Temperature profile data were collected using bathythermograph (BT/XBT) casts from PRESIDENT MADISON in the Pacific Ocean from November 20, 1976 to November 28, 1976. Data were submitted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography in part of the Thermal Structure Monitoring Program in the Pacific (TRANSPAC) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full BT descriptions are available at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data record was comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT Data File, in which temperature values were recorded at uniform 5 m intervals, the XBT data files contained temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''inflection points'') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m.

NODC Accession 0115589 includes chemical, meteorological, physical and underway - surface data collected from KNORR in the Andaman Sea or Burma Sea, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman, Indian Ocean, Laccadive Sea, Mozambique Channel and Persian Gulf (Gulf of Iran) from 1994-12-01 to 1996-01-21 and retrieved during cruise 316N145_10, 316N145_12, 316N145_13, 316N145_14, 316N145_5, 316N145_6, 316N145_7, 316N145_8 and 316N145_9. These data include BAROMETRIC PRESSURE, CARBON DIOXIDE - AIR, Partial pressure (or fugacity) of carbon dioxide, SALINITY and SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE. The instruments used to collect these data include Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas analyzer and Shower head chamber equilibrator for autonomous carbon dioxide (CO2) measurement. These data were collected by Robert M. Key of Princeton University; Department of Geosciences; Program in Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences and Christopher Sabine of US DOC; NOAA; OAR; Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory as part of the WOCE I01, WOCE I02, WOCE I03, WOCE I04, WOCE I05E, WOCE I05W, WOCE I07N, WOCE I08N, WOCE I09N, WOCE I09S, WOCE I10 and WOCE_I8S data set. The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) was a major component of the World Climate Research Program with the overall goal of better understanding the ocean's role in climate and climatic changes resulting from both natural and anthropogenic causes. The CO2 survey took advantage of the sampling opportunities provided by the WOCE Hydrographic Program (WHP) cruises during this period between 1990 and 1998. The final collection covers approximately 23,000 stations from 94 WOCE cruises.

CTD data were collected from CTD casts from NOAA Ship DISCOVERER and NOAA Ship SURVEYOR in the Northeast Pacific Ocean from 03 June 1985 to 21 September 1988. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) as part of the VENTS program. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F022 High Resolution STD/CTD data format. Full format and format code descriptions are available at http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-datafmts.html. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. Environmental data at the time of the cast (meteorological and sea surface conditions) may also be reported. The data record comprises values of temperature, salinity or conductivity, density (computed sigma-t), and possibly dissolved oxygen or transmissivity at specified depth or pressure levels. Data may be reported at either equally or unequally spaced depth or pressure intervals. A text record is available for comments.

The University of Alaska, Institute of Marine Science is responsible for this data collected aboard the R/V Alpha Helix on cruise number HX123 between May 5, 1989 to May 11, 1989 by Dr. R.T. Cooney of the Institute of Marine Science. There was a total of 51 stations in the Prince William sound area. The station numbers are: 2-52. These data were collected for the Exxon Oil Spill Monitoring Program. Funding was provided by the State of Alaska. This data was submitted to NODC earlier. This data set represents a resubmission due to fact that the earlier version had the wrong offsets applied. Field correction for the STD data was derived by comparing single bottle samples to recorded values from the STD sensors. The field correction is based on 15 samples from a total of 16 stations. The field corrections are: 3000 m CTD temperature mean (Nansen-STD) is 0.00536 and 3000 m CTD salinity mean (Nansen-STD) is -0.04131.

NODC Accession 0118685 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, physical and time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System (SCS) aboard the NOAA Ship Nancy Foster in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2014-05-19 to 2014-05-20. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted these data and associated metadata to NODC. In addition, NODC Accession 0118685 contains supplementary cruise-level metadata, which OMAO personnel logged in the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL). OMAO and NODC personnel developed the automated process to archive these data under the auspices of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (NOAA R2R) program.

These data were collected to evaluate the best measures of the effect of contaminants on the biota to be used as part of the National Status and Trends Program. Sediment and benthic samples were collected in coastal waters around San Francisco Bay, specifically from the Russian River to Santa Cruz. The samples were collected from November 1, 1986 to February 27, 1987. Each sample was tested for trace metal and organic compound concentrations, organic carbon and texture. The originator's data are in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet submitted by Dr. Edward Long from NOS/CEAB. They are documented in the NOAA technical memorandum nos OMA 45 (1989) titled "An Evaluation of Candidate Measures of Biological Effects for the National Status and Trends Program".

The instruments used to collect these data include ADCP, CTD and GPS. These data were collected by Ren-Chieh Lien of University of Washington, and by University of California - San Diego; Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of Studying the Origin of Kuroshio with an Array of ADCP-TC Moorings. The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) submitted these data to NODC as part of the NSF sponsored Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program. The ADCP data represent the raw and automated processed data set. Post processed quality assessed data are not available in this accession.

The data were collected by National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Highlands, NJ and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) located in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The data was collected as part of Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project. Data was submitted by Helen Philips to NODC. The temperature data collected at selected depths is available in the C125 Bathythermograph XBT format of NODC.
