In 1984, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Office of Marine Geology, launched a program using the Geological LOng-Range Inclined Asdic (GLORIA) sidescan-sonar system to study the entire U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). From December 1990 through February 1991, the USGS and IOS (Institute of Oceanographic Sciences, U.K.) scientists conducted three surveys within the Johnston Atoll U.S. EEZ surrounding Johnston Island. The results of these surveys were 16 digital mosaics of a 2 degree by 2 degree area with a 50-meter pixel resolution.

Description

The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual- chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In addition to the preceding, required text, the Abstract should also describe the projection and coordinate system as well as a general statement about horizontal accuracy.

This 2' gravity anomaly grid for Mexico, North-Central America and the Western Caribbean Sea is NOT the input data set used in the development of the MEXICO97 model. This gravity grid represents one million gravity measurements held in the NGS gravity database as of March 1997. The data used in this grid have NOT been augmented by gravity data contributions from NGA (former National Imagery and Mapping Agency), but have been augmented by 2'x2' satellite-altimeter-derived gravity anomalies computed by Sandwell and Smith (1997). Please note that the MEXICO97 geoid model does contain the NGA (former National Imagery and Mapping Agency) contributions. Large data gaps south of 20 degrees North latitude were filled with15'x15' gravity values derived from the EGM96 global geopotential model. The gravity values are based on the International Gravity Standardization Net 1971 (IGSN71). The geoid heights are referred to the Geodetic Reference System 1980 (GRS80) ellipsoid, centered at the origin of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame 1994 (ITRF94(1996.0)). The National Water Level Observation Network (NWLON) is a network of long-term water level stations operated and maintained by CO-OPS. NWLON stations are located on shore-based platforms, and primarily collect real-time water level measurements. As of January 2013, approximately 180 of 210 NWLON stations also collect real-time meteorological data. About 20 CO-OPS Physical Oceanographic Real-Time Systems (PORTS) comprise a group of water level stations, and 65 of these stations also collect real-time meteorological data. Data parameters include barometric pressure, wind direction, speed and gust, air temperature, and water temperature.

Description

Survey of the southeastern Hawaiian Ridge was the fifth major segment of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) mapping program to have been initiated. Data acquisition for this region required approximately one-half year and were acquired during eight cruises over a four year period from 1986 through 1989, skipping 1987. At the conclusion of the survey 29 mosaics of a 2 degree by 2 degree were completed for the region. As in earlier EEZ reconnaissance surveys, the USGS utilized the GLORIA (Geological LOng-Range Inclined Asdic) sidescan-sonar system to complete the geologic mapping. The collected GLORIA data were processed and digitally mosaicked to produce continuous imagery of the seafloor. A total of twenty-seven digital mosaics of a 2 degree by 2 degree area and 2 mosaics of 2.25 degree by 2 degree with a 50-meter pixel resolution were completed for the region.

NODC accession 0098580 includes physical and underway data collected aboard the MELVILLE during cruise MGLN35MV in the Philippine Sea and South China Sea (Nan Hai) from 2008-03-23 to 2008-04-02. These data include CURRENT SPEED - EAST/WEST COMPONENT (U) and CURRENT SPEED - NORTH/SOUTH COMPONENT (V). The instruments used to collect these data include ADCP and GPS. These data were collected by Lee Shores of JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY, and by SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY as part of Transit. The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) submitted these data to NODC as part of the NSF sponsored Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program. The ADCP data represent the raw and automated processed data set. Post processed quality assessed data are not available in this accession.

Description

An advanced airborne imaging system for fire detection/mapping is proposed. The goal of the project is to improve control and management of wildfires in order to reduce loss of life and property. The system will offer approximately a 3X increase in operating efficiency compared to current systems and will be designed for autonomous or remote operation in an unmanned airborne system (UAS) but will also be suitable for operation in manned aircraft. The system includes a multi-band imaging sensor, position and attitude sensor, an interface to an air-to-ground or satellite data communication link, and a data processing system with software for; fire detection, image geo-coding, and image compression. The sensor head is an innovative design combining high resolution framing devices (cameras) with a step-stare scanning mirror. This configuration results in high spatial resolution imagery and wide area coverage. The design of the sensor head is flexible allowing for a variety of cameras including; RGB, CIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR. The system can be operated at various altitudes allowing it to serve a variety of missions. We envision several versions of the instrument, one weighing less than 75 pounds and a smaller version weighing less than 20 pounds.

Description

The reprocessed OMI/Aura Level-2 Zoomed Ozone data product OMDOAO3Z at 13x12 km resolution is now available (http://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/Aura/OMI/omdoao3z_v003.shtml ) from the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) for the public access. It is the second release of Version 003 and was reprocessed late 2011. OMI provides two sets of total column ozone products OMTO3 and OMDOAO3 which are based on two different algorithms. OMTO3 product is based on TOMS like ozone retrieval algorithm whereas OMDOAO3 total column ozone product is based on the Differential Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) fitting technique that essentially uses the OMI visible radiance values between 331.1 and 336.1 nm. The DOAS retrieval algorithm is developed by the KNMI OMI Scientist, Dr Pepijn Veefkind. Based on spatial reolutions, there are two DOAS algorithm based ozone products, OMDOAO3 (at 13x24 km resolution) and OMDOAO3Z (13x12 km resolution) . In addition to the total ozone column values these DOAS based ozone products also contain some auxiliary derived and ancillary input parameters e.g. ozone slant column density, ozone ghost column density, air mass factor, scene reflectivity, radiance over the DOAS fit window, root mean square of DAOS fit, cloud fraction, cloud radiance, cloud pressure, terrain height, geolocation, viewing angles and quality flags. (The shortname for this Level-2 OMI Zoomed Ozone product is OMDOAO3Z) OMDOAO3Z files are stored in EOS Hierarchical Data Format (HDF-EOS5). Each file contains data from the day lit portion of an orbit (~53 minutes). OMDOAO3Z data files are based on Zoomed Level 1B radiance observations which are made once a month. Thus there is one day of zoomed data (approximately 14 orbits) per month. The maximum file size for the OMDOAO3Z data is about 30 Mbytes. OMI is a contribution of the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) in collaboration with Finish Meteorological Institute (FMI), to the US EOS-Aura Mission.
