The Virginia Geographic Information Network (VGIN) contracted with Sanborn to provide LiDAR mapping services for Accomack and Northampton counties on the eastern shore of Virginia in the March of 2010. Utilizing multi-return systems, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data in the form of 3-dimensional positions of a dense set of mass points was collected for approximately 1090 square miles. Of this 1090 sq mile area, 663 sq miles are over land. Collection and delivery of the lidar data were required to meet the USGS LiDAR Guidelines and Base Specifications, version 13 classification scheme. The data available for download from the NOAA Digital Coast are classified as follows: 1 (Unclassified), 2 (Ground), 7 (Low Point/Noise), 9 (Water), and 10 (Ground points in close proximity to breaklines). This project was a cooperative effort funded by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) - Virginia Office, the University of Virginia's Virginia Coast Long-Term Ecological Research Project (VCR/LT ER) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Users should be aware that this data was not required to be collected at low tide, therefore, there are some flightlines that were collected at low tide and adjacent flightlines that were not collected at low tide.

This data set contains geographical boundary information for National Park Service properties, wildlife refuges, and other management areas in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. Vector polygons in this data set represent the management areas. Location-specific type and source information is stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer.This data set comprises a portion of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. This data set is a subset of data acquired from the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD). The NLCD is comprised of Landsat data collected during 2001 that are representative of the land cover conditions present in the Georgia, USA regional study area during the Soil Moisture Experiment of 2003 (SMEX03). The data were exported from NLCD 2001 with Environmental Research Systems Institute (ESRI) ArcMap software and are provided in one ASCII text file. The volume of the data file is approximately 19 megabytes, and the file is available via FTP. These data were collected as part of a validation study for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer - Earth Observing System (AMSR-E). AMSR-E is a mission instrument launched aboard NASA's Aqua Satellite on 04 May 2002. AMSR-E validation studies linked to SMEX are designed to evaluate the accuracy of AMSR-E soil moisture data. Specific validation objectives include assessing and refining soil moisture algorithm performance; verifying soil moisture estimation accuracy; investigating the effects of vegetation, surface temperature, topography, and soil texture on soil moisture accuracy; and determining the regions that are useful for AMSR-E soil moisture measurements.

The Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The DFIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The file is georeferenced to earth's surface using the UTM projection and coordinate system. The specifications for the horizontal control of DFIRM data files are consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000.

These data were created as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office for Coastal Management's efforts to create an online mapping viewer depicting potential sea level rise and its associated impacts on the nation's coastal areas. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea level rise (slr) and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: http://www.coast.noaa.gov/slr These data depict the potential inundation of coastal areas in Hawaii resulting from a projected 1 to 6 feet rise in sea level above current Mean Higher High Water (MHHW) conditions. The process used to produce the data can be described as a modified bathtub approach that attempts to account for both local/regional tidal variability as well as hydrological connectivity. The process uses two source datasets to derive the final inundation rasters and polygons and accompanying low-lying polygons for each iteration of sea level rise: the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the area and a tidal surface model that represents spatial tidal variability. The tidal model is created using The Tidal Constituent and Residual Interpolation (TCARI) methodology to combine harmonic constituents, tidal datums, and residual water level data measured at tide stations into a composite tide curve. This solution is not a NOAA/CO-OPS-generated/recognized tidal-geodetic relationship. The tidal datum values were interpolated from published values using a 2-D mathematical interpolation model that solves for weighting functions that satisfy the Laplacian. This strictly mathematical approach assumes a smooth transition of tidal characteristics and the quality control step entailed comparing the interpolated values with other known values not included in the interpolation model. This derived surface is used in lieu of NAVD88 coverage in the Hawaiian Islands for the purposes of this project. The model used to produce these data does not account for erosion, subsidence, or any future changes in an area's hydrodynamics. It is simply a method to derive data in order to visualize the potential scale, not exact location, of inundation from sea level rise.

These data were collected under a cooperative agreement with the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Coastal and Marine Geology Program, Woods Hole Science Center (WHSC). Initiated in 2003, the primary objective of this program is to develop regional geologic framework information for the management of coastal and marine resources. Accurate data and maps of sea-floor geology are important first steps toward protecting fish habitat, delineating marine resources, and assessing environmental changes due to natural or human impacts. The project is focused on the inshore waters (5-30 m deep) of Massachusetts between the New Hampshire border and Cape Cod Bay. Data collected for the mapping cooperative have been released in a series of USGS Open-File Reports (http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/project-pages/coastal_mass/html/current_map.html). This spatial dataset is from the study area located between Duxbury and Hull Massachusetts, and consists of high-resolution geophysics (bathymetry, backscatter intensity, and seismic reflection) and ground validation (sediment samples, video tracklines and bottom photographs). The data were collected during four separate surveys conducted between 2003 and 2007 (NOAA survey H10993 in 2003, USGS-WHSC survey 06012 in 2006, and USGS-WHSC surveys 07001 and 07003 in 2007) and cover more than 200 square kilometers of the inner continental shelf.

