Micro-resistojets offer an excellent combination of simplicity, performance and wet system mass for small satellites (<100 kg, <50 watts) requiring mN level propulsion and low to moderate delta V (<500 m/sec). In Phase I, the potential of a unique micro-resistojet concept suited for low power level was established , and "green" methanol, cracked thermally (without a catalyst) was identified as the propellant of choice. An Isp of 250 seconds is expected. The overall objective of the Phase II Program is to develop an Engineering Model (EM) of the "green" methanol/water fueled micro-resistojet system. The system will be as near as possible to a flight system without having specific mission requirements and will utilize off the shelf power processing components and Lab View software to simulate flight system components in order to minimize cost. Target design specifications for the system are: Thrust - 5.4*10-3 newtons; Specific Impulse - 250 seconds; Mass flow - 2.2*10-3 grams/second (0.167 ccm liquid); Input Power - Less than 20 watts including losses; and Operating Life ? 1000 hours. The EM will be delivered to NASA at the conclusion of Phase II following a 100 hour sustained test at Busek.

This document covers a series of analyses to explore and summarize previous monitoring efforts of Stephens Kangaroo Rats SKR and make recommendations for future monitoring and management. This report reviewed a large amount of data collected from 1989 2001 provided to us by USFWS. Data related to the estimation of population parameters at the scale of individual sites or trapping grids, and to the estimation of population trends across space and through time as it relates to understanding overall population trends within a reserve was analyzed. Next a series of recommendations regarding 1 a monitoring protocol for collecting data synchronously across all reserves for use in refining and updating a reservewide monitoring program and, 2 collecting additional information about biological processesmechanisms responsible for SKR population dynamics, follows.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP), is producing detailed geologic maps of the coastal sea floor. Bathymetry and sidescan-sonar imagery, originally collected by NOAA for charting purposes, provide a fundamental framework for research and management activities in Long Island Sound, shows the composition and terrain of the seabed, and provides information on sediment transport and benthic habitat. During April-May 2009 NOAA completed hydrographic survey H12013 offshore of the entrance to the Connecticut River, and during November 2009 and April 2010 bottom photographs and surficial sediment data were acquired as part of two ground-truth reconnaissance surveys of this area. Two interpretive data layers were derived from the multibeam echo-sounder and the ground-truth data used to verify them. Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) maps are an integral component in oil-spill contingency planning and assessment. They serve as a source of information in the event of an oil spill incident. ESI maps contain three types of information: shoreline habitats (classified according to their sensitivity to oiling), sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. Most often, this information is plotted on 7.5 minute USGS quadrangles, although in the Alaska ESI maps, USGS topographic maps at scales of 1:63,360 and 1:250,000 are used, and in other ESI maps, NOAA charts have been used as the base map. Collections of these maps, grouped by state or a logical geographic area, are published as ESI atlases. Digital data have been published for most of the U.S. shoreline, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

A finite element based model will be developed and validated to capture the evolution of residual stresses and cold work at machined features of compressor and turbine powder metallurgy superalloy disks. The focus will be to quantify, model and validate residual stress and cold work evolution at stress concentration features during simulated service in aerospace gas turbine engine disk materials. This will be accomplished by first utilizing existing NASA Test data. If the existing test data are insufficient, a minimum number of specimens will be tested if the resources permit. These specimens will have varied surface finish conditions to be determined in consultation with NASA personnel and will be tested using a thermal mechanical load history that will simulate the operating conditions of new generation of gas turbine engines and include the effect of superimposed dwell cycles. The deliverables will include effects of service history on residual stress and cold work depth profile evolutions within notches, and analytical modeling descriptions of the evolution of these parameters as a function of simulated service history. Also included will be models and algorithms extrapolating the predicted residual stresses and cold work to service conditions outside of those tested during the program.

This data set contains commercial fisheries in South Florida. Vector polygons in this data set represent statistical reporting grids used to aggregate commercial fishing data. Species-specific landings, catch per unit effort (CPUE), value, fishing seasons, and fishery types are stored in a relational data table designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer. This data set comprises a portion of the ESI data for South Florida. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. See also the data layers Fish (Fish Polygons), MGT (Management Area Polygons), and SOCECON (Socioeconomic Resource Points and Lines), part of the larger South Florida ESI database, for additional fisheries and human-use information.

