Terrain data, as defined in FEMA Guidelines and Specifications, Appendix M: Data Capture Standards, describes the digital topographic data that was used to create the elevation data representing the terrain environment of a watershed and/or floodplain. Terrain data requirements allow for flexibility in the types of information provided as sources used to produce final terrain deliverables. The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The file is georeferenced to earth's surface using the UTM projection and coordinate system. The specifications for the horizontal control of DFIRM data files are consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000. This database was developed for the JASPER County DFIRM project in 2008 by CF3R/Baker for FEMA Region 6.

The article, Trends In Complicated Newborn Hospital Stays and Costs, 2002-2009, Implications For the Future, published in Volume 4, Issue 4 of Medicare and Medicaid Research Review, assessed all-payer administrative data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project HCUP Nationwide Inpatient Sample NIS, to examine trends 2002-2009 in complicated newborn hospital stays. Findings indicate that complicated births and hospital discharges within 30 days of birth remained relatively constant, but average costs per discharge increased substantially. Most strikingly, over time, the proportion of complicated births billed to Medicaid increased, while the proportion paid for by private payers decreased. Complications for infants with Medicaid were more likely due to preterm birth-low birth weight and respiratory distress, while complications for those with private insurance were more likely due to jaundice. Policies to prevent common birth complications have the potential to reduce costs for public programs and improve birth outcomes.

A geographic information system focusing on the Jurassic-Cretaceous Cotton Valley Group was developed for the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) 2002 assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and natural gas resources in the Gulf Coast Region. The USGS Energy Resources Science Center has developed map and metadata services to deliver the 2002 assessment results GIS data and services online. The Gulf Coast assessment is based on geologic elements of a total petroleum system (TPS) as described in Dyman and Condon (2005). The estimates of undiscovered oil and gas resources are within assessment units (AUs). The hydrocarbon assessment units include the assessment results as attributes within the AU polygon feature class (in geodatabase and shapefile format). Quarter-mile cells of the land surface that include single or multiple wells were created by the USGS to illustrate the degree of exploration and the type and distribution of production for each assessment unit. This map service shows the structural configuration on the top of the Cotton Valley Group in feet below sea level. The map was produced by calculating the difference between a datum at the land surface (either the kelly bushing elevation or the ground surface elevation) and the reported depth of the Cotton Valley Group. This map service also shows the thickness of the interval from the top of the Cotton Valley Group to the top of the Smackover Formation. Other data that are available in the map documents and services include the TPS and USGS province boundaries.

The Civil Rights Data Collection, 2006 (CRDC 2006) is part of the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) program. CRDC 2006 (http://ocrdata.ed.gov/) is a cross-sectional survey that collects data on key education and civil rights issues in the nation's public schools, which include student enrollment and educational programs and services, disaggregated by race/ethnicity, sex, limited English proficiency, and disability. LEAs submit administrative records about schools in the district. LEAs and BOCES-type regional education centers functioning as LEAs were sampled. Prior to 2011-12, charter schools were primarily sampled if they were part of a LEA, not if they were a separate charter school district. CRDC 2006 achieved an unprecedented 100% response rate for LEAs and a 99.6 % response rate for schools. Key statistics produced from CRDC 2006 can provide information about critical civil rights issues as well as contextual information on the state of civil rights in the nation, including enrollment demographics, advanced placement, discipline, and special education services.

The 1BGMI algorithm uses a non-linear three-point in-flight calibration to derive antenna temperature (Ta) and convert Ta to Tb using GMI antenna pattern corrections. The four-point calibration, which utilizes noise diode measurements, is used to monitor the sensor non-linearty. The noise diode measurements also provide a hot load back-up calibration in case hot load measurements are lost. Details are in the GMI ATBD.The 1BGMI algorithm and software transform Level 0 counts into geolocated and calibrated brightness temperatures (Tb) for 13 GMI channels.
