The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

This personal geodatabase contains raster images of turbidity in the Gulf of Maine. These raster images are a composite of several years (1997-2005) binned by season or by month, and were calculated as means or as medians. For those images binned by month, all of the months for the time series were averaged together to make one mean image. For example, Jan '98, Jan '99, Jan 00, Jan 01, Jan 02, Jan 03, Jan 04 = Grand Monthly Mean for January. For those images binned by season, the seasons were defined as the following: 1) Fall= September, October, November; 2) Winter= December, January, February; 3) Spring= March, April, May; 4) Summer= June, July, August. All chlorophyll geotifs binned by year and season were then averaged again to create a grand mean for each season. For example, spring '98, spring '99, spring 00, spring 01, spring 02, spring 03, spring 04 = Grand Seasonal Mean for Spring. These images were also reprocessed to remove land and no data values (value = 252 and value = 0, 253, 251 respectively), as well as to calculate the real world values for turbidty in inverse steradians.

Bottle and other data were collected from the East Coast of the US and Canada from 14 April 1973 to 16 November 1980. Data were collected by the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of the Ecology of Sea (UkrSCES) and include profiles of temperature, salinity, and oxygen concentration. Additional funding for digitizing historic data were provided by the Global Ocean Data Archaeology and Rescue (GODAR) project.

This project is a cooperative effort between the National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment, the University of Hawaii, BAE Systems Spectral Solutions and Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLC. The goal of the work was to map the coral reef habitats of the Main Eight Hawaiian Islands by visual interpretation and manual delineation of IKONOS and Quick Bird satellite imagery.A two tiered habitat classification system was tested and implemented in this work. It integrates geomorphologic reef structure and biological cover into a single scheme and subsets each into detail. It also includes fourteen zones.

Popis
Wind wave spectra and meteorological data were collected from the East/West coasts of US, South Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and the Great Lakes. Data were collected from 116 buoys with surface and subsurface sensors from 01 March 2001 to 31 March 2001. Data were supplied by the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) as a F291 file type. Station identifier, position, date, time, sampling duration and sampling rate are reported for each series of measurements. Reported meteorological parameters may include air temperature and pressure, dew point, wind speed and direction, wind gust, visibility, precipitation and solar radiation. Ocean surface data may include water temperature and salinity (or conductivity), significant wave height and steepness. Subsurface temperature, salinity, conductivity, pressure, and east and north current components may also be reported. Wave data may be reported as spectral density values or (for directional spectra) as co- and quad-spectra or angular Fourier coefficients.
