In March 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation establishing an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the United States extending its territory 200 nautical miles from the coasts of the United States, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. territories and possessions. In 1984, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Office of Marine Geology began a program to map these areas of the EEZ. The U.S. Pacific Coast was the first EEZ region to be mapped and launched GLORIA (Geological LOng-Range Inclined Asdic) mapping program. The area covered by this survey extended from the Mexican to the Canadian borders and from the continental shelf edge, at about the 400-meter bathymetric contour, to 200 nautical miles from the coast. Survey of the U.S. Pacific West Coast EEZ was completed in four consecutive cruises conducted from late April through mid-August 1984. The collected GLORIA data were processed and digitally mosaicked to produce continuous imagery of the seafloor. A total of 36 digital mosaics of an approximate 2 degree by 2 degree (or smaller) area with a 50-meter pixel resolution were completed for the region.

The Annuity Roll Processing System (ARPS) contains the vast majority of retirement customer transactions for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM). This includes data from all Federal agencies (Executive, Legislative, Judicial branches, U.S. Postal Service, and Intelligence Agencies). ARPS is the system of record for all retirements. Monthly annuity payments are made through ARPS. We make some aggregated data, such as the number of annuitants added to the rolls, publicly available, but most of the data cannot be released because it contains personally identifiable information (PII) and information protected by the Privacy Act. The Enterprise Human Resources Integration-Statistical Data Mart (EHRI-SDM) provides other statistical information on Federal retirements. However, the data is limited to only the Executive branches of the Federal government.

There are significant logistical barriers to entry-level high performance computing (HPC) modeling and simulation (M&S) users. Performing large-scale, massively parallel computations on modern supercomputing platforms is a very challenging task in and of itself. It requires huge amounts of analyst resources to construct datasets, transfer files, build codes, submit and monitor jobs, and analyze and archive results. This workflow requires significant attention to detail, and it is easy to miss steps, set up incorrect file or directory structures for datasets, spend inordinate effort to understand each computing platform and its unique job submission requirements, and decide how and where to archive potentially terabytes of simulation results. Collaboration among engineers is hampered by non-centralized storage of results, permission issues, and the sheer size of simulation result sets. Even for seasoned, veteran HPC users, the complexity of the overall HPC use process can be a barrier to daily use. We propose a system to streamline this workflow, provide audit trails for data used in simulations, code versions used, and storage locations of results, as well as integrating tools for file transfer, job submission, batch visualization, and other tasks that require engineer's time that is better spent considering the simulation itself. Further, the proposed SLMIR application (Simulation Lifecycle Management – IllinoisRocstar) sets up the infrastructure for collecting simulation data across an organization or organizations, so that engineers and scientists may discover information generated by others in their research areas, potentially saving time and money by leveraging previous work and avoiding duplication. The envisioned system targets users of HPC tools in the field, rather than developers writing those tools, since engineers and scientists in manufacturing and engineering industries are heavily invested in the results of using the tools.

Grain size analyses produced by Robert Reid of the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service for the NOAA/BLM Outer Continental Shelf Mid-Atlantic Project, Baltimore Canyon Trough Area. Grain size analyses were originally contributed in the historic NODC 003 format for 113 sea floor samples collected from May 22-27, 1974 by the Mt. Mitchell on cruise BC7401. Data include collecting institution, ship, cruise, sample id, latitude/longitude, date of collection, water depth, sampling device, method of analysis, sample weight, sampled interval, raw weight percentages of sediment, within a given phi range. Some samples also have percentages of total gravel, sand, silt, clay, and statistical measurements such as mean, median, skewness, kurtosis, and standard deviation of grain size. These data are part of the larger NGDC digital grain size database.

<p> Design, build, and test a 5,000 lbf thrust regeneratively cooled combustion chamber at JSC for a low pressure liquid oxygen/methane engine. The engine demonstrates its effectiveness by continuous steady state operation without catastrophic damage to the combustion chamber.</p> <p> This project will advance in three phases:  1)  The addition of a regeneratively cooled test section to an existing pressure fed LOX/Methane engine.  This "partial regen" engine will be hot fire tested and thereby used to validate a multiphase regen cooling model.   2) The development of a tube forming technique to construct a low cost full-size regeneratively cooled combustion chamber.   3)  Using the results of #1 and 2, create a full scale regeneratively cooled combustion chamber (open loop cooling) for an existing 5,000 lbf subcritical liquid oxygen/methane rocket engine with variable chamber heat load capability.   This full scale engine will be hot fire tested to demonstrate performance. </p>

This dataset contains basic data and interpretations developed and compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey's Framework Studies and Assessment of the Gulf Coast Project. The 2010-11 Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS 2010-11) was a study that was part of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) program; program data is available since 1980 at . IPEDS 2010-11 (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/) was a cross-sectional survey designed to collect basic data from all postsecondary institutions in the United States and the other jurisdictions. Key statistics produced from IPEDS 2010-11 allowed the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to describe the size of one of the nation's largest enterprises--postsecondary education-- in terms of students enrolled, degrees and other awards earned, dollars expended, and staff employed. All Title IV institutions were required to respond to IPEDS (see Section 490 of the Higher Education Amendments of 1992 [P.L. 102-325; 20 U.S.C. � 1070 et seq.]). IPEDS allowed other, non-Title IV institutions to participate on a voluntary basis, but only about 200 elected to respond.

