Many different types of papers are presented to Parliament by bodies outside Parliament - some are then published under Parliament's authority. Most are presented because the bodies are required to do so either by law or by a decision of Parliament. Others are presented because the government has decided or has previously undertaken to provide the information to Parliament (these papers are called 'Command Papers'). The following are some of the categories of papers that must be presented to Parliament: * Annual reports of government departments or other bodies and agencies. * Periodic reports of certain activities or programmes (eg, Reports of Her Majesty's Inspector of Prisons). * Reports by the National Audit Office. * Estimates, accounts and other government financial papers such as the Budget. * Reports of inquiries into particular events (e.g., the Hutton Inquiry, the Home Office report on the 7/7 London bombings). Many, but not all, of these papers are published as House of Commons Papers. Use this dataset if * You would like to track papers presented to Parliament.

'Session' is the word used to describe the Parliamentary year. A session begins with the State Opening of Parliament, pre-2012 this usually ran from November to November. From 2012 this occurs in the spring. Sessions run for 12 months as the general election will generally happen on the first Thursday of May every 5 years. The session used to run for 12 months unless there was a general election. If a general election took place, the session increased in length to include the additional months from the new date of the State Opening which took place shortly after the election. Use this dataset to consume Parliamentary start and end of session dates information. This dataset is commonly used as a reference and link to other datasets.

The Lords Attendance Dataset provides a record of the attendance of members of the House of Lords. A member is counted as having attended if they have been present on a given date at a sitting in the House of Lords chamber, at a Grand Committee or Select Committee sitting or if they have been recorded as voting in a division in the main chamber. Select Committees can meet on days when the Chamber is not-sitting and therefore it is possible for an attendance to be recorded on a day that the House is not sitting. Attendances are published on the first day of the calendar month, two months after which they occur (e.g. Attendances in November will be shown from the start of January onwards). Use this dataset if you: * Want to view the level of attendance for specific days * Want to check the attendance of a specific member on a specific day * Want to view who attended a committee on a day * Want to link member details and their attendance programmatically

Publications Log dataset provides a log of certain publications produced by Parliament and posted on the www.parliament.uk website. It provides a record of each instance of a publication type (e.g. the Order Paper) that has been published online by Parliament. The publications are created by a variety of methods, but each will be recorded when they are published by creating an entry on this log. The publications types that are included in this dataset are defined in the Thesaurus dataset (class PBT), and the publications log entries are linked to this. Certain publication types are published “with the authority of the House”. These publications will have an ”HC” or “HL” number. The log resource records a URL for the actual publication. Use this dataset if you: • Want to be alerted to the publication of publication types covered by this dataset * Want to find links to recent publications from Parliament. • Want to find links to older instances of publications (from the start of 2016 onwards).

The E-petitions dataset contains data from the shared UK Government and Parliament e-petitions website at https://petition.parliament.uk . Petitions are created by the public and if it meets the standard for petitions it is published on that website. Members of the public can then electronically sign the petitions. The Petitions Committee in Parliament reviews all petitions we publish. They select petitions of interest to find out more about the issues raised. They have the power to press for action from government or Parliament. If a petition receives at least 10,000 signatures the government will provide a response to the petition. If a petition receives at least 100,000 signatures the petition will be considered for a debate in Parliament. Petitions which reach 100,000 signatures are almost always debated. MPs might consider a petition for a debate before it reaches 100,000 signatures. The dataset contains all published petitions. The short description and the longer text are both available, the name of the person starting the petition is shown as the sponsor. The petition will have a status of opened or closed. Petitions are automatically closed to new signatures after 6 months There may also be a link to a related debate in Parliament and there will be a link to the page for the petition on the petitions website. Use this dataset if you want to * Identify newly raised petitions * Link petitions to debates * Monitor the progress of a petition or group of petitions Note that there also a separate Public Petitions dataset that will be released shortly. These petitions are raised by constituents directly with a Member of Parliament and are an alternative way to raise an issue with the Petitions Committee. Search for "Public Petitions" on the Data.Parliament home page.

Members of the House of Lords are provided by Parliament with IT equipment to support their work. This dataset provides lists of the equipment loaned to Members. * The initial list (resource on the Atom feed) shows the equipment purchased after April 2010 and held on loan by Members on Tuesday 19 July 2016 * The standard provision as at August 2016 is: one laptop or one desktop plus an iPad * Home printers are no longer issued and if a printer has previously been issued for home use it will not be replaced or repaired when it fails. * Some Members have more than this allocation because: * the equipment was issued before the current rules were introduced * or they have just been issued with new equipment and the old equipment has yet to be collected for reuse or secure disposal * some committees work paperless, in which case an iPad is issued to its membership A new list will be added every six months as a new resource on the Atom feed. Use this dataset: * if you are interested in the provision of IT equipment to Members of the House of Lords

The State Maintained Roads dataset is derived from the TopoRoad dataset that is jointly maintained by DEWNR & DPTI. The Common Road Referencing System (CRRS) assigns a unique number to all roads of interest to Department for Planning,Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) (currently or previously maintained) and defines the start, direction and end of the road for linear referencing (i.e. driven distance) purposes. The system defines reference points with known linear distances (known as road running distance). DPTI asset information is recorded in databases referenced using CRRS standards. This data set is for the Roads Maintained by the State or Federal Government.