Description

We propose herein to augment current NASA spaceflight dynamics programs with algorithms and software from two domains. First, we propose to use numerical parameter continuation methods to assist in computation of trajectories in complicated dynamical situations. Numerical parameter continuation methods have been used extensively to compute a menagerie of structures in dynamical systems including fixed points, periodic orbits, simple bifurcations (where the structure of the dynamics changes), Hopf bifurcations (where periodic orbits are created), invariant manifolds, hetero/homoclinic connections between invariant manifolds, etc. Perhaps more importantly for the current work, such methods have already proven their worth in flight dynamics problems, especially those having to do with the complicated dynamics near libration points. Second, we propose to use advanced filtering techniques and representations of probability density functions to appropriately compute and manage the uncertainty in the trajectories. While advanced methods for understanding and leveraging the underlying dynamics are clearly necessary for effective mission design, planning, and analysis, we contend that they do not suffice. In particular, they do not, in and of themselves, address the issue of uncertainty. Herein we discuss methods that balance the accuracy of the uncertainty representation against computational tractability, including a discussion of the notorious ``curse of dimensionality'' for problems with large state vectors. We propose approachs that revolve around modifications of algorithms such as ``log homotopy'' particle filters and especially Gaussian sum filters. Finally, we propose to integrate all of the above algorithms into standard NASA software packages GEONS, GIPSY, and GMAT.

Description

Estates are subdivisions of the three major islands in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). The estates have legally defined boundaries and are much smaller in area than the Census Subdistricts (county subdivisions), but do not necessarily nest within these districts. The boundaries of the estates are primarily those of the former agricultural plantations that existed at the time Denmark transferred the islands to the United States in 1917. The names and boundaries of the estates are in common usage by residents and in government administration. The boundaries of the estates are as of January 1, 2010 and were provided to the Census Bureau by the USVI Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Estates can be found in the Sub Minor Civil Division (submcd) shapefile for the 2010 and 2011 TIGER/Line products.

This innovation is a weight-optimized, inflatable structure that incorporates radiation shielding materials into its construction, for use as a habitation module or rover vehicle. An inflatable fabric enclosure can provide better radiation protection than an aluminum structure (which generates harmful secondary radiation). The proposed inflatable structure represents a hybrid restraint system in which a gas-impervious cloth barrier is structurally reinforced using an external grid of cordage. This hybrid design is based upon the premise that materials providing the surface coverage and impermeability necessary for fluid containment are ill-suited to withstand global pressure and mass loads?and vice versa. Segregating material roles enables significant weight reduction while satisfying stringent requirements for strength, dimensional stability, abrasion and impact resistance, and thermal control of the interior volume.

USGS Contract Number: 01CRCN0014 In Spring, 2006 Sanborn was contracted by the USGS to survey aprocimately 1,735 square miles of western Whatcom and Skagit Counties in Washington state. All data was collected during ideal conditions (rivers at or below mean level, leaf off, etc.). For this collect two sensors were used: The Leica ALS-50 (High Relief Collection) and Optech 2050 (High and Low Relief Collection). LiDAR calibrations were performed to determine and therefore eliminate systematic biases that occur between the the two sensors. Once the biases were determined they were modeled out. The Leica ALS-50 produced an average point spacing of 1.4 meters. The Optech 2050 produced an average point spacing of 1.3 meters. All points are classified as Class 2 (Ground) which includes water points and any possibly remaining artifacts. Leica ALS-50 LiDAR Acquisition Paramters: Avg. During 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey and other agencies made approximately 2,500 water-level measurements in the Mojave River and Morongo groundwater basins. These data document recent conditions and, when compared with previous data, changes in groundwater levels. A water-level contour map was drawn using data from about 575 wells, providing coverage for most of the basins. Twenty-eight hydrographs show long-term (1930-2012) water-level conditions throughout the basins, and 9 short-term (1992 to 2012) hydrographs show the effects of recharge and discharge along the Mojave River. In addition, a water-level-change map was compiled to compare 2010 and 2012 water levels throughout the basins (516 wells).
