This Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) LAS dataset is a topographic survey conducted for a coalition of GIS practitioners, including the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), Florida Water Management Districts, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, and other state and federal agencies. The goal for this project is to use the LiDAR data as new elevation inputs for updated SLOSH data grids. The ultimate result is the update of the Regional Hurricane Evacuation Studies (RHES) for the state. The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management LiDAR Survey was collected under the guidance of a Professional Mapper/Surveyor. Data were collected for 167 square miles in coastal Okaloosa County, Florida from July 15, 2007 to August 21, 2007. This is a classified lidar data set. The data are classified: 1 = Unclassified, 2 = Ground (Bare Earth), 7 = Noise and 9 = Water. The FDEM Baseline Specifications required a maximum post spacing of 4 feet, however, the PDS (Program and Data Solutions) team required a much higher point density of its subcontractors in order to increase the probability of penetrating dense foliage during the mandated summer acquisition; with nominal post spacing of 0.7 meters per flight line and 50% sidelap between flight lines, the average point density is 4 points per square meter.

This fish and benthic composition database is the result of a multifaceted effort described below. The intent of this work is five fold: 1) To spatially characterize and monitor the distribution, abundance, and size of both reef fishes and macro-invertebrates (conch, lobster, Diadema); 2) To relate this information to in-situ data collected on associated benthic composition parameters; 3) To use this information to establish the knowledge base necessary for enacting management decisions in a spatial setting; 4) To establish the efficacy of those management decisions; and 5) To work with the National Coral Reef Monitoring Program to develop data collection standards and easily implemented methodologies for transference to other agencies and to work toward standardizing data collection throughout the US states and territories. Toward this end, the Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment's Biogeography Branch (BB) has been conducting research in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands since 2000 and 2001, respectively. It is critical, with recent changes in management at both locations (e.g. implementation of MPAs) as well as proposed changes (e.g. zoning to manage multiple human uses) that action is taken now to accurately describe and characterize the fish/macro-invertebrate populations in these areas. It is also important that BB work closely with the individuals responsible for recommending and implementing these management strategies. Recognizing this, BB has been collaborating with partners at the University of Puerto Rico, National Park Service, US Geological Survey and the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources. To quantify patterns of spatial distribution and make meaningful interpretations, we must first have knowledge of the underlying variables determining species distribution. The basis for this work therefore, is the nearshore benthic habitats maps (less than 100 ft depth) created by NOAA's Biogeography Program in 2001 and NOS' bathymetry models. Using ArcView GIS software, the digitized habitat maps are stratified to select sampling stations. Sites are randomly selected within these strata to ensure coverage of the entire study region and not just a particular reef or seagrass area. At each site, fish, macro-invertebrates, and benthic composition information is then quantified following standardized protocols. By relating the data collected in the field back to the habitat maps and bathymetric models, BB is able to model and map species level and community level information. These protocols are standardized throughout the US Caribbean to enable quantification and comparison of reef fish abundance and distribution trends between locations. Armed with the knowledge of where "hot spots" of species richness and diversity are likely to occur in the seascape, the BB is in a unique position to answer questions about the efficacy of marine zoning strategies (e.g. placement of no fishing, anchoring, or snorkeling locations), and what locations are most suitable for establishing MPAs. Knowledge of the current status of fish/macro-invertebrate communities coupled with longer term monitoring will enable evaluation of management efficacy, thus it is essential to future management actions.

CRED shallow Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) casts are vertical profiles (max 30 meter depth, downcast only) of temperature, conductivity and pressure. Data are collected at select nearshore locations, both around islands or banks and within lagoons. Data processing was performed using Seabird Instrument's SeaSoft SBE Data Processing Software (http://www.seabird.com/software/SBEDataProcforWindows.htm). Data format is discreet, tabular (formatted, space delimited ASCII) files for each profile, with a full header as provided by SeaSoft. Raw file extension is HEX, processed file extension is CNV. The header contains latitude, longitude and other location information, as well as all data processing steps and settings. All dates and times are UTC. All positions are WGS84 decimal degrees. Thematic accuracy requirements for the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program specify 80% accuracy for each map unit that represents USNVC floristic types. A total of 1288 accuracy assessment (AA) sites were selected at Voyageurs National Park and environs for a thematic AA analysis of the project's vegetation spatial database coverage. The field data were collected during the summers of 1997 and 1998. Data from 1251 sites were used for the AA analysis. Sites not used for the analysis were due to site inaccessibility, insufficient data collected, significant change in the landscape, or unmanageable error in the global positioning system (GPS) coordinate. Regardless of the data usability to the analysis, all 1288 AA sites are represented in the spatial database with explanations. The estimated overall accuracy for the vegetation map units is 82.4%.

The data represent predicted number of individuals of each listed seabird species per standardized survey segment (15 minute travel time at 10 knots = approx. 2.5 nautical miles (Nm) or 2.9 statute miles.) Therefore, if the average annual abundance number for a species is 0.2-0.3, then this model estimates that, on average, a single animal would be seen for every 3.3 - 5 survey segments conducted at randomly selected times of the year. Note that some species models were not estimated for all seasons due to very low/no abundance in those seasons, so the annual abundance is based only on the actual seasons modeled, assuming 0 abundance in other seasons. Annual average abundance prediction models were constructed in a study modeling at-sea occurrence and abundance of marine birds (to support Mid-Atlantic marine renewable energy planning). The Compendium of Avian Information in the U.S. Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf was used as a basis for this study, as it characterizes the survey effort and bird observations collected from the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf since 1978. The study was conducted for BOEM by NOAA/NOS/NCCOS in collaboration with the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center under interagency agreement. Within the study twenty-seven different species were modeled with up to four seasonal models for each species. These seasonal models were then averaged into mean relative abundance layers, which were then reclassified by NOAA OCM into a common classification scheme for display purposes in marinecadastre.gov. Please refer to the final report for more information about how these estimates were calculated.