The bone loss associated with extended space missions in astronaut represents a serious health threat, both over the flight period and upon returning to gravitational fields. Continuously monitoring bone qualities during prolonged space missions will lead to a better understanding of the progressive adaptation of bone loss in astronauts subject to both microgravity and aging, and the ensuing musculoskeletal complications such as osteoporosis. In this proposal, Boston Applied Technologies Incorporated (BATi), collaborated with University of Florida, proposes a portable and noninvasive ultrasound measurement apparatus for rapid assessment of human bone densities. With our unique approach and algorithm, the proposed device will have greater measurement accuracy and sensitivity than those of other noninvasive techniques. In addition, the self-calibration feature of the instrument will assure the diagnostic methodology to be accurate, fast, and simple.

SSCI is proposing to develop, test and deliver a set of topology control algorithms and software for a formation flying spacecraft that can be used to design and evaluate candidate formation architectures. Properties of these topology control algorithms include: (a) Preserving the connectivity of the underlying state-dependent sensing graph during reconfiguration and re-targeting of the formation; (b) Achieving a balanced interplay between performance and robustness to communication delays; and (c) Using only local information to make local decisions that collectively guarantee global properties such as the network connectivity for formation flying. Phase I effort resulted in the development of a unified framework for the design and analysis of many topology control problems associated with formation flying spacecraft. A novel game-theoretic approach to network topology control was successfully applied to key trajectory design problems such as formation initialization and reconfiguration in the presence of local and global constraints. Phase II effort will deliver a complete set of algorithms and software tools to help the NASA TPF-I team plan and evaluate missions for candidate TPF-I architectures. In order to achieve these objectives, we plan to carry out the following tasks: (i) Further refinements and testing of the game-theoretic approach to state-dependent network synthesis problems and trajectory-following in the absence of centralization, (ii) Development and testing of convex parameterization of path-planning problems for multiple spacecraft formations, (iii) Demonstration of the application of the developed novel methods to TPF-I baseline mission. These algorithms and software will be tested on high fidelity formation flying testbeds at JPL such as FAST or FCT. Professor Mehran Mesabhi of University of Washington will provide technical support under the project.

Using Leica Geosystems ALS50 Laser Systems, 89 flight lines with a nominal point spacing = 1.4 meters (4.59 feet) were collected over Erie County, NY (approximately 1044 square miles). Multiple returns were recorded for each laser pulse along with an intensity value for each return. The data acquisition occurred in missions on April 17, 2008 and April 28, 2008. During the LIDAR campaign, the field crew conducted a GPS field survey to establish final coordinates of the ground base stations for final processing of the base-remote GPS solutions. This is a bare earth classified data set; points are classified as ground or unclassified. Please note that water points are sometimes classified as 'Unclassified' and other times as 'Ground'. LIDAR data is remotely sensed high-resolution elevation data collected by an airborne collection platform. Using a combination of laser range finding, GPS positioning and inertial measurement technologies; LIDAR instruments are able to make highly detailed Digital Elevation Models (DEM) of the earth's terrain, man-made structures and vegetation. This data was collected at a resolution to aid in coastal management decisions including flood plain analysis and mapping.

This part of DS 781 presents data for the bathymetric contours for several seafloor maps of the Offshore of Point Reyes map area, California. The vector data file is included in "Contours_PointReyes.zip," which is accessible from http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/781/OffshorePointReyes/data_catalog_PointReyes.html. 10-m interval contours of the Offshore of Point Reyes map area, California, were generated from bathymetry data collected by California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and by Fugro Pelagos. Mapping was completed between 2007 and 2010, using a combination of 200-kHz and 400-kHz Reson 7125, and 244-kHz Reson 8101 multibeam echosounders, as well as 468-kHz SEA SWATHPlus interferometric system. These mapping missions combined to collect bathymetry from about the 10-m isobath to beyond the 3-nautical-mile limit of California's State Waters. Bathymetric contours at 10-m intervals were generated from a bathymetric surface model. The most continuous contour segments were preserved while smaller segments and isolated island polygons were excluded from the final output. Contours were smoothed via a polynomial approximation with exponential kernel (PAEK) algorithm using a tolerance value of 60 m. The contours were then clipped to the boundary of the map area. These data are not intended for navigational purposes.

The wildlife section of the report discusses wildlife diversity, endangered and threatened species, waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, game mammals, marine mammals, fisheries resources, animal control, marking and bird banding, and disease control. The public uses of the Refuge described in this report include outdoor classrooms, interpretive programs, hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife observation, outdoor recreation, and law enforcement. The equipment and facilities section of the report provides information about new construction, rehabilitation, major maintenance, equipment replacement, communication systems, computer systems, and energy conservation. Cooperative programs, economic uses of the Refuge, and items of interest are provided at the end.
