This project examines the factors influencing fish populations including habitat, harvest, hatcheries, hydropower system operations, and climate change. It seeks to estimate impacts of these factors on Wenatchee River basin spring Chinook salmon through the use of the Shiraz life cycle model parameterized for this fish population. An evaluation of a suite of habitat restoration actions will be conducted, a reparameterized model to incorporate supplementation effects will estimate the impacts on wild fish from hatchery operations, and the influence of climate change as estimated from several bracketing Global Climate Models (and their basin impacts determined via DHSVM modeling) will be examined. The Shiraz and climate modeling work is led by Dr. Jon Honea at Emerson College (Boston, MA), an external collaborator who began this work in a post-doctoral position at the NWFSC. Model

Primary production, temperature, meteorological, and other data were collected in the North Atlantic, coastal North Atlantic, and other locations from 1931 to 1997. Data were collected from the ATLANTIS I from 1931 to 1963 and the ATLANTIS II from 1963 to 1997. Data include profiles of temperature, salinity, pH, and rates of primary production. Data also include concentration profiles of oxygen, particulate organic carbon, phosphate, total phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, silicate, ammonia, and chlorophyll a. Data were submitted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) and are in a comma separated value (.csv) format.

Using morphometric characteristics of modern salmonid (Oncorhynchus spp.) vertebrae, we have developed classification models to identify salmonid vertebrae to the species level with relatively low error rates. This is a study to validate the performance of our classification models on ancient salmonid specimens using analysis of ancient DNA. We have putatively identified a sample of ancient (ca. 1000 to 2900 ybp) vertebrae (from the Wenatchee River basin) to species with our models. Using molecular markers to identify the ancient vertebrae to species, we will be able to evaluate the performance of our models that use vertebral morphology for species identification. If identification methods that are based on vertebral morphology perform successfully, we will have a rapid, low cost, nondestructive method to identify ancient salmonid vertebrae. If applied to midden sites throughout the Columbia River basin, and potentially to other river systems draining into the Pacific Ocean, we will improve our understanding of historical anadromous salmonid occupancy and have a more complete picture of historical population and ESU structure. Additionally, the results of this work have the potential to make a significant contribution to inland and coastal anthropological/archaeological investigations. Temperature profiles were collected from XBT casts from the MARINE EVANGELINE and other platforms from 07 November 1978 to 24 November 1978. Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as part of the Marine Resources Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction (MARMAP) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points (''''inflection points'''') required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. Special instruments permitted measurements to be obtained to 1830 m.

The accession contains data gathered over a period of nine years by various agencies from the US, Britain and Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). Data was collected between July 2, 1969 and March 2,1978. Multiple German ships such as ANTON DOHRN, GAUSS, FRIEDRICH HEINCKE, WALTER KOERTE, METEOR, VICTOR HENSEN and unknown platforms were used to collect the data. Water depth and other data were collected using a number of sampling devices such as bottle, BathyThermograph (BT), Mechanical BathyThermograph (MBT), meteorological sensors, secchi diski and eXpendable Bathy Thermograph (XBT). XBT data collected by R/V METEOR between March 3-7, 1977 is included.

This georeferenced RGB image represents 3 meter resolution bathymetry of Abrir La Sierra Bank, Puerto Rico. This image is also vertically exaggerated by a factor of 1, and sun illuminated where the azimuth = 45 degrees and angle = 40 degrees. NOAA's NOS/NCCOS/CCMA Biogeography Team, in collaboration with NOAA vessel Nancy Foster and territory, federal, and private sector partners, acquired multibeam bathymetry data in Puerto Rico from 4/14/07 to 4/24/07. Data was acquired with a hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad EM 1002 multibeam echosounder (95 kHz) and a Reson 8124 multibeam echosounder and processed by a NOAA contractor using CARIS HIPS software. Data has all correctors applied (attitude, sound velocity) and has been reduced to mean lower low water (MLLW) using final approved tides and zoning from NOAA COOPS. Data is in UTM zone 19 north, datum NAD83. The processed CARIS data was used to generate a CARIS BASE image surface based on swath angle. The project was conducted to meet IHO Order 1 and 2 accuracy standards, dependant on the project area and depth. All users should individually evaluate the suitability of this data according to their own needs and standards.
