northwest Regional Office of Protected Resources uses this information to assess the threat that contaminants pose for southern resident killer whales and to guide recovery efforts for reducing whales' contaminant exposure. This project was originally designed as a stand-alone project; however, additional Chinook salmon populations were sampled recently, and will be incorporated into the analyses. The project is one component of a larger Killer Whale Prey project that assesses the quality of prey of southern resident killer whales in terms of their contaminants and energetic content. Measures organic pollutants in prey of killer whales, with particular emphasis on Chinook salmon and other species of Pacific salmon.

Year 2000 status of coral reefs on the main volcanic islands of American Samoa: a resurvey of long term monitoring sites including benthic communities, fish communities, and key micro invertebrates (NODC Accession 0001976)

Issued mehr als 9 Jahre ago
Summary
Description
This study demonstrates the important role that long term monitoring programs can play in understanding the natural variability and long term trends in the coral reefs of American Samoa. One benefit of this study is that it provides an overview of the condition of the reefs on all the main volcanic islands simultaneously. It also provides a broad scale perspective for understanding the results of the site dedicated monitoring programs in Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Pago Pago Harbour (Aua transect: see below), which provide a much longer term perspective on the reefs of Tutuila (85 and 25 years respectively). This dataset includes the status report (PDF and MS Word) and raw survey data (MS Excel) made in 1996 and 2002. Survey sites include all islands of American Samoa, although remote atolls of Swains and Rose were not made in 2002. Surveys were also made in the country of Western Samoa.

Summary
Description
The Monitoring Section of the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Clean Water Branch collected water quality samples at six sites near the mouth of streams and from the surf line along Bellows Beach, Oahu, Hawaii using well-established instruments and methodologies. This dataset spans 1992-1999. This was a special project beyond the routine state-wide monitoring program.
