Popis
1. This project identifies scientific principles and implementation practices that can guide managers in deciding whether a reintroduction effort for anadromous salmonids is warranted, and what the most appropriate techniques for achieving long-term benefits from such an endeavor are. 2. This project is being led by NWFSC scientists, staffed with an NRC post-doc and contributed to by personnel from state, federal and tribal agencies throughout the PNW. In addition, a SWC scientist is also participating. 3. In this project, we will identify principles for planning reintroduction efforts, evaluate currently unoccupied areas for their suitability for reintroductions, and conduct a field survey of areas in which reintroductions have taken place to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative approaches to reintroduction. 4. We will produce a report for the FCRPS BiOp AMIP process, and one to two peer-reviewed publications. 5. The management audience for this work is any fish manager involved in potential projects to reintroduce salmonids to areas they formerly occupied. 6. This is a one-time, stand-alone project.
