Description

The Papaha-naumokua-kea Marine National Monument (NWHI-MNM) was designated by Presidential Proclamation 8031, June 15th 2006. The legal boundaries for the NWHI-MNM are defined within the Federal Register / Vol. 71, No. 122 / Monday, June 26, 2006 / Presidential Documents pages 36454 - 36475. The GIS compatible digital boundary files for the NWHI-MNM are representations of those legal boundaries and are based on the best available data.

Description

Marine bird sighting and other data were collected from helicopter and other platforms in the North Pacific Ocean from 16 June 1975 to 15 August 1976. Data were collected by John Hopkins University (JHU) as part of the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard F033 Marine Bird Sighting, Ship/Aircraft Census format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/. An analog file for this accession is available from NODC user services. The F033 format contains data from field observations of marine birds made along ship or aircraft survey tracks. These data are collected to provide information on population density and distribution. Start and end position, date and elapsed time, speed and course, platform type and observing techniques are reported for each survey. Environmental information may include meteorological and sea surface conditions, distances to the shoreline and shelf break, ice characteristics within and outside each transect and surface debris, including oil slicks. Species data may include age, sex, color, plumage, number of individuals, direction of flight, behavior and food source association. Any number of species may be reported within one observation time span.

Description

This dataset contains a comma-delimited ASCII XYZ text file with easting, northing, and depth in meters values for the bathymetry of an offshore portion of the NPS's Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument, south of St. John, US Virgin Islands. XYZ values are derived from a 10m resolution gridding process.NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in the US Virgin Islands from 2/1/05 to 2/12/05. Data was acquired with a pole-mounted Reson 8101 ER multibeam echosounder (240 kHz) and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS v5.4 software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 20, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. A comma delimited ASCII XYZ file was then exported from the BASE surface. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.

Description

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) contracted with Watershed Sciences, Inc. to collect high resolution topographic LiDAR data for multiple areas within the state of Oregon. The areas for LiDAR collection have been designed as part of a collaborative effort of state, federal, and local agencies in order to meet a wide range of project goals. This LiDAR data set was collected in 11 delivery areas from October 23, 2008 through August 9, 2009. See below for the specific date of collection and total area covered for each delivery. This data set covers 1553 square miles (994,440 square acres) and falls in portions of the following counties in northwestern Oregon: Clatsop, Columbia, Lane, Lincoln, Tillamook, and Washington. This data set consists of bare earth and unclassified points. The average pulse density is 8.61 points per square meter over terrestrial surfaces. In some areas of heavy vegetation or forest cover, there may be relatively few ground points in the LiDAR data. Elevation values for open water surfaces are not valid elevation values because few LiDAR points are returned from water surfaces. LiDAR intensity values were also collected. This LiDAR data set was collected on different dates and organized into 11 deliveries. To determine which delivery or deliveries are in your area of interest, download the Delivery Area graphic at: ftp://coast.noaa.gov/pub/DigitalCoast/lidar1_z/geoid12a/data/575/supplemental/2009_dogami_oregon_lidar_north_coast.jpg The specific date of collection and total area covered for each delivery are listed below. Delivery 1: Acquisition Date: 20090405-20090510 Total Area = 96,383 sq acres Delivery 2: Acquisition Date: 20090416-20090615 Total Area = 115,458 sq acres Delivery 3: Acquisition Date: 20081023-20090615 Total Area = 78,033 sq acres Delivery 4: Acquisition Date: 20081025-20081116 Total Area = 53,279 sq acres Delivery 5: Acquisition Date: 20090426-20090628 Total Area = 74,477 sq acres Delivery 6: Acquisition Date: 20090531-20090623 Total Area = 101,056 sq acres Delivery 7: Acquisition Date: 20090531-20090628 Total Area = 99,438 sq acres Delivery 8: Acquisition Date: 20090520-20090616 Total Area = 71,734 sq acres Delivery 9: Acquisition Date: 20090421-20090716 Total Area = 101,033 sq acres Delivery 10: Acquisition Date: 20090710-20090719 Total Area = 133,920 sq acres Delivery 11: Acquisition Date: 20090714-20090809 Total Area = 69,629 sq acres

Description

XBT data were collected from the KANE in support of the Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS). Data were collected by the US Navy; Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) from 04 February 1977 to 24 February 1977. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.

Description

This global monthly precipitation analysis is called the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) Precipitation Reconstruction (PREC). This analysis consists of two components, the land analysis PREC/L and oceanic analysis PREC/O. The land analysis is defined by interpolation of gauge observations from the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) version 2, and the Climate Prediction Center Climate Anomaly Monitoring System (CAMS) dataset through the Optimal Interpolation (OI) algorithm. The oceanic analysis is defined by Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) reconstruction of historical gauge observation from islands and atolls and land. The output resolutions are 0.5deg, 1.0deg, and 2.5deg latitude/longitude for the PREC/L, and 2.5deg latitude/longitude for PREC/O. The analysis covers time period from 1948 to current and is updated on real time basis. The data set is available at format of ASCII and binary.
