Description

This publication contains information about populations registered with GP practices at Strategic Health Authority (SHA) and Primary Care Organisation (PCO) level in five-year age bands by gender, for England and Wales. The data was collected in April 2010 for GP relevant populations. They have been constrained to the Office for National Statistics 2009 mid-year population estimates - based on the 2001 Census, excluding some special populations. This reconciliation is carried out as the number of patient registrations is greater than the number of people living in England and Wales according to population estimates from the ONS. There may be a number of reasons for this, e.g. people leaving the country and not notifying their GP. The data are available in the spreadsheet as population figures by SHA and PCO, gender and in five-year age bands. Further information on how the data were collected and analysed is provided in the technical note. For more information on ONS population estimates, please see the Office for National Statistics website.

Description

Annual levels of particles and ozone, 1987 to 2011 Our air quality is monitored by a national network of monitoring sites, which continuously captures ambient air quality levels for selected pollutants throughout the UK. This monitoring helps to assess the risks to people’s health and to the environment. Urban background and roadside particulate pollution has shown long-term improvement but changed little recently. Urban background ozone pollution has shown a long-term increase and Rural background ozone pollution has shown no clear long-term trend and changed little recently.

Emissions of ammonia have fallen by 21 per cent between 1980 and 2010, but increased by 0.5 per cent between 2009 and 2010. Emissions in 2010 were 4 per cent below the international target for the UK. Description

This report contains information on staff employed (directly and indirectly) by adult social services departments in England as at September 2011. It will be of interest to central government (for policy development, monitoring and workforce planning), local government (for benchmarking), lobbying organisations, academics and the general public. The report does not include information on staff employed by children's social services departments which is published by the Department for Education . The report uses data collected by the National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC). The NMDS-SC is managed by Skills for Care on behalf of the Department of Health and has been collecting information about social care providers and their staff since early 2006. The previous data source used for this report was the Personal Social Services Staff of Social Services Departments return (SSDS001). Following a consultation it was decided that the NMDS-SC would replace the SSDS001 from September 2011 as the adult workforce data return for local authorities. The data in this report are therefore not directly comparable with data from the SSDS001 because the SSDS001 covered both adults and children's services whereas this report focuses solely on adults and the adult job classifications are very different . Where possible however, some comparisons have been made to previous year's data to provide some context. Error Notification - July 2012 The figure for the number of workers in Gateshead was found, post-publication, to be incorrect. The correct figure was 910 and not 1,820 as previously published. This also had a small impact on national totals quoted in the report. A revised report was issued on 5 July 2012.
