Description

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has the statutory mandate to collect hydrographic data in support of nautical chart compilation for safe navigation and to provide background data for engineers, scientific, and other commercial and industrial activities. Hydrographic survey data primarily consist of water depths, but may also include features (e.g. rocks, wrecks), navigation aids, shoreline identification, and bottom type information. NOAA is responsible for archiving and distributing the source data as described in this metadata record.

Description

The Sprayable Thermal Insulation for Cryogenic Tanks (STICT) is a thermal management system applied by either an automated or manual spraying process with less sensitivity to process chemistry and environmental parameters than current spray-on foam insulations (SOFI) like BX-265, while providing better insulation performance. The sprayable insulation based on aerogel forms an aerodynamically smooth, uniform coating with better cohesion and lower thermal conductivity. Aerogel sprayed insulation has shown in Phase I better thermal performance than polyurethane spray-on foam insulation at similar or lower areal densities. Application of thinner layers of insulation combined with greater material resistance to cracking and debonding will eliminate the generation of in-flight debris. Minimization of volatile gas blowing agents and organic components will reduce gas expansion through intracellular pressures and reduces the risk posed by shedding events during ascent. The proposed sprayable insulation can render future space transportation systems safer and more reliable. Addressing lower temperature requirements of the thermal protection system, lightweight hybrid aerogel sprayable compositions will be developed. Hybrid aerogels with various dopants will be synthesized for better compatibility with the binders or organic foams. For the most stringent thermal and mechanical loads silica aerogel? silica foams will be developed as sprayable insulation.

Description

The 2014 cartographic boundary shapefiles are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. In New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has defined an alternative county subdivision (generally cities and towns) based definition of Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) known as New England City and Town Areas (NECTAs). NECTAs are defined using the same criteria as Metropolitan Statistical Areas and Micropolitan Statistical Areas and are identified as either metropolitan or micropolitan, based, respectively, on the presence of either an urban area of 50,000 or more population or an urban cluster of at least 10,000 and less than 50,000 population. A NECTA containing a single core urban area with a population of at least 2.5 million may be subdivided to form smaller groupings of cities and towns referred to as NECTA Divisions. The generalized NECTA boundaries in this file are based on those defined by OMB based on the 2010 Census and published in 2013.

Description

The NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (formerly National Geophysical Data Center) receive airborne magnetic survey data from US and non-US agencies. In an effort to provide a central library for digital aeromagnetic data in the public domain, NCEI is continuing to assimilate new digital data from aeromagnetic surveys in the United States. Major contributors to this important data base include the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the University of Texas, and the Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN). The details of these surveys are contained in an automated inventory system Geophysical Data System (GEODAS). The philosophy of exchange of data from the archive for new contributions has stimulated many organizations to transfer their data holdings to the Data Center.

Description

This dataset is the bare earth lidar data for St. Johns County, Florida, acquired in early January and February of 2004. This data was collected to develop comprehensive countywide base mapping and perform other GIS enhancements to support master drainage planning, transportation planning, preliminary engineering and wetland preservation studies. The surveyed area included all of St. Johns County, approximately 610 square miles. Eighty-seven (87) flight lines of high density lidar data (average GSD is 3.3 feet) were obtained at an altitude of 3000 feet AGL. This data set contains only model keypoints (points that are a thinned data set that is intended to remove extraneous data such as trees and points that are deemed redundant to the final bare earth product) that are classified as ground points. As a result, there are a lower number of points than in a full mass point lidar data set; and it is recommended that the data be downloaded as points and used with a TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) or similar algorithm to produce a bare earth surface.

Description

This data set contains data from measurements and analyses of physical and chemical characteristics of the water column. Chemical parameters that may be recorded are salinity, pH and concentration of oxygen, ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, chlorophyll and suspended solids. Physical parameters that may be recorded include temperature, density (sigma-t), transmissivity and current velocity (east-west and north-south components). Cruise and station information may include environmental conditions of the study site at the time of observation. Data are very sparse prior to 1951.

NODC Accession 0112843 includes chemical, discrete sample, physical and profile data collected from PELAGIA in the English Channel, North Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Norwegian Sea and Skagerrak from 2001-08-18 to 2002-05-25 and retrieved during cruise COSTAL_Pelagia_2005. These data include ALKALINITY, AMMONIUM, DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON, DISSOLVED OXYGEN, HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, NITRATE, NITRITE, PHOSPHATE, Potential temperature (theta), SALINITY, SILICATE and WATER TEMPERATURE. The instruments used to collect these data include Alkalinity titrator, CTD, Coulometer for DIC measurement, bottle and pH meter. These data were collected by Helmuth Thomas of Dalhousie University; Institute of Oceanography and Alberto Borges of University of Liege as part of the COSTAL_Pelagia_2005 data set. The Global Coastal Carbon Data Project data includes the bottle (discrete) and surface (underway) carbon-related measurements from coastal research cruises, the data from time series cruises and coastal moorings. The coastal regions data are very important for the understanding of carbon cycle on the continental margins.
