Description

When a species is proposed for listing as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must consider whether there are areas of habitat believed to be essential the species’ conservation. Those areas may be proposed for designation as “critical habitat.” Critical habitat is a term defined and used in the Act. It is a specific geographic area(s) that contains features essential for the conservation of a threatened or endangered species and that may require special management and protection. Critical habitat may include an area that is not currently occupied by the species but that will be needed for its recovery. An area is designated as “critical habitat” after the Service publishes a proposed Federal regulation in the Federal Register and receives and considers public comments on the proposal. The final boundaries of the critical habitat are also published in the Federal Register.

Description

A national survey conducted to obtain information about household food expenditures, food program participation, food sufficiency, ways for coping with food insecurity, and concerns about food security. The universe for the survey are households eligible for the basic Current Population Survey (CPS). This includes households that are 185 percent of poverty and lower that will be asked all supplement questions as well as households over 185 percent of poverty that will be asked only a few questions, unless their answers identify them as "food insecure" and therefore eligible for the entire supplement. This is a proxy response supplement. However, interviewers are asked to interview (if at all possible) the person who buys or prepares the food for the household.

Description

The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) research program has been in existence since mandated by Congress in 1928. FIA's primary objective is to determine the extent, condition, volume, growth, and depletion of timber on the Nation's forest land. Before 1999, all inventories were conducted on a periodic basis. The passage of the 1998 Farm Bill requires FIA to collect data annually on plots within each State. This kind of up-to-date information is essential to frame realistic forest policies and programs. Summary reports for individual States are published but the Forest Service also provides data collected in each inventory to those interested in further analysis. Data is distributed via the FIA DataMart in a standard format. This standard format, referred to as the Forest Inventory and Analysis Database (FIADB) structure, was developed to provide users with as much data as possible in a consistent manner among States. A number of inventories conducted prior to the implementation of the annual inventory are available in the FIADB. However, various data attributes may be empty or the items may have been collected or computed differently. Annual inventories use a common plot design and common data collection procedures nationwide, resulting in greater consistency among FIA work units than earlier inventories. Links to field collection manuals and the FIADB user’s manual are provided in the FIA DataMart.

This table contains data on the rate of violent crime (crimes per 1,000 population) for California, its regions, counties, cities and towns. Crime and population data are from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Uniform Crime Reports. Rates above the city/town level include data from city, university and college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies. The table is part of a series of indicators in the Healthy Communities Data and Indicators Project of the Office of Health Equity (http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/Pages/HealthyCommunityIndicators.aspx). Ten percent of all deaths in young California adults aged 15-44 years are related to assault and homicide. In 2010, California law enforcement agencies reported 1,809 murders, 8,331 rapes, and over 95,000 aggravated assaults. African Americans in California are 11 times more likely to die of assault and homicide than Whites. More information about the data table and a data dictionary can be found in the About/Attachments section.

The FCC Geographic Information Systems site gives you the tools to create, view, query and print customized maps showing FCC licensing data, regulated towers and market area boundaries. These maps can be extremely helpful in conducting analysis on current service and need/feasibility studies for new services. With these data sets, you will be able to determine the locations and limited technical details of existing towers the FCC collects data on (i.e. Cellular, Paging, Microwave, AM, FM, etc...).

Description

This data set contains indexes and Esri shape files of boundaries of the designated sole source aquifers and related aquifer boundaries. Data provide a vector polygon GIS layer showing available materials representing extents at the land surface related to 78 designated Sole Source Aquifers (SSA) related to announcements in the Federal Register. GIS coverages for SSAs were obtained from EPA Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 for a baseline period in September of 2009. Each SSA polygon was checked against the Federal Register (FR) determination for that SSA. These coverages were appended, in order to create a national seamless coverage of SSAs. There are 89 GIS polygons for the Sole Source Aquifers, since in addition to a single SSA designated area polygons, some Regions have delineated GIS layers for streamflow zones, aquifer recharge areas, and other features at the land surface important for the SSA designations. GIS materials are not available at this time for the St. Joseph SSA in Indiana [53 FR 23682 (1988)]. Additional information can be found at: https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/OW/SSA_FR_notices_DWMA_Sept2009.Zip and https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/OW/SSA_IDS_revd.xls

Description

The 2013-14 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS 2013-14) was a study that was part of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) program; program data is available since 1980 at6 . IPEDS 2013-14 (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/) was a web-based system designed to collect basic data from all postsecondary institutions in the United States and the other jurisdictions. Key statistics produced from IPEDS 2013-14 allowed the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to describe the size of one of the nation's largest enterprises--postsecondary education-- in terms of students enrolled, degrees and other awards earned, dollars expended, and staff employed. All Title IV institutions were required to respond to IPEDS (see Section 490 of the Higher Education Amendments of 1992 [P.L. 102-325; 20 U.S.C. 1070 et seq.]). IPEDS allowed other, non-Title IV institutions to participate on a voluntary basis, but only about 200 elected to respond.

CDC child growth charts consist of a series of percentile curves that illustrate the distribution of selected body measurements in U.S. children. Pediatric growth charts have been used by pediatricians, nurses, and parents to track the growth of infants, children, and adolescents in the United States since 1977. Growth charts are not intended to be used as a sole diagnostic instrument. Instead, growth charts are tools that contribute to forming an overall clinical impression for the child being measured.

Description

This data extraction tool contains the non confidential identities of chemical substances submitted under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). TSCA was enacted to ensure that chemicals manufactured, imported, processed, or distributed in commerce, or used or disposed of in the United States do not pose any unreasonable risks to human health or the environment. EPA adds chemical substances to the TSCA Inventory following EPAs receipt of a Notice of Commencement (NOC) signaling the manufacturers intent to produce a chemical substance that EPA has previously reviewed and approved. Since EPA published the final TSCA Inventory Reporting Rule on December 23, 1977, the TSCA Inventory has grown to include the identities of over 83, 000 chemical substances.