Crew behavioral health and performance are of high importance, especially for long duration exploration missions. Early detection of stress and effective options for restoration and enhancement of behavioral health are imperative for accomplishment of mission objectives and for maintaining a productive spaceflight environment. To address the behavioral health issues during exploration missions, the NASA Behavioral Health and Performance Program Element (BHP) is looking for a non-invasive technology that would unobtrusively, and with minimal crew time and effort: monitor physiological markers of stress; offer countermeasures for maintenance and restoration of behavioral health; and identify methods to prevent decrements in behavioral health. The primary goal of this project is the development of a tool to provide Behavioral Monitoring and Evaluation for the Delivery of Interactive Cognitive behavioral therapy (B-MEDIC). During Phase I we will provide an analysis of measures and technologies for physiologically monitoring, assessing and treating stress; and provide requirements for the technological enhancements necessary to produce B-MEDIC. By the end of Phase II, our multi-disciplinary team proposes to develop a functioning prototype of B-MEDIC to address the following gaps outlined in the BHP Integrated Research Plan (July 2010): BMED1, BMED2, and BMED6. This set of slides graphically illustrates the potential danger that major earthquakes pose to school structures and to the children and adults who happen to be inside at the time of the earthquake. It includes pictures from 1886 to 1988. The set includes nine destructive earthquakes that occurred in the U.S. and eight earthquakes that occurred in foreign countries. These unusual slides show earthquake damage to school s and university buildings around the world. They graphically illustrate the potential danger to our schools, and to the welfare of our children, that results from major earthquakes. The slides range from Algeria, where a collapsed school roof is held up only by students' desks; to Anchorage, Alaska, where an elementary school structure has split in half; to California and other areas, where school buildings have sustained damage to walls, roofs, and chimneys. Interestingly, all the United States earthquakes depicted in this set of slides occurred either on a holiday or before or after school hours, except the 1935 tremor in Helena, Montana, which occurred at 11:35 a.m. It undoubtedly would have caused casualties had the schools not been closed days earlier by Helena city officials because of a damaging foreshock. Students in Algeria, the People's Republic of China, Armenia, and other stricken countries were not so fortunate. This set of slides represents 17 destructive earthquakes that occurred in 9 countries, and covers more than a century--from 1886 to 1988. Two of the tremors, both of which occurred in the United States, were magnitude 8+ on the Richter Scale, and four were magnitude 7-7.9. The events represented by the slides (see table below) claimed more than a quarter of a million lives. List Of Earthquakes represented in the slide set are: Algeria: El Asnam, Armenian SSR: Spitak, Australia: Cadoux, Ecuador: Esmeraldas, Mexico: Veracruz, People's Republic of China: Tangshan, Peru: Lima, Turkey: Lice, USA: Alaska: Anchorage, California: San Francisco, Long Beach, Kern County, Coalinga, Montana: Hebgen Lake, Helena, South Carolina: CharlestonIn the following descriptions of earthquakes the location is only approximate. The damage is in millions of U.S. dollars.

Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST) proposes to build a scalable, adaptable, and interoperable information processing and delivery infrastructure that will provide near-real-time access to satellite data from the National Polar-Orbiting Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Preparatory Project (NPP), its follow-on the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), and other near-real-time observations to modelers, forecasters, and decision-makers. Thanks to distributed Direct Broadcast facilities, a streamlined processing chain, and a scalable cloud computing environment, we propose to build technology that will reduce the latency in NPP data delivery to end-users from several hours to several minutes. Our proposed activity would serve near-real-time NPP, JPSS, and other data for the area within an antenna's satellite footprint via industry-standard Web-services, so as to maximize the use of these data by a broad set of users.

A coastal vulnerability index (CVI) was used to map the relative vulnerability of the coast to future sea-level rise within The National Park of American Samoa . The CVI ranks the following in terms of their physical contribution to sea-level rise-related coastal change: geomorphology, regional coastal slope, rate of relative sea-level rise, historical shoreline change rates, mean tidal range and mean significant wave height. The rankings for each input variable were combined and an index value calculated for 500-meter grid cells covering the park. The CVI highlights those regions where the physical effects of sea-level rise might be the greatest. This approach combines the coastal system's susceptibility to change with its natural ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions, yielding a quantitative, although relative, measure of the park's natural vulnerability to the effects of sea-level rise. The CVI and the data contained within this dataset provide an objective technique for evaluation and long-term planning by scientists and park managers.