Temperature data were collected from 1712 XBT casts in the Eastern Basin, Ionian Sea, Ligurian Sea, Strait of Gibraltar, Tyrrhenian Sea and the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Indian Ocean from October 1994 to September 2010. Data were collected and submitted by the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory as part of the High Resolution XBT Network for lines AX1, AX2, AX7, AX8, AX10, AX18, AX97, MX1, and MX9. These data were also collected in support of the Ship of Opportunity (SOOP) and the Global Temperature Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP).

This dataset contains an ESRI Grid with 9 meter cell size representing the slope (in degrees) of selected portions of seafloor around Isla de Mona in Puerto Rico, derived from data collected in 2008. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Branch, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in Puerto Rico from 2/25/08 to 3/8/08. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 multibeam echosounder (95 kHz) in 2008. It was processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 19 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. An ASCII XYZ file was exported from the BASE surface and imported to ESRI ArcMap 9.2 using the Convert XYZ to Raster tool developed by CCMA for this purpose. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

This data set contains lidar point data from a strip of Southern California coastline (including water, beach, cliffs, and top of cliffs) from Dana Point to Point La Jolla. The geographic extent of the data set is equivalent to the 18 quarter-quadrangles listed in Other_Citation_Details plus 30 meters of overedge beyond the extents of each quarter-quadrangle (overlap between quads). The data set was created by combining data collected using an Optech Inc. Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM) 1225 in combination with geodetic quality Global Positioning System (GPS) airborne and ground-based receivers. The Bureau of Economic Geology, the University of Texas at Austin owns and operates an ALTM 1225 system (serial number 99d118). The system was installed in a single engine Cessna 206 (tail number N4589U) owned and operated by the Texas State Aircraft Pooling Board. The lidar data set described by this document was collected on 9 September 2002 (25202) between 22:44 and 02:02 UTC (see Lineage, Source_Information, Source_Contribution for pass information). Conditions on that day were clear skies, no fog or low clouds, but haze. 99d118 instrument settings for this flight were; laser pulse rate: 25kHz, scanner rate: 26Hz, scan angle: +/-20deg, beam divergence: narrow, altitude: 760-960m AGL, and ground speed: 99-110kts. Two GPS base stations (Scripps pier and San Onofre Power Plant, see Lineage, Source_Information, Source_Contribution for coordinates) were operating during the survey. Data represented is all points including terrain, vegetation, and structures. This data also contains returns from the water surface. No processing has been done to remove returns from terrain, vegetation, structures or water surfaces.

The Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) dataset is a survey of the Jean Lafitte,G13PD00214, 1.0 Meter LiDAR Survey Area in south of New Orleans and encompasses 77 square miles. The LiDAR point cloud was flown at a nominal post spacing of 1.0 meters for unobscured areas. The LiDAR data and derivative products produced are in compliance with the U.S. Geological Survey National Geospatial Program Guidelines and Base Specifications, Version 1. The flight lines were acquired by Digital Aerial Solutions, LLC. on March, 05, 2013. Derivative products from the aerial acquisition include: Raw point cloud data in LAS v1.2, classified point cloud data in LAS v1.2, bare earth surface tiles (raster DEM LZW compressed 32-bit geotiff format), control points, project report, and FGDC compliant XML metadata.

Gridded multibeam bathymetry is integrated with bathymetry derived from multpectral World View-2 satellite data. Gridded (5 m cell size) multibeam bathymetry collected aboard NOAA Ship Hiialaka'i and R/V AHI. Bathymetry values shallower than ~20 m were derived by gauging the reletive attenuation of coastal, blue, green and yellow spectral radiance as a function of depth. A multiple linear regression analysis of coastal,blue, green and yellow band spectral values against depth determined the variables of y-intercept, coastal,blue, green and yellow slope values. Variables then used in multivariate slope intercept formula to derive depth. Digital image processing to derive depths conducted with the ENVI 4.8 software program while data editing and integration was performed using ArcGIS 10. This data set is for the shelf environment of Ni'ihau Island, Hawaii.

Chemical, physical, profile and laboratory analysis oceanographic data were collected aboard the OCEAN VERITAS in the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-06-13 to 2010-06-17 in response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill event on April 20, 2010, by the Subsurface Monitoring Unit (SMU), which consisted of multiple government and corporate agencies. These data include Attenuation/Transmission, CDOM fluorescence, Semivolatile Organic Compounds, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), Volatile Organic Compounds, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hydrostatic pressure, salinity, sound velocity, suspended solids, temperature and water density. The instruments used to collect these data included CTD, Laser In-Situ Scattering and Transmissometer (LISST), Transmissometer, bottle, fluorometer and oxygen meter along with other physical sampling devices. More specific information about each data set is located in their individual metadata records. The CTD data underwent preliminary quality assurance and control procedures at the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC). This data set also contains products created for use in real time analysis and decision support. These products may include charts, graphs, maps, plots, and GIS formatted data files. The analytical chemistry data are provisional and provide results of onshore laboratory analysis of water and sediment samples. Cruise level information consisting of data management documents, cruise reports and plans, videos and pictures, and other miscellaneous documentation were gathered by the data managers.
