Description
The data show the estimated number of people affected by noise from road traffic, railway and industrial sources, based on an annual average 24 hour period for the situation in 2011. The information arose from the strategic noise mapping undertaken to meet the requirements of Directive 2002/49/EC (the Environmental Noise Directive (END)) and the corresponding regulations. The information is given for each agglomeration covered by the END and for the major road and railway sources outside agglomerations as defined in the END. Other notes: • There is no requirement to map industrial sources outside agglomerations. • Not all agglomerations have industrial sources covered by the END that cause population to be exposed to noise levels in the ranges shown • The noise exposure ranges shown reflect the requirements of the END • The END is not prescriptive over exactly what noise sources have to be included in the strategic noise mapping. • For all agglomerations, the road noise mapping was based on Motorways and A roads only, using data compiled by the Department for Transport. • For all agglomerations, the railway noise mapping was based on the standard passenger and freight network only. • For industry, only those sites which met the definition of a Part A(1) activity as described in the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 were included.

The UK Commission’s Employer Skills Survey (UKCESS) is the largest of its kind on the world. It gives a comprehensive and robust picture of skills needs and training investment in UK business. Topics covered in the survey include training and staff development, vacancies and skills shortages, employee skill gaps and the recruitment of education leavers. The UKCESS 2011 is the first survey in the series. In January 2013, the second in this series, the UK Commission's Employer Skills Survey 2013, was published. It is available at: http://data.gov.uk/dataset/ukces-employer-skills-survey-2013 . Please note that because of the complexity of harmonising surveys from the four UK nations in 2011, the 2011 UK Employer Skills Survey presented results in several versions. Please see the data files for more information. In order to compare 2011 to 2013 results; the data tables comparable with UKCES Evidence Report No. 81 should be used due to a change in sampling strategy.

The Personal Social Services Adult Social Care Survey (ASCS) for England is an annual survey and took place for the second time in 2011-12. Service users were sent questionnaires during January to March 2012 to seek their opinions over a range of outcome areas to gain an understanding of service users’ views and experience rather than measuring quantities of care delivered. It is designed to cover all service users aged 18 and over receiving services funded wholly or in part by Social Services during 2011-12, and aims to learn more about whether or not the services are helping them to live safely and independently in their own home and the impact on their quality of life. The survey is also used to populate some of the measures in the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF).
