Description
For emerging energy technologies, a variety of cost and performance numbers are cited in presentations and reports for present-day characteristics and potential improvements. Amid a variety of sources and methods for these data, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s technology development programs determine estimates for use in program planning. The Transparent Cost Database collects program cost and performance estimates for EERE technologies in a public forum where they can be viewed and compared to other published estimates. The database includes literature on technology cost, performance estimates and levelized costs (both current and future projections) for: * electricity generation * biofuels * vehicles All data are downloadable for full transparency. Levelized cost calculation parameters for all three areas can be adjusted and the dynamic results can be downloaded in CSV or as a formatted spreadsheet. This project is under active development and we welcome user suggestions for additional features or modifications to enhance usability for the energy community. The database also allows nomination of data sets for inclusion in the database or comments on the estimates used by interested users. This dataset provides a U.S. national 60-m, 19-class mapping of anthropogenic land uses for five time periods: 1974-1982-1992-2002-2012. The 2012 dataset is based on a slightly modified version of the National Land Cover Database 2011 (NLCD 2011) that was recoded to a schema of land uses, and mapped back in time to develop datasets for the four earlier eras. The time periods coincide with years in which U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Census of Agriculture data were collected. Changes are derived from (a) known changes in water bodies from reservoir construction or removal, (b) housing unit density changes, (c) regional mining/extraction trends, (d) for 1999-2012, timber and forestry activity based on US Geological Survey (USGS) Landfire data, (e) county-level USDA Census of Agriculture change in cultivated land, and (f) establishment dates of major conservation areas. The data are compared to several other published studies and datasets as validation. Caveats are provided about limitations of the data for some classes. The work was completed as part of the USGS National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program and termed the NAWQA Wall-to-Wall Anthropogenic Land Use Trends (NWALT) dataset, with anticipation of five year updates for future versions. The associated datasets include five 60-m geospatial rasters showing anthropogenic land use from 1974-2012 and 14 rasters showing the extent of timber clear-cutting and harvest for 1999-2012. The 2004 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS:04) is a study that is part of the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS) program. BPS:04 (http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/bps/) is a longitudinal survey that follows a cohort of students who enrolled in postsecondary education for the first time during the 2003-04 academic year, irrespective of date of high school completion. The study was conducted using computer-assisted telephone interviews, computer-assisted personal interviews, and self-administered web interviews of students. The entire cohort of students beginning postsecondary education which includes nontraditional students who do not enter postsecondary education immediately after high school were sampled. Response rate was 82 percent among the eligible sample and 90 percent among those sample members who were successfully located. (BPS: 04/09 methodology report). Key statistics produced from BPS:04 are data on student persistence in, and completion of, postsecondary education programs; their transition to employment; demographic characteristics; and changes over time in their goals, marital status, income, and debt, among other measures.

The dataset contains hospitalization counts and rates, statewide and by county, for 13 ambulatory care sensitive conditions plus 3 composite measures. Hospitalizations due to these medical conditions are potentially preventable through access to high-quality outpatient care. The conditions include: diabetes short-term complications; perforated appendix; diabetes long-term complications; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma in older adults (age 40 and over); hypertension; heart failure; dehydration; bacterial pneumonia; urinary tract infection; angina without procedure; uncontrolled diabetes; asthma in younger adults (age 18-39); and lower-extremity amputation among patients with diabetes. The data provides a good starting point for assessing quality of health services in the community. The data does not measure hospital quality.
