The data represent predicted number of individuals of each listed seabird species per standardized survey segment (15 minute travel time at 10 knots = approx. 2.5 nautical miles (Nm) or 2.9 statute miles.) Therefore, if the average annual abundance number for a species is 0.2-0.3, then this model estimates that, on average, a single animal would be seen for every 3.3 - 5 survey segments conducted at randomly selected times of the year. Note that some species models were not estimated for all seasons due to very low/no abundance in those seasons, so the annual abundance is based only on the actual seasons modeled, assuming 0 abundance in other seasons. Annual average abundance prediction models were constructed in a study modeling at-sea occurrence and abundance of marine birds (to support Mid-Atlantic marine renewable energy planning). The Compendium of Avian Information in the U.S. Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf was used as a basis for this study, as it characterizes the survey effort and bird observations collected from the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf since 1978. The study was conducted for BOEM by NOAA/NOS/NCCOS in collaboration with the USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center under interagency agreement. Within the study twenty-seven different species were modeled with up to four seasonal models for each species. These seasonal models were then averaged into mean relative abundance layers, which were then reclassified by NOAA OCM into a common classification scheme for display purposes in marinecadastre.gov. Please refer to the final report for more information about how these estimates were calculated.

Conductivity Temperature and Depth (CTD) measurements were collected aboard the R/V Ocean Veritas 06 to determine physical oceanographic parameters of the water column, and in some cases used to help guide sample collection as part of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill sampling effort. Temperature, conductivity/salinity, depth, dissolved oxygen, and fluorometry data were collected onboard the R/V Ocean Veritas 06. The final product is a series of NetCDF files containing every CTD cast that has been processed and quality checked.

This database contains counts of Steller sea lion pups on rookeries in Alaska made between 1961 and 2014. Pup counts are conducted in late June-July. Pups are counted from the ground (by walking along the rookery), from cliff-side overlooks, and from aerial images (oblique and vertical orientation). Pup counts conducted in late June-mid July are considered to represent a complete census of pups produced at each site during the year.

This is a time-series dataset of trip expenditure data including actual fishing trip expenses, input usage, and input prices, for boat-based reef fish, bottomfish, and pelagic fisheries in CNMI, American Samoa, and Guam. Specifically, the surveys intend to collect information on: gallons of fuel used for the fishing trip, price per gallon of fuel, cost of ice used, cost of bait & chum used, cost of fishing gear lost, and the engine type of the boat. These economic data are collected through an add-on to boat-based creel surveys initiated by local fisheries agencies in CNMI, American Samoa, and Guam to collect fisheries dependent data. The data collection program was implemented in April 2009 in CNMI, August 2009 in American Samoa, and September 2011 in Guam.

A survey of the marine biota of the island of Lanai, Hawaii, to determine the presence and impact of marine non-indigenous and cryptogenic species, February - March 2005 (NODC Accession 0002650)

Popis
A baseline survey of the marine biota of the island of Lanai was conducted in May 2005. This was first comprehensive study that has been made on this island for all components of its marine nearshore community. Samples and observations were taken at seven sites around the island, and all macroalgae, macroinvertebrates and fish species collected or observed were recorded. On-site observations without collections were made at two other sites. Identified species were designated as native, nonindigenous (introduced) or cryptogenic (neither demonstrably native nor introduced) according to criteria used for previous introduced species surveys in Hawaii. A total of 294 taxa were observed or identified from collected specimens, which included 16 introduced or cryptogenic species and three new reports for the Hawaiian Islands. The 16 introduced and cryptogenic species comprised 5.4% of the total identified taxa and included seven cnidarians, one polychaete, two pericards, one decapod, one bryozoan, two ascidians and three fish. By station, the introduced/cryptogenic component ranged 3 to 7 species and 3.8% to 6.8% of the total biota. The stations included two sites at or near Kaumalapau Harbor, Lanai's principal harbor for inter-island shipping. The percent component values are similar to those that have been determined on ocean-exposed reef areas elsewhere in the Hawaiian Islands but the harbor value is well below the values in other Hawaiian harbors that are more isolated from open ocean circulation than Kaumalapau Harbor. No invasive introduced algae and only two invasive introduced invertebrates were found on the surveys. These were a single colony of the octocoral Carijoa riisei in the vicinity of Cathedrals between Manele Bay and Harbor, and a single stomatopod Gonodactylaceous falcatus at the site closest to Manele Harbor.

The Canadian ROPOS remotely operated vehicle (ROV) outfitted with video equipment (and other devices) was deployed from the NOAA Ship McAurthurII during May-June 2006 in an attempt to document the presence of critical hard bottom benthic habitats believed to exist in the waters of the Olympic Coast national marine sanctuary (OCNMS). Video data from specific dives falling within the bounds of the HMPR-119-2006-01a survey area were reviewed to describe various benthic characteristics as a tool for validating sonar imagery.

Temperature profile data were collected using CTD casts in the North Atlantic Ocean from July 21, 1982 to July 28, 1982. Data were collected and submitted by Dr. Yuri Popov of the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of the Ecology of Sea (UkrSCES). The data are from the Newfoundland Energetic Activity Polygon (NEAZO). Approximately 20 years ago a leading Russian Scientist, Akademician Marchuk (Mathematician) proposed a theory that there are some areas in the ocean where the atmospheric interaction is very strong. Hence we have to monitor these areas (key areas, aka Centers of Actions). This area he called Energo Active Zone, zone active energetically. A lot of energy is coming from the ocean to atmosphere and the reverse. There are several active zones, one being Newfoundland. A polygon was established in the Newfoundland area. The Russian use the acronym NEAZO; the Americans use the acronym NEP.
