Description

The 2014 cartographic boundary shapefiles are simplified representations of selected geographic areas from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). These boundary files are specifically designed for small-scale thematic mapping. When possible, generalization is performed with the intent to maintain the hierarchical relationships among geographies and to maintain the alignment of geographies within a file set for a given year. Geographic areas may not align with the same areas from another year. Some geographies are available as nation-based files while others are available only as state-based files. Combined Statistical Areas (CSAs) are defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and consist of two or more adjacent Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) that have significant employment interchanges. The CBSAs that combine to create a CSA retain separate identities within the larger CSA. Because CSAs represent groupings of CBSAs, they should not be ranked or compared with individual CBSAs.

Description

Bathythermograph data were collected from the ABSECON within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station B (56305N 05100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 16 August 1966 to 19 September 1966. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

Description

The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) was launched on May 4, 2002, aboard NASA\'s Aqua spacecraft. The National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) provided AMSR-E to NASA as an indispensable part of Aqua\'s global hydrology mission. Over the oceans, AMSR-E is measuring a number of important geophysical parameters, including sea-surface temperature (SST), wind speed, atmospheric water vapor, cloud water, and rain rate. A key feature of AMSR-E is its capability to see through clouds, thereby providing an uninterrupted view of global SST and surface wind fields.

Description

This report provides a hydrogeomorphic HGM evaluationof ecosystem restoration and management options for CapeRomain National Wildlife Refuge CRNWR including therecent boundary expansion encompassing Jeremy Island andthe mainland White and King tracts. CRNWR encompasses66,287 acres and spans 22 miles of the South Carolina coast, and it protects critically important estuarine and islandhabitats used by diverse animal communities including manyspecies of concern birds, turtles, marine fisheries and shellfish, and mammals. CRNWR contains 29,000 acres of Class IWilderness Area and is recognized as one of only five NWRsincluded in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Program. Despiteits exceptional resources, the refuge has been influenced bymany onand offsite developments that have degraded orreduced valuable habitats such as the diversion and reductionof freshwater and sediment inputs to the regional coast, bays, and islands; construction of the Atlantic Intracoastal WaterwayAIWW; coastal and bay development and contamination; andsea level rise. Specific recommendations to address and support restoration and management goals are provided in this report.

Description

Oceanographic station data were collected from the HAMILTON within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station D (4400N 4100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) from 19 August 1972 to 10 September 1972. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Station Data II Output Format (SD2). Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/sd2.html. The SD2 format contains physical-chemical oceanographic data recorded at discrete depth levels. Most of the observations were made using multi-bottle Nansen casts or other types of water samplers. A small amount (about 5 percent) were obtained using electronic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) or STD (salinity-temperature-depth) recorders. The CTD/STD data were reported to NODC at depth levels equivalent to Nansen cast data, however, and have been processed and stored the same as the Nansen data. Cruise information (e.g., ship, country, institution), position, date, and time, and reported for each station. The principal measured parameters and temperature and salinity , but dissolved oxygen, phosphate, total phosphorus, silicate, nitrate, nitrite, and pH may be reported. Meteorological conditions at the time of the cast (e.g., air temperature and pressure, wind, waves) may also be reported, as well as auxiliary data such as water color (Forel-Ule scale), water transparency (Secchi disk depth), and depth to bottom. Values of density (sigma-t) sound velocity, and dynamic depth anomaly are computed from measured parameters. Each station contains the measurements taken at the observed depth levels, but also includes data values interpolated to a set of standard depth levels.

Description

Correlation of flows at pairs of streamgages were evaluated using a Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient to better identify gages that can be used as index gages to estimate daily flow at ungaged stream sites in West Virginia. Correlation maps were developed for each candidate index streamgage using ordinary kriging, and have been compiled as grids. Sets of grids were developed for correlation of daily flows of streamgages on unregulated streams in and near (within 50 miles of) West Virginia that were operated during the 1930-2011 water years for: (1) complete water years for the entire period of record (1930-2011), (2) October-December for the entire period of record, (3) January-March for the entire period of record, (4) April-June for the entire period of record, (5) July-September for the entire period of record, (6) complete water years for 1963-1969, (7) complete water years for 1970-1979, and (8) complete water years for 1992-2011. Details of analytical approach, results, discussion, and limitations are contained in U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2014-5061.at http://pubs.usgs.gov/sir/2014/5061/

Description

This dataset contains a comma-delimited ASCII XYZ text file with easting, northing, and depth in meters values for the bathymetry of Bajo De Cico, Puerto Rico. XYZ values are derived from a 5 m resolution gridding process. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in Puerto Rico from 4/14/07 to 4/24/07. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 (95 kHz) multibeam echosounder. It was processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 19 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE surface based on swath angle. An ASCII XYZ file was exported from the BASE surface and opened in ESRI ArcMap 9.x using an XYZ to raster tool. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.
