File 100-024b is a 60-m ASCII grid of depth data collected near Twin Banks NW Nihoa in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands as of May 2003. This grid has been produced as part of the "Bathymetric Atlas of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands -- A Planning Document for Benthic Habitat Mapping -- Draft -- May 2003. Data sources for the downloadable grids include: multibeam bathymetry from Simrad EM1002 and EM120 sonars aboard the R/V Kilo Moana collected in October/November 2003; multibeam bathymetry data from a SeaBeam 210 sonar aboard the R/V Kai'imikai-O-Kanaloa collected in 2000-2002; LIDAR data obtained using the LADS MK II lidar system; and depth data derived from IKONOS satellite imagery. No tidal corrections have been applied to the data. The data source location for each type of data is indicated in the "dot plot" browse objects. Additional single-beam bathymetric data are available in this area and are indicated on the 100-024b Plot C browse object, but these less accurate depths are not included in the downloadable grid. Multibeam data were processed using SABER editing software and MBSystem and multibeam, LIDAR and IKONOS data were integrated using MBSystem, and GMT. Grid spacing is 60-m, horizontal accuracy is 20m (no differential GPS correctors applied), vertical accuracy is depth dependent (~1% of water depth), WGS84 datum. These data are not to be used for navigation.

This dataset is from a study that analyzed the late summer distribution of juvenile Pacific cod in the eastern Bering Sea for 6 cohorts (2004-2009), based on catches in the Bering-Aleutian Salmon International Survey (BASIS).

This dataset contains a unified GeoTiff with 3x3 meter cell size representing the bathymetry of the continental shelf off of Jacksonville, FL in the South Atlantic Bight, derived from data collected in 2010. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Branch, in collaboration with the University of South Florida, as well as the R/V Lost Coast Explorer , and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data for deep coral research from 010/26/2010 to 10/27/2010. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 710 multibeam echosounder (70 kHz). It was processed by the University of South Florida using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM Zone 17 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. The CARIS Export option "BASE Surface to Image" was then used to create a GeoTiff of the priority areas.

XBT data were collected from the USCGC CAMPBELL in support of the Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS). Data were collected by the US Coast Guard from 09 August 1979 to 23 September 1979. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.

This project is a cooperative effort among the National Ocean Service, National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, Center for Coastal Monitoring and Assessment; the University of Hawaii; and Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLC. The goal of the work was to develop coral reef mapping methods and compare benthic habitat maps generated by photointerpreting georeferenced color aerial photography, hyperspectral and IKONOS satellite imagery. The enhanced spectral resolution of hyperspectral and control of bandwidths of multispectral data yield an advantage over color aerial photography particularly when coral health and time series analysis of coral reef community structure are of interest. Depending on the type of instrument, a spectral imaging system can be utilized to see multiple colors from ultraviolet through the far infrared range. The AURORA hyperspectral imaging system collected 72 ten nm bands in the visible and near infrared spectral range with a 3 meter pixel resolution. The data was processed to select band widths, which optimized feature detection in shallow and deep water. Photointerpreters can accurately and reliably delineate boundaries of features in the imagery as they appear on the computer monitor using a software interface such as the Habitat Digitizer.

Data were collected from 21 July 1981 to 02 December 1985 by Office De La Recherche Scientifique Et Technique Outre Mer in Brest, France with support from the Seasonal Response of the Equatorial Atlantic Experiment / Francais Ocean Et Climat Dans L'Atlantique Equatorial (SEQUAL/FOCAL) project.

Marine toxic substance and other data were collected from grab casts in the Norton Sound from the NOAA Ship DISCOVERER and other platforms from 11 September 1975 to 22 August 1978. Data were collected by the University California - Los Angeles (UCLA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F144 Marine Toxic Substances format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/f144.html. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F144 format contains data on ambient concentrations of toxic substances and other pollutants in the marine environment. The data derive from laboratory analyses of samples of water, sediment, or marine organisms. Samples may have been collected near marine discharge sites or during ocean monitoring surveys of large areas. Field observations of tar deposits on beaches may also be reported. Survey information includes platform type, start and end dates, and investigator and institution. If data are collected near a discharge site, discharge location, depth, distance to shore, average volume, and other characteristics are reported. Position, date, time and environmental conditions are reported for each sample station. Environmental data may include meteorological and sea surface conditions, tide stage and height, depth of the thermocline or mixed layer surface temperature and salinity, and wave height and periods. Sample characteristics, collection methods, and laboratory techniques are reported for each sample collected and analyzed. The data record comprises concentration values (or a code to indicate trace amounts) for each chemical substance analyzed. Chemical substances are identified by codes based on the registry numbers assigned by the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) of the American Chemical Society. Marine organisms from which samples have been taken are identified using the 12-digit NODC Taxonomic Code. A text record is available for optional comments.
