NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette Underway Meteorological Data (delayed ~10 days for quality control) are from the Shipboard Automated Meteorological and Oceanographic System (SAMOS) program. IMPORTANT: ALWAYS USE THE QUALITY FLAG DATA! Each data variable's metadata includes a qcindex attribute which indicates a character number in the flag data. ALWAYS check the flag data for each row of data to see which data is good (flag='Z') and which data isn't. For example, to extract just data where time (qcindex=1), latitude (qcindex=2), longitude (qcindex=3), and airTemperature (qcindex=12) are 'good' data, include this constraint in your ERDDAP query: flag=~"ZZZ........Z.*" in your query. The U.S. National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) operates the Global Argo Data Repository (GADR) as the long-term archive for the International Global Argo Project (for additional information about Argo, see http://www.argo.ucsd.edu/ (last accessed Aug 2007)). Argo data archived by the US NODC on a weekly basis starting the second quarter of FY 2003, may include real-time and/or delayed-mode profiles of ocean temperature and salinity, as well as related conductivity and/or pressure measurements (if any), collected by Argo profiling floats.

MBT data were collected from the USS CONSTANT in support of the Fleet Observations of Oceanographic Data (FLOOD) project. Data were collected by US Navy; Ships of Opportunity from 30 December 1962 to 24 January 1963. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

CRED shallow Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) casts are vertical profiles (max 30 meter depth, downcast only) of temperature, conductivity and pressure. Data are collected at select nearshore locations, both around islands or banks and within lagoons. Data processing was performed using Seabird Instrument's SeaSoft SBE Data Processing Software (http://www.seabird.com/software/SBEDataProcforWindows.htm). Data format is discreet, tabular (formatted, space delimited ASCII) files for each profile, with a full header as provided by SeaSoft. Raw file extension is HEX, processed file extension is CNV. The header contains latitude, longitude and other location information, as well as all data processing steps and settings. All dates and times are UTC. All positions are WGS84 decimal degrees. The Joint Archive for Sea Level (JASL), a collaboration between the University of Hawaii Sea Level Center and the National Oceanographic Data Center (NOAA/NESDIS/NODC) continues to acquire, quality control, manage, and distribute sea level data as initiated by the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere Program, which ended in 1994. The JASL is a Global Sea Level Observing System archive center and is the largest global collection of quality-controlled hourly sea level. The JASL receives hourly data from regional and national sea level networks. The data are inspected and obvious errors such as data spikes and time shifts are corrected. Gaps less than 25 hours are interpolated. Reference level problems are referred back to the originator. If the originators can not resolve the reference level shift,comparisons with neighboring sites or examination of the hourly residuals may warrant an adjustment. Descriptive station information and quality assessments are prepared. The objective is to assemble a scientifically valid, well-documented archive of hourly and daily sea level values in standardized formats. These data are quasi-annually submitted to the World Data Center-SS for Oceanography via NODC, the Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level, and the British Oceanographic Data Centre. This set contains the complete holdings of the JASL for series that have been quality controlled, assessed, and documented. As of November 2013, the holdings consisted of 670 series with 15,657 station-years of quality-assured data. The series are of variable lengths with the greatest concentration between 5 and 30 years, although a few sites have over 70 years.
