Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the MARINE EVANGELINE and other platforms from 11 October 1978 to 11 November 1978. Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to be obtained to 1830 m.

CRED shallow Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) casts are vertical profiles (max 30 meter depth, downcast only) of temperature, conductivity and pressure. Data are collected at select nearshore locations, both around islands or banks and within lagoons. Data processing was performed using Seabird Instrument's SeaSoft SBE Data Processing Software (http://www.seabird.com/software/SBEDataProcforWindows.htm). Data format is discreet, tabular (formatted, space delimited ASCII) files for each profile, with a full header as provided by SeaSoft. Raw file extension is HEX, processed file extension is CNV. The header contains latitude, longitude and other location information, as well as all data processing steps and settings. All dates and times are UTC. All positions are WGS84 decimal degrees. Contact Coral Reef Ecosystem Division (CRED), NOAA Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center for more information. http://www.pifsc.noaa.gov/cred/oceanography.php

Bottle and other data were collected from the North Pacific Ocean from 29 September 1987 to 22 November 1987. Data were collected by the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of the Ecology of Sea (UkrSCES) and include temperature, salinity, and oxygen profiles. Additional funding for digitizing historic data were provided by the Global Ocean Data Archaeology and Rescue (GODAR) project.

This dataset contains an ESRI Grid with 3 meter cell size representing the bathymetry of the north shore of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico from 3/21/06 to 4/2/06. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 multibeam echosounder (95 kHz) and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. An ASCII XYZ file was exported from the BASE surface and opened in ESRI ArcMap 9.1 as an XY event. Then the ArcToolbox conversion tool 'Feature to Raster' was used to generate the final ESRI Grid. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

This system was designed to help DMWR computerize sport fishing tournament data on participation and catches. However, it was never fully developed and it is uncertain what data may have actually been put into a database (need to verify). These data would have been collected by DMWR and only for local fishing, probably within 30 miles of Tutuila and primarily for pelagic species. The data are considered confidential.

Current and other data were collected from meters attached to fixed platforms in the North Pacific by the University of Alaska - Fairbanks; Institute of Marine Science (UAK/IMS). Data were collected as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP) from 12 November 1977 to 01 May 1978. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F015 Current Meter Components format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f015.html. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F015 format contains time series measurements of ocean currents. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record includes values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10 - 15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure and conductivity or salinity may also be reported. A text record is available for optional comments.

The source of this dataset is the reports provided by the 2 canneries in American Samoa to the local fisheries agency DMWR which does all the data processing for the dataset. It consists of the vessel names, dates of offloading, and weight of the major species of fish unloaded for the major longline fisheries at the canneries. Our database captures only the offloading data for U.S. flagged longline vessels from 1982 to present and continuing. The area where fish occurred is not part of the data set. These data are considered highly confidential.

Boat based creel survey data have been collected and processed by the American Samoa Dept. of Marine and Wildlife Resources (DMWR) staff since about 1982 and are continuing. Creel surveys consist of 2 major sub-surveys, one to identify the level of fishing participation for each fishing method used in the Territory, and one to determine the catch rate, species composition, and sizes of fish (and invertebrates) for each fishing method and fishing sector. The most structured and consistent surveys have been conducted on the main island of Tutuila and there are also some less robust data for the Manu?a islands. Boat-based surveys are access-point surveys and include all major and some minor ports and marinas where fishing boats launch or are berthed. Fishing areas are limited to the areas around American Samoa as boats included in these surveys are generally less than about 40 feet. These data are considered confidential.
