This data set contains sensitive biological resource data for bats in American Samoa. Vector points in this data set represent bat roosts and caves. Species-specific abundance, seasonality, status, life history, and source information are stored in relational data tables (described below) designed to be used in conjunction with this spatial data layer.This data set comprises a portion of the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) data for American Samoa. ESI data characterize the marine and coastal environments and wildlife by their sensitivity to spilled oil. The ESI data include information for three main components: shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources.

Depth, pressure, salinity, temperature, and other data were collected using meteorological sensors and CTD casts in the Arctic Ocean, Greenland Sea, and North Pacific Ocean. Data were collected from the NOAA Ship KA'IMIMOANA, fishing vessel Sea Watch, and USCG Healy from May 11 to November 28, 2001. Data were submitted by Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) as part of the Atlantic Layer Tracking Experiment (ALTEX) project.

Temperature profile data were collected using XBT and BT casts from the NOAA Ship RESEARCHER and other platforms in the TOGA Area of Pacific Ocean from 28 February 1979 to 27 July 1991. Data were collected by the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) with support from the Equatorial Pacific Ocean Climate Studies (EPOCS) and Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) projects. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles at depths of about 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Cruise information, position, date, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT data file, in which temperature values are recorded at uniform 5m intervals, the XBT Data File contains temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths are at a minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to record the temperature curve to an acceptable degree of accuracy. On output, however, the user may request temperature values either at inflection points or interpolated to uniform depth increments.
